We had a great stay at the cabin! The cabin was very clean and check-in was easy. Everything we needed was already there which was great. The beach access was wonderful. The canoe was fun to use but the dock does need to repaired as it is unsafe to walk across with the tilting and eroding boards. Overall we had a great time and would stay here again!

Check in was easy, very easy to miss access road to cabin, drove by it before we saw the small sign pointing the path. Cabin is cozy, A/C unit in only 1 BR, weather was good so no problem there. Nice Fire Pit outside.

This is an exceptional property and we can’t recommend it highly enough. The cabin was exactly what we hoped for and we’ll have unforgettable memories from our time here. Clean, well appointed, and perfectly located. Sunset swims and cozy fires every night. We are grateful to Charlie for hosting us.

The cabin was cozy. Everything we needed for a great stay was provided! We loved the Lake Michigan beach access! Our dog enjoyed her daily swims! Don’t attempt the 2000 piece puzzle with the collage of kids and adults- you’ll never finish it!!

Charlie was welcoming from the very beginning! Beautiful property with lots to do. A minute walk to the beach and fishing all over. Had a wonderful time there for a quick weekend trip.

It’s a very peaceful setting and mostly very clean, just a cobweb or two as you might expect from a cabin in the woods. Lots of thoughtful touches; plenty of clean bath towels, toiletries, kitchen dishes and utensils. Even a freezer with several frosted mugs ready to go! Lake Bar had a low water level and a lot of vegetation so getting through the neck to the main body was a challenge; may need to get out and pull boat through, but great to have a private deck, canoe, and kayaks. DVD and VHS player, surround sound, and cable channels- tv was easy to work. We enjoyed the nostalgia of watching a VHS too! Our only issue was the fridge is not working properly and was not getting cold enough, we ended up keeping our perishables in our cooler with ice. Also, we weren’t aware there was no AC- there are several fans and a window ac unit in the bedroom which is right above the head of the bed and clicks on every few minutes loudly. We would go back but probably not during the Summer as it could I get uncomfortable quickly, even by the lake. Overall a good stay!

Cozy location within walking distance of the Giant Sequoia at Lake Bluff Arboretum and the beach. Charlie was very responsive to any questions we had. Easy drive to downtown which is full of eclectic shops and tasty eateries. We’ll definitely try to come again.

Location, Location, Location!

Beach, Lake, Pond, Hiking trails all steps away. The cabin has all that you need for a peaceful stay. Many lovely local restaurants in town.

Everything was great. The private beach space was an easy short walk away. It's a nice and fairly private location. You can hear some traffic but that comes with being so close to Lake MI. The water was crystal clear and it was nice to watch the sunset from the beach.

Cozy rustic cabin in a convenient location.

Our host was very friendly at check in and check out. We fell in love with Duncan, the owner's dog who visited us nightly. This property is a birder's paradise.

We came for 2 weeks. My kids and grandkids were a last minute add on and Charlie was so gracious. They stayed for 5 days and it was a blast. The beach is so close just a 5 min walk. The Audubon bird sanctuary and state park are to the left as you walk to the beach. It's a good long walk with beautiful stones and bits of "sea glass" The trail to the Audubon bird sanctuary is on Birch St. Take a left out of the drive way and look for the signs. Its dog friendly and avoids the main road. The cabin itself is filled with loving touches and art. It is set up for game nights campfires and cozy nights. There are ample bike riding trails and you can ride into town for any number of yummy restaurants. On Saturdays the Wagoner farmers market is in full swing. The water level in the little pond connecting Charlies property to Bar lake was super low and impassable. We managed to Kayak on lake Michigan by hoisting the kayak across the path and road. the water was calm and peaceful. My husband managed to portage from lake Michigan to a little path and unto bar lake and do a little fishing. It is doable but not with the canoe. Another issue is the WiFi. It is super spotty every where and we could not use the Amazon fire stick. If your trying to stay away from all the socials, just watch DVDS and videos It's great. The refrigerator went on the fritz and Charlie was extremely responsive and a great host. It's not the Ritz Its a cabin on the lake We enjoyed every minute.

Sweet Manistee Getaway

We loved staying at this cabin near Manistee; we had great access to hiking and it was a beautiful part of MI to explore. The host was very nice and accommodating -- he thought of everything! Thank you for a fantastic weekend!

Retired businessman & sportsman, I spent my formative childhood through high school years in the immediate area participating in a multitude of outdoor activities. Attended college downstate as well as running a business for 30 years. I made plenty of trips up from metro Detroit to see family and friends, and share in outdoor activities. I actually worked through high school here at the old saw mill on the property as the assistant to the owner that was also a high school teacher here at Manistee High. I live in a residence on the property, adjacent to but out of sight from the rental cabin. I am around if you need, but other wise leave you to your privacy. I suffered an accident shortly after purchasing this property and wound up wheelchair bound. In spite of that I get around pretty well here to maintain things.

As I explained above, this is my home town. I had the opportunity to purchase this property, and was thrilled to have the opportunity. As the saw mill operator's hand here, I had the run of the property, great memories mainly on Bar Lake as kids. The property is uniquely situated as you will find out, with a year-around home and a seasonal guest cabin located on a parcel with a large section of wetlands, and adjacent to the Lake Bluff Michigan Audubon Society. I have rented the cabin on the property since purchasing it, so I have things pretty well worked out after 15 years.
