Terrible stay. We had to check in one hour after the stare check in time to allow for cleaning. But after checking in we saw the property was not clean, damaged, and smelled of smoke. Instructions were unclear on how to enter the garage in the back alley. The doors didn’t lock or at least there was no way of confirming without locking my kids inside. The cost of the stay was equivalent to an actual 4-star hotel which we ended up moving to. Owners and property manager were belligerent and insisted on sending a cleaner back at 6pm which was futile because the kids needed to sleep. Would avoid this property at all costs if traveling with a family. It’s meant as a party/bachelor(ette) spot.

Unfortunately everything went wrong, including the codes for the garage and door to enter not working, in addition to other issues accessing the property itself. The apartment was grimy but superficially seemed to have been cleaned. Living room smelled strongly of cat urine-quite unpleasant (primary bedroom faintly smelled of urine also)-couch was grimy and smelled, walls very dirty. Just overall feeling of being at someone’s house they have lived in for 30 years and never deep cleaned. The neighbor next door made it abundantly clear she does not want/like renters and was very rude. We were given no instructions on how to enter/access the property, WiFi info, or any instructions whatsoever. The listing is as penthouse apartment, but this is just an apartment in quad-unit building. Initially the host was helpful, but then seemed to become tired of assisting despite the multitude of issues with the apartment and eventually started gaslighting us that we didn’t know how to use the equipment. He also stated, after the fact that, he offered to remove the smelly rug in the apartment, which he did not. Definitely do not appreciate him changing the story; not professional. The one good thing was that the place was interesting, decorated nicely.

After a long day of travel, we arrived to find that the unit had not been cleaned after the prior guest checked out. Beds unmade, dirty bathrooms, crumbs on the counter, trash about. Called host who did not pick up. Called VRBO and sent them pictures. Host finally texted to say the unit had been cleaned and he had pictures, then called to say "it was on him" and he would credit one night stay plus cleaning. I requested a full refund but was denied. He said he would credit the one night plus cleaning but the credit was 200 short. He said he couldn't refund taxes and VRBO takes a cut. After one more request for the full amount of the list night thru messaging thru the app he replied that if I didn't leave a review he would refund the remaining balance of 200 for the one night and he wouldn’t leave a negative review of me. After a long day of travel, having to find a place to stay and several hours on the phone with VRBO we did not want to go back there and had to forfeit the fee for the remaing 5 nights.
