The warmest "Chill" in OBX

Based on a great visit last year, my wife and I decided to visit the Outer Banks again this year and although in September there are hundreds of rental possibilities, only the Chill Beach Bungalow was going to be our choice. Last September we visited the Chill Beach and was completely wowed by the hospitality that Michael Hamilton and Maria afforded us. Available at every step of the process either with a recommendation or an idea to make the vacation special we thoroughly enjoyed our first time to the Outer Banks. When we booked this time we picked the worst possible week in the path of a Hurricane that wound up making landfall in the Outer Banks. Michael, the host, kept in touch throughout that week and offered us the option of coming the week following the event. Everywhere an accommodation could be made, Michael and Maria made it. Making our trip exceptional was evident in every detail. Whether it was the great greeting by Allison, one of the team members or the lovely touch of a gift beach bag waiting for us, each touch point is well thought out and is designed to overcome any obstacle to enjoying your time. We were lucky this visit that Michael and Maria were in town and we were able to meet and share a bottle of wine. I am not an enthusiastic Air BnB visitor, but, if you are looking for an absolutely worry free and a super "Chill" experience, DO NOT HESITATE to book the Chill Beach Bungalow ..... (Just not the first week in September next year)!

Awesome beach vacay!!!

Such a great place to relax after a day at the beach! This charming house has much to offer and the owners were great at meeting of needs. It is not a fancy-schmancy house, but one you can put your feet up in and truly unwind. There is not a dishwasher if that is important to you, but there are loads of beach toys and table games! We did not walk to the beach...it was a very hot week, but the two minute drive was easy and we always managed to find parking. The beds and linens were excellent and the showers were perfect! Loved the outdoor shower!!! Thanks for a great week!

A perfect choice

My wife and I had a some free time and decided on a road trip to the Outerbanks followed by a few days with some North Carolina friends. I have never used an Airb before but we had our two small dogs and have not really found pet friendly hotels suitable. I filtered my search for a property by the beach which would accommodate our quiet small dogs and provide the privacy and convenience of home. From the moment we arrived, I knew that something was different. The hosts, Mike and Maria could not have made the experience more perfect. Many people are able to convert their property to accommodate guests, but few under the hospitality business like Mike and Maria. Every single need was anticipated and we felt at home in their home immediately. The property was immaculate and it’s location couldn’t be more convenient. Maria stayed in touch by text during our stay always ready for a suggestion or to answer any questions. My wife and I have travelled extensively over the years and this experience was wonderful in every way. I couldn’t recommend this property more......

Stay here and you'll leave relaxed, refreshed, and happy

This was our first time visiting the Outer Banks and our stay couldn't have been better with this comfortable, homey, and chill bungalow. It was perfect for us: two adults and a large dog. We didn't even use the upstairs the main floor was just perfect. Great location -- the beach was literally down the road a few minutes as was just about anywhere else you'd want to explore. As for the hosts -- they're AWESOME! They put up with my steady stream of questions and provided us with a list of dog friendly spots. A friend of theirs even dropped off a half dozen Duck donuts on their behalf during our stay. That's above and beyond hospitality in our book. We'd stay again in a heartbeat, loved the neighbors (except the grumpy chihuahua), and all told this is a perfect place for a beach vacation. You won't be disappointed if you elect to stay here! Oh and how could I forget the outdoor shower.....bliss!

Loved staying at the Chill Beach and Surf Bungalow

Thank you for the great stay in OBX, we enjoyed staying at your property! The outdoor shower was awesome and having both a Gas & Charcoal grill really helped with our love of food, we used both and the picnic table outside - Everyone was very responsive with my questions and the entire stay went great. thank you

Amazing way to make great memories!

When you first arrive to the property you instantly feel all worries and concerns melt away. The home is so inviting with beautiful treasures from the sea and images from local beach life. Everything was so clean and ready, the rooms were so clean and relaxing to be in. There is a pier not far away for those that like fishing or simply to watch the catch of the day. Cool little vintage arcade at the entrance. Cannot wait to rebook in the future, it’s a must for anyone looking to escape the day to day grind and to experience life out on the Outer Banks.

Sweet bungalow in the Outer Banks

Lovely 3 bedroom bungalow close to shopping, restaurants and beach on quiet cul-de-sac. Nicely appointed kitchen, washer and dryer, large tv and internet. Big deck in front and back of the house. Our dog joined us on this get away and loved the backyard. Thank you Michael and Maria for renting us your lovely bungalow!

Quiet neighborhood with just the right amount of amenities & fun

We had a blast going to 1st street beach every day, then coming home to shower and get ready for an afternoon in the outer banks. Loved the washer & dryer & back deck! Highly recommend! Will be coming back for another family vacation 😊

Chill Beach and Bungolow

Thank you Micheal and Maria for allowing us to enjoy your bungalow! We had an amazing time , The beach was nice, people in the area are so friendly and nice. The outside shower was really fun. We really appreciated your hospitality. The flowers wer such a nice surprise on door step . Bikes were nice gesture to have to ride. Thank you for letting us bring Maddie! Quaint cottage close to everything!

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at the Chill Bungalow. The facility itself is clean and well-cared for. While not opulent, it offers everything we needed to enjoy OBX for a couple days. It is optimally positioned within easy driving distance and a nice walk to the beach. I would stay here again!

