What I really love about the property is the history! Before the original Grandma's took over the property it was Angelo's sandy beach resort. Angelo Sr who was the bar manager at Original Joe's San Francisco in the 30's bought the property in 1943, it was a hot dog and burger joint which he transformed into a restaurant and a bar he called '"The View". It catered to locals, City folk, hollywood types and the list goes on, by all accounts most loved Angelo's italian dinners most notably his specialty short ribs and his unassuming charm and wit. They came from far and wide for the food and dancing including popular music names of the day playing to the clientele from the bandstand, There was also a nightly racoon show on a redwood tree deck outside the bar window involving racoons eating cooked pasta without the sauce , much to the delight of the patrons, Herb Caen wrote about the place and of Angelo on numerous occasions.
After being a burger joint, resort and sandy beach with ice cream parlor, sometime casino, Italian restaurant, and bar with dancing and live music, it was time to pass the baton to his son Angelo jr who ran the restaurant into changing times and into the 90's but as generations moved with the times it took two lovely Ladies, Heather and Mickey who adorn the walls as the original Grandmas to slow the pace and cater to a different market which we are honored to keep going today as was their wish. Grandma's has everything you want for a relaxing, replenishing, rejuvenation of the body and mind. All She asks is to slow down and leave the world behind when you enter through the door so many have been through before. The rest She will take care of! Grandma's is waiting, don't be late!
There are a lot of old photo's and postcards on the walls of Grandmas and the area back in the day to celebrate the history of the building and area(if the walls could only talk...)
