This was our third time staying at Emerald Island Resort over the last few years, each time at different homes, with our four children. While this home is beautifully furnished, and the owner obviously took great pride in decorating it initially, the maintenance (through Tropical Villas Management Company) of the home has been poor. We arrived to a home that had not been well cleaned and had large cobwebs in the front entrance, dirty fingerprints over the entire patio sliding door and around door handles in the home, hair on the floors of the bathroom and showers, a linen closet with towels all in disarray, an ice cube maker that was not working, large dust bunnies around the floors of the garage, no top sheets in any of the bunk beds, and caked-on, old food on the kitchen table. There are also two large areas in the front entrance and the kitchen that have broken tiles on the floor that have been crudely patched instead of being replaced.
We took an hour upon arrival cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen ourselves properly to a hygienic standard and called the contact person, Angela, with the management company to request another, more thorough clean of the home the next day. Although it was apparent that more cleaning had been done the following day while we were out, it still had not been cleaned thoroughly, particularly the floors and the bathrooms.
Although our children enjoyed the swimming pool, and we enjoyed the beautiful, tranquil forest background, it should be noted that this particular swimming pool at this home is on the small side compared to the other homes in the community. The pool area has a lot of furniture that is getting rusty, and has obviously not been cleaned for many months. There is also a lot of pool toys that are lying around that it is presumed various guests have left behind, and have not been cleaned up and disposed of. Because of this, the pool area is very cluttered, and it is difficult to move about.
We had problems with the hot tub working properly and again, we called Angela during our week's stay. She came in to look at while we were out and the following day we came outside to a hot tub that was completely empty and without water!
While we appreciate that there may be quick turn arounds between guests staying at this and other homes at Emerald Island Resort, there must be time put aside for proper upkeep, cleaning, and regular maintenance in order for every guest in the home to enjoy their stay.
