Summer construction at Timberline disrupted the perfect serenity some, but with Dolly Sods so close, it was easy to escape into the wilderness.

Beautiful home, close to Dolly Sods and other hiking spots. Lovely small towns nearby (Davis, Thomas) with plenty to see and do. We will be back!

Nice gem of a house in old Timberline!

We got to experience it during a very snowy January, and all 4 of us where very comfortable there, plenty of beds to go around, and a super nice view from the windows and deck. The kitchen had everything we needed, which saved on meals out.

Hike the dolly sods

Could not be a better location for hiking dolly sods, the house was large enough for a family of 6 and even though it was just my wife and I, we could have easily invited another couple and been very comfortable

Wald Haus was a perfect place to spend that time hiking, reading, entertaining out-of-state guests, and watching sunsets. Out 3-year-old labradoodle also enjoyed the visit.We especially loved the deck and house sitting room -- views of trees and deer.The house was very accommodating. As vegetarians, it can be challenging finding restaurants... but Milo's in Davis offered a delicious option.

Quiet, restful, getaway

The house was clean and comfortable. Nestled in the woods, while there are other houses nearby, you cannot see them and mostly you don't hear them either. It is not far from Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls, Senaca Rocks and so it is great for the hiker. We also enjoyed the fourth of July celebration in the little town of Thomas. All in all a great vacation.

Love the area

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I could tell the house was clean but it was very smelly (most likely due to sitting empty with no air flow) and the carpets were pretty stained. I think the carpets needed a shampoo which might also help with the smell. The plumbing sounds like it has some serious issues, when flushing a toilet or showering you hear very loud humming and an almost fog horn like noise. It was so loud it would wake me and my dog up. There was also only handsoap in the half bath and nowhere else in the home. The yard hadn't been cut the first day we were there, the grass was above my lab's head but luckily the next day it was taken care of. Otherwise we liked the neighborhood, it was quiet and my dog enjoyed walking by the lake. We love the Canaan Valley area and found the location convenient. If this home was maintained better I would stay here again but at the price I think there are nicer places I have stayed in the area.

One of our yearly stay’s in Old Timberline

One of our yearly visits to the valley staying in Old Timberline was nice and enjoyable with the family and granddaughter. The fishing was great in the Trout Pond and Spruce Island Lake. Enjoyed the house and all the decorative decor. The weather was perfect, only rained on Friday a little while, we didn’t even have to wear a coat or jacket. We love Best of Canaan for our rental company, they are the best.. We are looking forward to the next trip in the valley this fall..

I was a bit taken back by the fees from the best of cannaan. The cabin rents for $175 a night on VIBO but it ends up being $300 a night with all their fees. a bit much I thought.

Siblings reunion

This was the first time we stayed at this property, and we hope to come back. The house was spacious and clean. It rained the whole time we were there, with a few breaks of clear weather, but it didn't matter. Being tucked into the woods with windows all around made it feel like we were outdoors. There is a great deck that can be accessed from the kitchen or master bedroom. We would definitely stay there again.

Mountain Biking the Canaan Valley

House is “as advertised”. Listing was accurate. The two sun rooms are amazing. Deck is a nice area to spend time as well. In close proximity to Canaan Valley State Park (7 minutes) and about 17 minutes from Davis. There’s a well stocked grocery store in Davis. They have a nice selection of local beers there. Or take a short walk to Stumpstown Brewery from the grocery store. We are not used to picking up keys for rentals. Most places have lock boxes. But, you have to practically drive by the rental agency to get to the property. So… no big deal. It’s a gated community so no riff raff and the neighboring houses are almost invisible with the foliage. An added bonus… a short drive to the top of development gives you access to Dolly Sods. There’s a great lookout point a short walk from where you park up top. Great for sunsets.

Beautiful cabin in thr heart of the woods!

We took 2 nights backing with a family of 6 from this cabin. It was a gtreat adventure without being toomuch for children ages 10-17.

Warm, comfortable, clean home with extra space just where it's needed.

We planned a 3 day ski weekend and were very comfortable with the house and its accommodations. We had a problem with the oven, contacted property management and a temporary oven was delivered before our next meal. We'd love to stay again in other seasons to be able to enjoy the outdoors as well. Best of Caanan is top notch.

Perfect Getaway

The layout of the two upper bedroom with loft is very nice giving everyone some privacy. The kitchen lacked storage space for personal items. Recommend you bring a large tight closing storage bin for personal food items unless you want to share them with Mickey Mouse and his family. There is a large mud room next to kitchen which was a lifesaver for personal kitchen item storage and in keeping house clean from tracking mud and leaves inside.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The cleanliness and general condition of the Wald Haus did not meet our basic expectations. The location was excellent for our needs. Property management scheduled delivery of firewood. There were several issues with the cleanliness of the property as it was nowhere near spotless. Cabinets, shelves and drawers in the kitchen need a full cleaning. We cleaned out three drawers and several shelves to make this useable during our stay. The owners have a large amount of family memorabilia in the kitchen that is taking up space on the counters and in the kitchen cabinets. We did not use the 2nd family room built as an addition on the main floor. The 2nd family room has large areas of mold/mildew on two walls near the ceiling. I cleaned the owners vacuum and purchased vacuum bags to sweep the floors. The key only worked well in the main entrance, the rest of the door locks including the lock on the garage access door need to be replaced. Gutters overflowed during moderate rain, and there were several indications on the ceiling of water damage. I used the owner's ladder to clean out the gutters over the deck. The walkway to the deck has washed out creating a safety hazard along the side of the house. Garage door track needs realigned.I sent emails to the property manager outlining these issues.We looked at other properties to rent in 2022 to find an alternative to the Wald Haus for our next extended stay in Canaan Valley. I would not recommend this property in it's current condition to a friend or relative.
