"Downing Cottage"
2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom (tub/shower), 1 Queen, 2 Twin beds. Wireless high-speed internet, smart TV , DVD player, microwave, dishwasher, free standing gas log fireplace (main heat source), gas BBQ on rear patio, carport, no garage. This cozy one level cottage offers a tranquil environment in the pine trees, walking distance to the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve with an abundance of native birds including turkeys and grazing deer. There are two patios, one in front, and one in back of the fully enclosed yard. Both are sunny places to lounge with your best friend at your feet. Pick oranges from the front yard tree and enjoy fresh squeezed orange juice with your breakfast. There is a gas fire pit for your enjoyment on a cool, Cambria evening…or even daytime! When you enter the house, you are in the main living area. Both bedrooms are on the left, the bathroom is straight ahead. The bathroom can be accessed via a door from the living area, or the master bedroom. The nicely updated kitchen is ahead and slightly to the right with a door to the back patio. The dining room is to the right of the kitchen, with French doors opening on to the back patio. The TV room is to the right of the dining room and can also be accessed from the front patio. This is a dog friendly home. Please be aware that cell phone coverage is very spotty in this area. If you need some downtime, peace and quiet, a pretty landscape, escape the city, leave traffic jams behind, turn off your devices, and come to Downing Cottage!

Cambria Cottage

We were here for a short vacation in Cambria and environs. Check-in was easy (and included a free bottle of wine). The house is immaculate with a great layout and everything needed to cook meals, which we did most mornings and evenings. The neighborhood is quiet and green and close to the Fiscalini Ranch Reserve for nice walks on the ocean bluffs and only a few minutes' drive to the conveniences of town. We had a dog with us and the fenced-in patio surrounding the house made it easy for her to come in and out as she pleased. Very relaxing stay.

We did a bit of cooking and everything we needed was supplied. The cottage was clean and ready for our visit. The entire town of Cambria is so dog friendly we were even able to bring them into the shops. The shop owners spoiled them with treats.We met so many lovely folks both visitors and locals. We enjoyed walks at Fiscalini Ranch , Moonstone Beach, and the elephant seal viewing area.We took a trip down to Morrow Bay and Paso Robles. Didn’t visit many restaurants because we cooked.The guest beds could use an upgrade, but overall a wonderful trip. We will definitely visit again.

This lovely small home is nestled among trees in a very quiet neighborhood just a few minutes drive from the Cambria town center with its nice selection of high quality restaurants and charm. The sloping lot provides nice privacy when sitting outside either in front or behind. The kitchen had everything you could ever need to cook and the extra TV room was large and comfortable. We used this lovely home as a base for visiting Hearst Castle to the north and the lovely towns of Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo to the south--easy drives. Definitely will come again to take another tour of Hearst Castle and explore the area more!

Reviewer Comments: When we used the stove or oven there was a strong smell of gas in the cottage. Tap water was terrible, we didn’t initially see the Brita filter system. Water made tea undrinkable. Locking doors was difficult. Kitchen faucet base is not fastened down and spins around. Cottage is not as pet friendly as we expected. if dogs won’t potty on bricks or in small planted area by the shed, there’s no place for them to go. Streets are not great for walking dogs either.

Positively Perfect Little House

A wonderful place to get away in a lovely town. This home in a very quiet neighborhood is beautifully appointed with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The well stocked kitchen was easy to navigate with quality equipment and dish ware. The house was impeccably clean with gleaming windows, double pane windows with nice window coverings and a spotless bathroom with plenty of hot water and towels. The yard is small but securely fenced with lovely plantings and stone work and seating options in the front and back to relax outdoors which made hanging out with our dog stress free. This was by far one of the nicest coastal rentals we have stayed at. Cambria is indeed a dog friendly town, we can’t wait to come back. I gave four stars for communication. We did not receive any communication before our arrival. I called the office on our drive over, Heidi was very responsive and the house was ready for us. When we stopped by the office for keys we were also given a nice bottle of wine and a toy for our pooch, which was a nice touch. So many places to hike, shop, eat and hang out with your fur baby. A great experience!

A Magical Cottage In Paradise

I especially appreciated having the fenced in yard for my dog to run and explore. The owners gave us a bottle of wine and a dog toy which made the stay that much more special. The kitchen was equipped with all the supplies I needed to cook. Internet worked perfect. The cottage was clean and the front and back doors and windows helped to keep the temperature comfortable. The bluff trail was a short drive from the cottage. The rental company was quick to respond to questions. I highly recommend staying here.

Easter weekend

My parents and my daughter and I stayed at the Downing house over Easter weekend. We came into Cambria to go the Hearst Castle. The House was perfect for us and just as advertised. We were very comfortable and will try to rent this home again at future visits to Cambria.

Lovely home in a lovely spot

The pictures don't do it justice. Charming home in a peaceful, quiet, piney setting, a short drive to town or to the beach and bluffs. Deer and wild turkeys wandered by every day. Lots of thoughtful touches and conveniences for visitors. And the cutest door stoppers ever.

Great location

The house is in a quiet neighborhood and close to town. It's furnished well and has a great kitchen. The manager was wonderful. The yard could be cleaned up a bit. There were a lot of cobwebs. But this year we have the same problem at home. We would be happy to come here again.

A Warm Welcome at Downing Ave.

We unfortunately had another property right down the street cancel on us 2 days before we were supposed to check in but Cambria Vacation Rentals came through for us! We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary and brought our 2 dogs and infant daughter. The place was plenty large enough for us and our dogs enjoyed the yard. They also enjoyed watching the turkeys walk by. The movie selection was awesome I found about a dozen I'd been wanting to watch. We loved how close it was to town (just far enough), and everything, including Fiscialini Ranch Preserve, was just 5-10 minutes away. CVR was very accommodating with check in and check out, gave us extra fans for the unseasonably warm weather since most places don't have air conditioning, and even sent us away with dog toys and a bottle of local wine (courtesy of the owner). 10/10 Would book again.

The cabin could not have been better equipped with the nicest of things. It was super clean. Having a yard was such a nice bonus. Trees, trees, trees everywhere and on one of our morning walks we were greeted by a deer not 60 yards away. There were just the two of us but I could see a family of four enjoying several weeks, or the summer staying in this exceptional cabin. property management was extremely helpful. Be sure to checkout property management operational hours and do not expect easy access to your cell phone.

Spacious, well-stocked, and located in quiet neighborhood short drive from town. We watched deer and wild Turkey wander by property. Patios are fenced which was wonderful for our pup. There are many amenities to make you feel at home. The weather was perfect and there are so many fun activity abd places to go in the surrounding area. We look forward to visiting again.

We will be back!

Such a great location!!! Everything you need and so comfortable! Before my friend and I were packing up our cars to head out, we were already looking at our calendars to plan for another trip back. We will be staying here again and will be coming back separately with our families. It’s very clean, doggy friendly, and so comfortable!

Reviewer Comments: We booked a house with Cambria Vacation Rentals and was called a few days before our stay, explaining that we would have to stay in a different house. This other house was fine, but had only one bathroom, and an odd layout. The house we chose initially had a hot tub and partial view of the ocean. Although the company was considerate, this was not the ideal house for us. However, after my roommmate called the office to explain the situation, we received a generous one night refund. I thought that was wonderful. The house we stayed in was located in a beautiful spot and was clean and well stocked. I did trip over the brick fireplace area in the living room a number of times, but otherwise the stay was lovely. I'd definitely recommend Cambria Vacation rentals and plan on using them in the future.
