Coastal life meets tropical paradise at this gem of a home in Cardiff by the Sea (Encinitas) - a quaint beach town in San Diego - central to everywhere you want to be. If you have kids (or are a kid!) then Legoland, SeaWorld, Birch Aquarium, San Diego Zoo, Wildlife Safari Park, Balboa Park, Del Mar Fairgrounds are all a short drive away. If you want a hipster, romantic get-away, you can just walk down the hill to the beach, trendy restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, surfing, sunbathing, people-watching, and just unplugging.

This sophisticated airy Mediterranean style home is decked out with chic contemporary furniture and attention to every detail. From luxurious cotton bedsheets, feather-down pillows, large jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom, central AC, chef’s kitchen, Nespresso machine with pods, BBQ, exotic Japanese Koi pond, beach supplies (boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella, beach mats, igloos) to children’s entertainment (chalkboard wall, bunk bed (twin on top and full below), games, kids tent, sand toys, DisneyPlus). Plenty of zen workspace if you need to get a little work done from home - a desk in a quiet bedroom or another looking out into the garden. For those who want to just stay home and socialize and unwind, you will truly enjoy the private luscious tropical backyard with water fountains and a fire pit. The ocean air landscape boasts fresh fruit trees - orange varieties to quench your thirst, plums, guavas, meyer lemons, loquats just depending on the season. There’s indoor-outdoor living for sitting or dining to truly wrap yourself in the Southern California experience. This is a great home for any reunion, be it family or multi-family vacation, girls’ spa weekend, boys’ surf trip get-away (there’s even an outdoor backyard shower), or if you just want to spread out. There are 5 bedrooms - a two-bedroom open connected master suite plus three additional separate bedrooms (additional aerobed available upon request), 4 full bathrooms, indoor/outdoor dining, indoor/outdoor living spaces, bonus game room overlooking the koi pond, full laundry room (with a laundry chute). Private gated home with a large driveway - ample parking and secure for the kids. Nice local City parks with play structures / fields / huge skate park / tennis courts / pickle ball. Host is available to help in any way from recommendations to concerns making this a truly unique and personal experience. Personal chef available upon request for additional charge.

This is a beautiful home. We stayed here in August 2026 for a reunion with my sister, her kids and my kids. Everything was impeccably clean, nicely decorated, and the home was spacious. The back patio garden was lovely. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful and spacious home in a prime coastal area. The home was perfect for a large group offering several gathering areas throughout the home and outside patios — as well as a lush secluded garden near the koi pond. The kitchen was well-equipped with gourmet appliances, ample dishware/cookware and large counter spaces to accommodate several people working in the kitchen at the same time. When we arrived the home was welcoming and immaculate; the host was always quick to respond to inquiries. Highly recommended!

This was a terrific spot to host a family reunion with lots of room for smaller and larger groups to gather both indoors and outdoors. With a garage to park 2 cars and a good-sized driveway there was room to accommodate guests' cars as well. The property is clean, well appointed, very comfortable and inviting -- all noted by our family members who joined us. The host is very responsive and was committed to helping us enjoy our stay.As the listing indicates (Wheelchair Inaccessible), day guests need to be able to climb a few stairs to access the first floor bathroom and overnight guests need to be able to climb a full flight of stairs to access the bedrooms which are all on the second floor.

Enjoyed staying here gathering our family together. Host was wonderful with quick communication. We cooked and utilized the kitchen everyday. Would have liked a few more small kitchen appliances, but the Nespresso machine was a great plus! Rooms and bathrooms nicely appointed. The garage space was also greatly appreciated.

We were a group of 7 old friends on reunion getaway. This home was so wonderful in many ways. Aesthetically, it's beautifully decorated everywhere you look, with seriously gorgeous and high end rugs on gleaming hardwood floors, interesting art, comfy beds with great linens. It is very family ready, with a fun game room, which was our favorite hang-out in the morning light, with its large windows looking out on lush foliage around the koi pond. Too busy talking, we never turned on any of the several large flat-screen TVs, but they are there! In August, it was quite warm and humid, but so near the beach, the temperature was balmy in the evening for a drink at the backyard table. We really appreciated the beach gear in the garage for our day at Cardiff State Beach, chairs, umbrella, and plenty of beach towels in the laundry room cabinet. If you're driving to Cardiff, bring your own condiments if you plan to cook in the gourmet kitchen, or pick them up down the hill at the nearby Seaside Market, a fabulous place to buy the fixings for meals in. For dining out, we found numerous good places, Mon Cherie and Cocina in Encinitas, Pacific Coast Grill at the beach, and Besta Wan for pizza, walking distance, but too steep a hike back for us :) This home is at the tippy-top of the hill above I-5, but you don't really hear the freeway. Can't say enough nice things about this great house and the location. We plan to return for future reunions!

