Ad Astra Place, an 18-unit building originally constructed in 1904, has been undergoing a comprehensive renovation by Megan Hayes, a local resident, since she purchased the building in 2019. Being just 2 blocks from the Kansas State Capitol Building, this building celebrates Kansas history while integrating modern updates for the comfort of tenants and guests. Each unit, including this second-floor apartment, boasts individually controlled heating and air conditioning, high-speed Wi-Fi, and access to a secure, pet friendly fenced backyard complete with a 120 square foot reclaimed paver patio and fire pit. Patio furniture and BBQ grill are also available. On-site laundry facilities add to the convenience.

Pets are warmly welcomed and treated like family at Ad Astra Place. We provide a comfy bed, pet bowls, and toys for your furry family members! Fun Weekend Visit

Megan was very easy to communicate with and accommodating. She stocks her place with things to help make your stay comfortable and easy even for our fur baby. The thoughtfulness of having resources out for things around the area, welcoming snacks, extra blankets and pillows, stocked kitchen essentials for cooking and cleaning, bathroom essentials, and labels indicating where stuff are located along with bed, treats, and toys for fur baby was perfect.

Getaway

Nice fully furnished one bedroom apartment with blow up mattress for extra guests. Pets are accepted, and our dog enjoyed the toys and treats! I plan on coming back, and would recommend to others.

I have lived in Topeka all of my life, except during my college years. I am a Physical Therapist, but after 30 years, I wanted to do something new so I began working part-time at my PT job and bought this building. The building had been neglected for many, many years and needed someone with a vision. I began renovating it one apartment at a time beginning new windows, electrical, plumbing, and heat/air. After completing 15 of the 18 units, I decided to open an short-term rental unit. It has been so much fun! I love providing people with a comfortable place to stay and often getting to hear the stories of my guests.
In my spare time, I volunteer with dog rescue and spend as much time as I can with my 1 year old granddaughter.

I chose this building due to it's rich history as well as it's proximity to the state capitol building. I chose the name Ad Astra Place for the name of the Native American statue atop the capitol dome, whose name is Ad Astra. This name is part of the Kansas state motto - "Ad Astra, Per Aspera", which means "To the Stars Through Difficulties". The capitol grounds are beautiful and provide a great place for a relaxing walk with your dog, a friend, or just yourself! Another great thing about this location is that it is just a few short blocks from Kansas Avenue, which is the main downtown corridor with restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.

Everything in this apartment is set up to make guests feel right at home from the relaxing 14" mattress to the soft, fluffy towels and comfortable decor. The kitchen has everything you need to make a home cooked meal, the bathroom has all the essentials as well as many commonly forgotten items. The apartment includes smart TV's, a workspace with printing available (just ask!)
The building has a very large front porch with a porch swing and patio chairs. The back yard is fenced for privacy as well as to allow dogs room to run. Tenants and guests have full use of the deck, patio, and firepit. There are even swings out back to relax on.
