After 15 years of alternating between a cruise and an all inclusive resort (like Sandals), my wife and I decided to “rent“ a property, choosing this time to clean up daily for ourselves, to make our own meals, and to generate fun on our own. I did all the research, and this assignment will fall on my wife’s shoulders next year, but I had one criterion to begin with, and that was to search VRBO properties with five’s across-the-board. Any property with a lesser rating was eliminated, and I chose from among perhaps 100 properties. I did give this property added points because my wife and I had never been to Honduras nor to this island.
This property did not disappoint. It might be the best VRBO property for a couple in all the Caribbean. The staff is led by Phil, who makes sure that everyone else gives 100% excellent service. The unit came with a vehicle, and this was needed—an awesome add-on.
Look at the pictures. While they are exceptional, pictures are no substitute for “being there.“ The infinity pool was amazing, and the view even better. The Bali style of our large unit allowed us to open the indoors to the outside when the weather was wonderful, and to close up when, for a short while each (January) day, it rained. If you want to snorkel in the waters off the property, rent a boat with a captain, or take out one of four kayaks, you can. And there’s always someone lurking nearby to assist.
As pet lovers, we fell in love with the property’s cats and dogs. Titon, a boxer/pit mix, Leo and two other cats were regular and friendly visitors. The home is stocked with everything you will ever need, blender, dishwasher, coffee maker, extra towels, dishes, etc.
The island of Roatan is pretty typical of most Caribbean islands in that the wealthy occupy places along the shore, while the rest of the world resides and works on the interior. Punta Gorda to the north is a recommended destination, with a great back story, along with West Bay and West End.
All in all, if we could give the property a six out of five, we would. This property will remain the standard for us in the future. No longer, I think, will we cruise, and we may think twice about all-inclusives because this property opened us up to a less expensive and better alternative – – buy your own food and cook it, buy your own alcohol and drink it, and augment all of that with some beauty and fun!
Needless to say, we highly recommend that you stay here.