Hello my name is Sonia and I want to be the first to welcome you to our beautiful home! I am the homeowner and lived in this house for over ten years so I can fully appreciate and share the beauty and experience of staying here. Moving out, it gave me great solace that as a VRBO home this place can now offer memorable experiences and joy to so many others. The sophistication, the attention to detail, my crazy OCD about everything being super clean, and loving to create a hip vibe are all captured in this vacation home for you to enjoy.

I have 3 wonderful daughters (touch wood) and a loving husband. Our favorite memories are to walk down the hill, get a sandwich and other picnic items from Seaside Market, maybe a couple of doughnuts from VG Donuts, sometimes a coffee from Starbucks or Zumbar and head down to the beach. Cardiff has such a carefree feeling. You can shake off your worries and just be consumed by the beach culture and natural surroundings. During Covid, we would enjoy going for an after dinner walk locally at San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center which connects to Solana Beach and meets up with the Kook Statue back up Chesterfield and straight to the house. Other great walks include the walking path on San Elijo Drive or a short drive to Annie's Canyon. AllTrails even has so many great trails right outside our front door. Just recently, they built a great bike trail that is conveniently located from our home and passes the lagoon with breath-taking views. You can rent a bike down the street, enjoy a bike ride, and pick up some lunch along the way in one of the many restaurants or shops.

There are other great activities including downtown Encinitas - a couple mile drive with very cool shopping, massage spas, yoga studios, restaurants, bars. If you want a great souvenir, check out Bliss 101 on Highway 101 - you're sure to find treasures to take back home with you.

We looked at so many homes before we finally found the one that "felt like home." Our older daughter was 2 and baby #2 was on her way in a few months - we couldn't imagine living in our apartment with two kids worried about noise levels and privacy. We wanted something unique - not a cookie-cutter track home (not that anything is wrong with that - my parents live in a cute community that we love built by KB Homes). But we were looking for something with character in a cool place. We were not ready to sign-off to suburbia quite yet. Our wish list included being close to the ocean - so you could feel the ocean air and have that coastal feel. Having lived in hip places like Back Bay in Boston and the Upper East Side in Manhattan, we loved the option to walk down to a cool restaurant or coffee shop. Then we had to think of schools and where we wanted to raise our growing family - we wanted green space, sand, ocean, parks, local library and recreation center. And most importantly, we wanted a quiet safe place to call our own. The open floor plan, the lush gardens, koi pond, ability to enjoy a Southern California indoor-outdoor living was perfect! This home in Cardiff checked all our boxes and even some that we had not even thought about. The property is so versatile - it can be kid-friendly, family friendly, but has a young professional vibe to it as well. Truly a great vacation spot for location and quality of accommodations.

When I first saw this home, I fell in love with the Mediterranean architecture with Romeo and Juliet balconies and the open floor plan with indoor arches. The fountains outside and the koi pond were unbelievable to me considering this house is in a beach town. Since purchasing the home, we put heart and soul into it perfecting the landscape, adding a bonus room downstairs, and a connected bedroom upstairs. The paint colors literally took hours to decide upon with our fashionista Hollywood interior designer. Most of the furniture is custom. By custom, I mean a ton of research, and then with graph paper and pencil in hand, and a tape measure making drawing after drawing and then finding a manufacturing source in LA to make my dreams on paper come to reality. The dining table was a fun adventure - we searched throughout So Cal before we fabricated the slab in Los Angeles and custom designed the iron legs with their own artistic flare that speak to the arches of the dining room walls. Then the organic grass wallpaper on the ceiling and the raw crystal chandelier adds a subdued hint of elegance to the room tying it all together. We lived in this house for over a decade so you will see international personal touches everywhere - no costs were cut and it is not for mass production - all the charm, detail, and ultimate luxury intertwined to give it unparalleled beauty.
