Quaint Cottage on the Sandy Shores of Lake Michigan

Our little cottage fondly named Bullwinkle Beach Cottage, is nestled in Ogontz Bay in Big Bay De Noc on Lake Michigan. We are located only 5 minutes from the quiet, historic village of Nahma. Our beautiful beach sports picturesque views of the Garden Peninsula as well as small islands outside of the Bay. Our Cottage location puts you only a few miles from the infamous Nahma Inn Restaurant pub and Inn, and 5 miles from the second oldest golf course in Delta County, Nahma golf course. Nahma Golf course is a 9 hold 36 par Golf Course on the shores of Big Bay De Noc. Our location also locks you into an era best described as the good ole days. Locals are relaxed and taken aback, quick to wave and welcome.

This quaint little cottage is rustic in flair but very clean and cozy with new linens and bedding. Plenty of space in our yard for kids to play, and for adults to "get away" from the noise of everyday life. There are 2 bedrooms with queen size beds and although we can sleep 4 people in our cottage, there is also a pull-out sofa available if you have a couple extra along for your trip. This simple cottage will give you the true up north, in the woods experience.

For your adventures while visiting the beautiful Upper Peninsula, nearby we have the historic Fayette state park, a restored smelting village from the 19th century that located on the bluffs of the Garden Peninsula. Kitchitikipi is Michigan's largest natural fresh water spring located near Manistique. This is a must see if you are in the area, and is referred by many as the mirror of Heaven. If you head North for about a 45-minute drive you will reach Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Here you will find many adventures whether you hike, kayak, or boat, to see the natural beauty of Upper Michigan. ATV Trail is only a few miles away as well for you off road adventurers.

4 day respite from hotels

enjoyed the quiet, the comfy beds, and our 8 lb dog loved smelling all the green growing things outside.

The best part of this rental is the property is sits on. The bay is absolutely gorgeous and I loved catching the sunsets on the beach. The house itself is dated, nothing wrong with that, but be warned that if you are staying there peak summer and the nights are hot be prepared. Luckily mid August it was great sleeping weather. Another plus is that it's only 50 mins north up the nearby road to pictured rocks. We made two trips up there as one of the days got rained out. Absolutely gorgeous area, Michigan overall, imo is gorgeous.

Nice rustic cabin

This was a nice rustic cabin with the basics. It was not as secluded or private as I like, but it was quiet and a nice area.

Quaint, cozy older cabin---well equipped and pleasant. There are some minor improvements/repairs that could be addressed. Host was very responsive to texts. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Property manager was good from booking to check in. However pics don’t match actual listing. this is more for a group of guys on a hunting or fishing trip. we were greeted with a huge swarm of flies in kitchen and all over house. Yes we know it is up north, but little excessive. Plus spider webs in All corners from shower to bed rooms. Went to get a dish in cupboard to put water melon on and they were covered in sut or dirt. Lot of stuff in the place was broken and torn. Wouldn’t hurt to use a little tender loving care. Broken accordion doors, no darts for dart board, swing in back is broken, Went to use grill and so much grease on it would been easier to use fire pit. That being said place was good location. fire pit was nice.

Weekend getaway

Stayed for 3 nights. Cute, quiet cabin in the woods. Super comfy beds, nice place to stay, sunsets at the beach were beautiful. I highly recommended bring lots of bug spray but you are in the woods so its not suprising. Definitely had the cute cabin upnorth feel. Cabin was everything we needed and wanted.

Nice place to stay. I like the short walk down to the beach. The mosquitoes were really bad but made the most of it. The outdoor furniture could of been cleaned off better.

Beach was easy to walk to, but could not swim in the water as it was sand far out, and then very shallow. We did enjoy walking in the water, and our dog loved trying to look for fish.We did not hear from the manager about the code to get in until we called-- we were an hour away and the reception was bad, so it was a bit stressful. It would be nice to get the code a day before we left, so we wouldn't need to rely on spotty reception as we were on the way. The place was older and had clean sheets and towels, but could have been swept/dusted more. It says it is pet friendly, but then the check in details we received right before arriving stated that no dogs were allowed on beds/furniture. That isn't completely "pet friendly", since most people I know do allow this, and if you are leaving the cabin for dinner, then how do you know if your dog goes on the couch or not? We had a few blankets in the car that we brought in just in case. The place was further away from most dining options/gas stations (at least 20 minutes), but we did see lots of beautiful nature.

The beach and Nahma, has it all!

Hillary was fantastic to work with. Cabin was as advertised. Walked down to the beach (which was under snow) and stood by the water drinking coffee. Ran into Nahma for dinner at The Nahma Inn - great food and people. Great people to work with, great location and the lake too. Doesn't get much better.

Needs Some Serious TLC

The beach is nice and perfect for small children or dogs, but not for swimming, as it stays shallow about a mile out. The house was clean inside, but the general neglect of upkeep made for an uncomfortable stay.

