Stepping inside the Bunce Cottage at Seaview Beach is travelling back in time to the Connecticut Shoreline of 1927. Lovingly maintained with appropriate modern updates, little has changed for almost a century. Step off the front porch to a private boardwalk across the marsh to your own private beach and Long Island Sound.

The Bunce Cottage is a spacious and historic vacation rental that offers a unique blend of New England Shoreline old-world charm and modern amenities. With just over 3,000 square feet of living space, the Cottage offers 6 bedrooms and 2.5 baths plus an enclosed outdoor shower. The Cottage has beds for up to 12 people. The large screened front porch provides a panoramic view of Seaview Beach and Long Island Sound, while the Great room includes a large screen LCD TV, a magnificent stone fireplace, and a dining area also with views of the Sound.

The Bunce Cottage has sun filled Southern exposure and is located on the only double lot along Seaview Beach. Set up Adirondack chairs in the front yard and enjoy the beautiful view of Long Island Sound, play croquet or other games in the side yard, and have a family gathering in the large backyard.

There is a 2-car detached garage behind the Cottage on Fairview Ave with parking available in the driveway and along the property perimeter on Fairview Ave and Brookside Ave

Perfect beach cottage! Our family of 12 gathered here for my dad’s celebration of life, and the house was a wonderful and comfortable place to be together. We loved making s’mores around the gorgeous stone fireplace, playing mahjong on the screened porch, walking on the beach hunting for shells, and spending time in town. The house has lots of character and was the ideal spot for family time.

Craig was a fantastic host, and was always available and easy to talk with. The house is perfect for entertaining, and the yard is awesome. Seconds from the beach, and the views are amazing.

The house: Myself and 10 of my family members stayed at this beautiful home for several days (7 adults and 4 children) and we are all completely charmed by the property with the intention of coming back again. The downstairs space lends itself to casual gatherings while enjoying the incredible views of the long island sound and the bedrooms (all of which were used) had air conditioning, great views, and comfortable beds. Above all the home has lots of character with interesting artwork, original wood floors, and fascinating trinkets everywhere. The outdoor shower was fun to use and got a lot of use. We cooked several meals for the entire family and found the kitchen was up to the task and dining together at either the dining table or the screened in porch was a highlight.The area: We enjoyed walking down to the beach, particularly at low tide when sand bars appear way out into the sound. There are lots of crabs along the rocks as the salt marsh meets the sound with endless exploration for kids and adults. Two beaches, including middle beach with a playground is a short drive or bike ride away so we never had to think about activities.The hosts: while cleaning up I foolishly placed a number of dirty clothes in a garbage bag and a family member threw them in the trash (at the very bottom of the container!). Kristen dug through the trash past heaps of food waste to find them for me and even washed and folded them! She was also very responsive and a pleasure to interact with.

The area was originally the Willard Family Seaview Farm until 1912 when it was divided into the "Seaview Farm Tracts". Our Great Grandparents purchased two elevated adjacent lots providing not only a spectacular view of Long Island Sound but also protection from flooding caused by storm surges. It is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the Seaview Beach. Fence Creek is only 100 yards away on the Western end of Seaview Beach - a wonderful area for kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, catching blue crabs, striped bass, and blue fish, or watching ospreys fish for menhaden/bunker. Seaview Beach itself is unique in its two large sandbars that emerge at low tide creating tidal pools for exploring and creating a playground for throwing a frisbee or football, building sand castles, or skim boarding. And the Town of Madison is quintessential New England Shoreline with unique little shops and restaurants.

This unique custom seasonal cottage was completed in 1927 and has been enjoyed by 5 generations of the Bunce Family and our visitors for almost 100 years. Come and experience what it was like on the Shoreline a century ago!
