The apartment was listed as elegant and charming and the photos depicted this. When we arrived, however, we found a living room with a sagging, shabby sofa, stained and scratched tables, cheap and flimsy lamps, and a rug without a rug pad that slipped all over the room. In the kitchen were dead plants and dirty cookware. On the positive side, the apartment had a dishwasher, washer, and dryer which were very convenient. The beds were comfortable. The neighborhood was fine—a few blocks from Rue Mouffetard and a metro stop. The two bedrooms might work for a family. Best of all, Steven, the property manager, was terrific. Immediately responsive to every request, friendly, and helpful. The apartment was more expensive than several others we considered; ; we rented it because it looked worth the money. It isn’t. At half the price, perhaps.