Had a good time

Other reviews have mentioned mosquitos, bring bug spray and they are not an issue! We only needed it when we were at the beach for sunset. The walk to the beach was comfortable (no long steep stairs). Beach was quiet and private, our kids/grandchild loved it! Kitchen-iti-Kipi and Pictured rock was gorgeous and we enjoyed walking Manistique. We found people in the area to be friendly and nice. Cabin was clean and the beds were comfortable, had everything we needed.

Beauty on the bay

Lovely spot on the bay. Saw many eagles! Small cozy home to stay in the UP if you are looking for a pet friendly place. I will say pretty much plan on zero service - internet 1 bar when you were lucky (my son trying to complete online homework!) But if you have nothing urgent, unplug and enjoy

Sisters Weekend

Overall it was a great stay. We thought the inside of the cabin was actually cuter in person. It was a little disappointing how close the neighbors were considering the remoteness of the property but it was fine. Our 2 dogs LOVED playing in the shallow bay. There were some broken items (outdoor chair, shower door, missing towel bar, etc.) but nothing we couldn't maneuver around. Sent a list of these items to the property manager so they could be repaired for the next guests. Beds were very comfortable. Smart TV was a plus! Very quiet setting, beautiful tall oak trees, tons of deer tracks down by the water, great hiking nearby.

Beautiful area and cute cottage!

We had a great stay! With the fires in Canada and there being a red flag fire ban (we found that out after the fact, thanks to the neighbor who came by and kindly let us know) we couldn't spend much time outside around the fire pit or at the lake. The mosquitos were very bad during our stay and the outside furniture and grill were covered in dead mosquitos and spider webs. We utilized the kitchen instead. Which had everything we could need. We spent most of our time inside the cottage and in Rapid River at the farmers market and shopping around. This property is pet friendly and we were able to bring our two kitties along with us! Our teen is becoming a senior this year and this was a nice place to spend together as a family.

Could be better

Cute little house with a nice layout. Unfortunately there are problems, most of them easily fixed. There is clearly a water leak in the kitchen ceiling, with mold. My allergies were bad the entire stay. The “doors” to the bedrooms were flimsy accordions that don’t close all the way. Without proper barriers between rooms, it’s hard to be on different sleep cycles. No darts for the dart board. The wood burner in the living room has a plastic log in it and doesn’t appear to be functional. The fire pit out back is great and there is firewood readily available nearby. The views of the bay are beautiful, great sunsets! There are nice hiking trails and cute towns in the area. Smart TV came in handy for a rainy evening.

A strong mildew smell upon entering the home. No working electricity in the front bedroom. A broken sliding door in the second bedroom, completely split in two, offering no privacy. Multiple other broken or damaged items throughout the house.As we settled in, additional problems became apparent: A broken shower door and no working electrical outlets in either bedroom.Torn and missing window screens, making it impossible to open windows without letting in bugs. Poor overall cleanliness: dusty surfaces, dead bugs, cobwebs, and visible hair and grime in the bathroom. Photos from the listing did not match the actual condition of the property. Perhaps most concerning, one of our children stepped on a rusty staple protruding from the floor, which we documented in pictures and reported. The host responded by denying carpet was ever present, yet multiple staples remain in the flooring—clearly leftover from carpet removal. The advertised living room furniture was not in the home, and what was provided was stained and dirty. These issues go far beyond minor inconveniences and reflect neglect in both maintenance and guest safety. The listing was misleading, and the actual conditions fell well below reasonable expectations for a rental property. The list goes on but I only have so much space to list everything. A lot of potential but not enough care from the property owner.

Not one of the pictures in the listing are true or accurate. That private beach that you think you’ll be enjoying doesn’t exist. The water is gone you have to walk thousand feet just to get to the new shoreline. The water receded (after researching) years ago. So that trex to the new “shoreline” is over smelly, slimy organic matter that use to be trapped beneath the water you think your paying to experience. Once your gut starts to recover from the blow of your private paradise being ripped from your plans prepare yourself for what lies ahead… In the listing you see a nice cozy cottage with outdoor decor and rugs but once in the cottage a cold dusty barren wood floor is what greets you. If your like us and you want to relax on those nice grey clean modern couches in the listing think again. Those nice clean couches doesn’t exist your reality is two old dusty grimy wore out couches that look like dogs or bears slept on for the past thirty years….oh and that pull out sofa also doesn’t exist. Well by now you may want to try and take your mind off all the disappointment and turn on that smart tv in the listing maybe to occcupie the kids while you unpack or think of a way to turn this thousand dollar lemon into lemonade…..well think again! No service on their modem and no response when you message the host for help. Not to mention there is no cell service within twenty minutes of the property (and that’s if you’re lucky). Please do not waste your money absolutely scam!!!
