Welcome to Sugartoad Cottage, the closest whole-house rental to downtown Mathews Main Street. This newly renovated cottage is your home base for exploring everything small town VA has to offer! 
This trendy 100 year old home is geared for couples or solo travelers. Stay just steps away from 12 restaurants (all under 1 mile and walkable), numerous shops, art galleries, museums, farmers markets, library & book store, visitor center, kayak landing, grocery store and seasonal events! 
The cottage:
Tucked away near a quiet historic district in downtown Mathews, this newly renovated rental is your home base for exploring everything small town Mathews has to offer.  The property includes a Primary bed with a king sized mattress, spacious bathroom with brand new washer/dryer, shower and appliances. Spacious living areas including a living room with a 55" smart TV, with complimentary Hulu Live TV and Netflix. A dining room for four, and kitchen fully equipped with brand new appliances, retro fridge, large sink, oven and stove, coffee bar, and basic necessities. 
The property:
The spacious outside living area includes a back deck patio with a picnic table, Solo smokeless stove and fire pit area, yard games, edison bulb lighting and privacy fencing. Outdoor shower (coming this summer). The cottage is most known for its inviting front porch with black rocking chairs, string lights, and tropical plants perfect for morning coffee or curling up with a book. Enjoying fee liking like you're in town, but with more privacy, and views of a historic district, mural and lite foot traffic to the book store open across the street on Saturdays.

Details to Note
We are located on a quiet commercial side street right off Main Street. Traffic noise is a minimum except for occasional small downtown noises.  A privacy fence blocks the property from a grocery store but still gives you easy access to grab some quick groceries. There is light construction during the weekdays taking place on Maple Avenue during 2023 but disturbance has been minimal to our guests.

Interactions with Guests
Emily and Will have been renovating this neglected and adorable cottage over the past year and a half and we are thrilled to finally be your hosts. We tried to create a young and funky but still luxurious space for you to experience small town Mathews in the middle of all the activity. We are available to answer any questions, make recommendations, and can let you know where to find live music while you stay with us. We also provide you a handy guest book and our phone numbers when you arrive.

During hot and dry months we may ask your permission to quickly come water plants to ensure they stay alive if the temperatures are high . We will try to limit this and will always contact you first!
