This veteran owned and veteran built cabin is newly cozy and ready for your two-person getaway!
The Cabin That Lee Built is a lovely one bedroom one bathroom sanctuary conveniently located just off Illinois highway 13 in the hidden neighborhood of Lakewood Park. Inspired design and attention to detail are rivaled only by the natural beauty of the Crab orchard refuge.

Enjoy nearby attractions: Prime location.

It is a short drive to The artsy community of Makanda illinois, and an even shorter drive to the food and fun in the college town of Carbondale Illinois.

Love the local wine trail?

We are conveniently located within minutes of many wineries. Hikers and explorers will love the easy access to the many trails of the Shawnee National Forest or Giant City State Park.

Fishing and water recreational sportsman will delight in the super easy access of four local lakes. Crab orchard, Devil's kitchen, and Cedar lake. We also have ample parking available for your boat.

The wilderness is right at your back door. This enchanted cabin is within walking distance to the Crab orchard refuge.

Or stay the evening in. We offer an intimate private yard with great outdoor ambience. Cuddle up while watching the mesmerizing dance of flames in the fire pit. This cabin is an inviting retreat for rest and relaxation.

Meals will be easy and fun at The Cabin That Lee Built. We offer a fully equipped kitchen with an open floor plan and complimentary farm fresh eggs. Enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the neighborhood and take in the beautiful starry nights of Southern Illinois.

This is a perfect cozy and charming cabin tucked away in the woods. Exactly as described, very clean and has perfect little extras. Hosts are great and quick to respond. This is our second time staying and we plan on returning. Great place if you want to stargaze, fish or boat in the area.

Such a cute little cabin! I wish the stay would've been longer as it was incredibly cozy and well appointed. Would've loved to have a TV in the bedroom, but I understand that not everyone feels that way. Will definitely book again if available during my next visit!

Great cozy place to be near the Shawnee Forest and Carbdondale.

Very clean and well-loved. I really love that we could bring our dog and it was quiet and private. We hiked Little Grand Canyon, ate in Carbondale, and just enjoyed down town at the home.

Cozy, comfortable cabin for a peaceful getaway!

Booked for one night near the Shawnee National Forest. This cabin was so sweet, we found ourselves wanting to stay there longer to take in all that the cabin had to offer, which was a great getaway! Wonderful choice!!! Hope to come back!!!

Overall stay was amazing. Only complaint was about blinds being short on windows , bed was hard , shower curtain was missing. But if the bed was softer it would have been perfect just had a hard time sleeping

Awesome stay

Linda and Jon were great and very responsive hosts. The cabin had everything you'd expect for a rural setting. The evenings were super quiet and the skies were super dark. The cabin was very warm and cozy for our winter stay. Perfect for a getaway for 2. The recent ice and snowstorms provided for some stunning landscape views. We'll definitely consider booking again when we come back to the area.

Cozy and clean little escape

Took a day ride to visit our daughter and wanted something other than a hotel room. I stumbled across this little cozy cabin down by Crab Orchard and loved it. Nothing super fancy but it was perfect for what we needed. The place was a bit rustic and very clean and we loved it. There were deer and a few other animal visitors that we quite enjoyed. The bed was comfy and we slept great, the location takes you out of the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world. Would love to do it agian.

The cutest little cabin in the woods!

We loved this cute little one-bedroom cabin that was so sweetly decorated and included a beautiful chandelier. The front porch has two rocking chairs and the backyard has a firepit with two Adirondack chairs where we built a fire in the fall. The owner was so kind and we just loved our cabin in the woods! And, they even left us farm fresh eggs from their chickens! What a sweet touch! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! We can't wait to spread the word! The neighborhood this cabin is located looks pretty rough. A lot of houses that are ran down. The outside of the cabin looks pretty rough. That has a lot to do with the dated asphalt siding on sides and back. The last night we stayed was a rainy night and the roof leaked at the access to the attic. The positive is that while the inside was small it was clean and functional. It did what we needed it to do but it wont be a repeat booking. The positive is that the insid atic

My sister and I had a great time staying in the cozy cabin. We enjoyed morning coffee on the front porch listening to the trees sway and the geese honking. We had our evening cocktails by the fire pit, looking at the stars and listening to the cicada or crickets. The bed and bedding were very comfortable. This place had everything that we needed to use as a base camp as we explored the thrift shops in Carbondale, the antique stores in Carterville, and hiking at Giant City State Park.

I am originally from Southern Illinois. I had spent a few of my younger years in the United States Navy, Stationed at 32nd Street San Diego. Attended college at SIU, met my husband. We are raising two children. We spend most of our time gardening and tending our small farm. Very involved in creating and all things artsy.
Hosting is a new adventure for us, and we are committed to making a peaceful, serene, and pleasant stay for you.

There is little to no light pollution in this neighborhood, which makes for a stunning display of the stars at night. We truly love star gazing and cuddling up next to the fire pit but also having the convenience of being near a bustling college town.

This property was hand built by my father-in-law (Also a Navy veteran) as a get away/ fishing bungalow. He spent a lifetime curating and rebuilding the L. L. Bell Building in Makanda Illinois.
As a Up- Cycle artist myself, I admire his dedication to craftsmanship and repurposing of materials. It creates a sense of warmth and welcomeness that has the weight of history.
This cabin is an ode to his creativeness.
We utilized architectural elements and light fixtures from Makanda, to create this warm space.