Comfortable and homey!

We spent Labor Day weekend at the house during tropical storm Hermine and still had a great time. We didn't get to enjoy the cool backyard or the beach cruisers, but board games kept us busy, beds were comfortable and it was the perfect place to relax and get away for our family of 4. There's also a great manual for the house with that explains everything you could possibly need. Very thoughtful homeowners!

Quiet neighborhood , not far from the beach and sound!

This cottage is in a quiet cul de sac . Cottage has nice kitchen and dining , living area . The bikes were great to take a ride to Wright Brothers and ride the bike paths ! Beds were very comfortable . There were two of us so one bathroom was not an issue . Loved the outdoor shower !

Beach Bungalow

The bungalow worked great for us to stay at. It was clean and the AC worked well. Micheal is honest about the fact that it isn't anything fancy, but it serves the purpose of a safe, clean place to stay. It is at the end of a quiet cul de sac and only a few minutes to the beach!

The house was awesome.

We loved our vacation in OBX. The house was clean, and well equipped with bikes, beach towels, 2 grills, and even a surf board! We really liked the outdoor shower after coming home from the beach, it made it easy to get the kids clean without a fuss. The neighborhood was also perfect for a vacation with children--It was quiet, friendly, and within walking and biking distance to everything. Over all we loved our stay at the chill surf bungalow .

Nice House, Great Yard, Perfect Location

My friends and I had a great time at the Bungalow! Michael was an excellent host and very attentive to any possible needs we might have had. The weather was amazing so we spent almost all of our time on the beach or chilling in the backyard playing kanjam and grilling a variety of fine meats. Would recommend this spot for anyone looking to spend a lot of time outside. The house isn't massive (we had 5 large men in their mid-20's) but it was very comfortable with great amenities. We enjoyed every second and were able to crash hard at the end of each day. I would absolutely rent here again!

Perfect surf and beach getaway!

We had a great little getaway at the chill beach bungalow! Michael had great communication with us, so we knew just what to expect before we arrived and he also checked in on us to make sure we had anything we needed. Though he was away travelling so we did not get to meet him, he also provided us with a local contact in case we needed anything which we thought was great! Though we did not need anything else, it was great to know who to contact if we did. The instructions to find and get into the house were super easy to follow. The beach cottage was just as the pictures described. It is super clean. The other great thing is that it seemed like Michael really thought about all the little things from kitchen supplies, wifi, cable, electronics to candles to make you feel like you are at home. It was still a bit warm when we were there, so we were happy to find the house well air conditioned with plenty of fans. There is even a huge Haiku fan in the living room area! We had a great weekend enjoying the bbq in the back yard. There are even two grills for your preference, gas or charcoal with a great picnic table so everyone can enjoy a meal in the yard together. It was also nice to relax in the hammock. We were walking distance to the beach and sound as well as a putt putt course and grocery store. There is also a nice surf spot at the end of first street. All the other major attractions like the Wright Brothers memorial were a short drive. I can't wait to come back to the Outer Banks and stay in the chill bungalow again!

Great beach house. Super chill.

This was a great spot! Perfect for dropping in to the beach for a long weekend, or a last minute swell. The house is in a great neighborhood right in the center of town (close to a lot of good restaurants and bars). The neighborhood was quiet, which was nice, and made it good for relaxing. Real easy bike ride to the beach or the sound! Michael was super accommodating and let me know where I could find everything I needed. I will definitely be coming back to this place (soon!) and highly recommend it to anyone! The house has a great layout with a spacious kitchen and a big backyard. Perfect for grilling out after a long day at the beach. I thought the hammock out back was a great touch!

We are an active and curious couple that loves to travel, live life by the beach, meet interesting people, learn and ohh yea, surf whenever possible. We believe there is something magical about spending time in coastal regions and we hope you do to!

With a passion for coastal living and some experience in renovations Maria and I decided a few years ago to restore and renovate a bungalow to its original charm. We knew we would spend time there with our family and friends, because we love the area and chic bungalows, but did not realize how much our guests would like it or the impact it could have for them.

We have had so much fun and become very passionate about creating memorable guest stays, unique experiences and making more of an impact. Since our first bungalow we have grown to cover both coasts and add more places to stay. The “original” Live Swell Beach Bungalow, The Chill Beach and Surf Bungalow, is still available for rent in the OBX today.

Our favorite time of year in the OBX is the fall + late spring when the weather is beautiful, the fishing is great, crowds are down and the surfs up.

As hosts: We am super easy going, we respect our guest privacy but may stop in to say hello

As guests: Super laid back and low maintenance

Favorite Destinations: California, Baja Mexico, Guancaste Costa Rica, Spain, Peru, Long Island NY, Outer Banks NC, San Diego.

Things we could not live without:
1. Good friends and family relationships
2. A beach house, grill, fireplace and surfboards

We purchased this property because it is located in one of the the best surf destinations and rad surf towns on the east coast of the US. Like most people, having a beach house is a dream come true.

We have always felt the best places to live, visit or "staycation" are those locations that offer a mix of consistent waves, chic accommodation, welcoming + insightful locals, exciting beach culture, great eating options and heaps of fun activity.
