Alas, today is our last day at Villa Cala. I got up at 4 am to enjoy the full morning on the porch watching the day break over the calm seas. This place is truly beautiful - the villa, the resort, the wildlife, the people and the area. We have had a wonderful time.
Villa Cala is right on the beach. There is nothing between me and the water except some beautiful flowing trees and palm trees. The villa is surrounded by an amazing array of flowering bushes and topical plants. I've seen pelicans, parrots, sea hawks, humming birds, bats, squirrels, howler monkeys and an almost tame raccoon every day. It is fun trying to locate the monkey tribe because they move around a lot. You can hear them but they are sometimes hard to spot. Today they are right next door.
Bahia Pez Vela is probably the nicest place to stay in the Coco area. The grounds are adorned with tropical trees, plants, flowering bushes everywhere and they keep them watered. The grounds are immaculate. The resort is at the end of a paved road and sits alone in a steep valley with its own private beach. There is zero traffic noise. The predominant sounds are the gentle waves breaking on the beach, birds chirping and the occasional monkey howl.
Coco is a short (10 minute) drive away and you can find everything there that you would want in a beach town. The good news is that you can easily come and go but you don't have to stay there.
The villa itself is perfectly laid out for a beach vacation. The comfortable bedrooms are all on the second floor and each has its own AC unit. The spacious bottom floor is the comfortable living area which opens up to the huge porch. The unit is well furnished and equipped. We spent most of our time on the porch watching the sea and enjoying nature. Half of the porch is shaded which is handy at mid-day. The porch furniture is very comfortable and perfect for the setting. There is also an outdoor showing for washing off the sea and sand when coming back from the beach.
I'm a scuba diver and the diving in the area is the best Pacific Coast diving I have done. The snorkeling right off the beach is excellent. This was a primary factor for us selecting this area and unit. I was not disappointed. The water is clear and there are loads of colorful fish and etc. living in the rock outcroppings on each end of the beach.
If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet and relaxing place to enjoy God's creation, this is the place. We hope to return soon.
