Amanda, Right at the start of our site, under the introduction and description, there are two asterisks. The first comment calls attention to our No Pet policy and the second describes the need for guests to bring linens. To my knowledge no one else has come without linens. I’m so sorry that happened to you - a real inconvenience for sure. To be super sure no one else has this issue I will make a note to call the linen policy specifically to the guests’ attention before I even accept their rental request. P.S. Our cottage is too old to be plumbed for machines and our cleaners have only 5 hours between summer guests so no time for a laundromat. Hence this policy. Thank you for your review. (-: Karen

Thanks, Barbara, for being our guest and thanks for the 5 stars. I just wanted to offer an objection to the term "shabby" which, according to Webster's dictionary, means: "thread bare - worn till no longer respectable." Louisvilla is indeed old, it's quite well known in the area for it's various historical connections. But the living areas are nice (the flooring is better than we've ever had in our homes!) as you can see from the photos. (-: Karen

Bev, Thank you for the kind review. You are right about the heat. We say in the Amenities section on this site that the new furnace only effectively heats the downstairs. (The old cottage could not be retrofitted when it was installed). Fortunately the weather at the end of September is usually mild. This year we had a record-setting cold spell. Going forward I will be sure to warn folks before they book about the unpredictable nature of the weather these days. I'm so sorry your upstairs bedrooms were cold. Karen

JOHN, Thank you for your review and sharing your thoughts.A large cottage holding up to 10 people takes a lot of abuse (not you, thanks!). You’d be surprised what furniture we have to replace each and every season. It’s hard and very expensive to get furniture delivered up there but we feel we replace subpar furniture in a timely way while keeping the rent ridiculously low. I am actually raising the rent for next season to help with this but most renters like the low rate. You got a large cottage holding 10 people in a primo location for $375 a night. We’ve chosen to keep our place available for families who might not be able to afford a posher place. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay overall. Please tell me what was misleading on my site. We advertise a traditional Door County Cottage. The furniture is appropriate, not junky, broken and dirty. (We offer many photos to help renters see for themselves.) The price is super affordable and we have long-timers who have rented for forty years or so because they get the best location for a price they prefer. We could double the price and turn it into a modern condo/type but that is not our niche. As for the receptacles, we are constantly inspected and licensed and everything is safe and proper. We have NEVER had an overload or so much as a flipped breaker from the kitchen. (No where in the living room do even three appliances share a receptacle.) I regret these guests chose our place over the modern expensive place they would have preferred. Karen Campbell

I had a nice discussion with Alessia who explained that it was only two coffee cups that a guest found not properly washed. There was apparently no issue with bowls, plates, glasses, etc. This is the first time we have received a complaint of this nature. We appreciate the feedback and will work even harder to guarantee our guests a great stay! (-: Karen

Michelle, We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Regarding the paint, just because some is peeling doesn't mean it is lead-based paint which has been out of use for almost 40 years. The house has been repainted inside and out countless times since then. Because the house is closed up and unheated during the frigid Fish Creek winters the interior paint takes a beating. Every spring we scrape and repaint as much as we can but don't have time to get to it all. Our children were in the house frequently growing up and our two-year old grand child was just there this season. There is no risk to children in the house but I'm sorry you might have worried about the paint. I wish you had emailed me about your concerns. Thanks again for choosing Louisvilla. (-: Karen

There is certainly no excuse for our cottage not being clean. In over 40 years of renting Louisvilla this is the first such comment we have received. Door County and especially Fish Creek have been discovered by the world and the service sector has not been able to catch up yet. We have a wonderful cleaning crew but newer establishments are struggling to get help. I will talk to my folks. For the cottage to be this bad they must have been swamped and simply forgot to stop and clean our place due to issues and/or confusion with their schedule. My apologies to this party and my promise that our family doesn't work hard for weeks on upkeep and repair just to have it undermined by poor cleaning. We are proud of Louisvilla and have six parties who have returned every summer for over 30 years. I appreciate helpful fedback like this and will try to devise a reminder method that doesn't insult the professionalism of our crew but puts the satisfaction of our guests above all. Rachel: Thank you for being our guest and for taking the time to write a review. We try to give our potential guests an accurate picture of what it is like to vacation at our cottage and your review will help us do this. Since Louisvilla is one of the few original historic cottages remaining in Fish Creek we have been careful to preserve its authenticity. We prioritize safety and code compliance of course. But we have resisted trying to rewire to put in more outlets or to replumb to allow a dishwasher. I'll try to emphasize your suggestions about folks bringing some short extension cords and extra dishtowels. We would love to have you stay with us again. (-: Karen
