Who doesn't love Recess? Located on a quiet corner oceanfront lot at the end of Hatteras village, Recess has two carports, a shower, and is an easy walk to the beach, boat docks, and shops. The first level entry has a hall bath with a tub/shower combo and a laundry nook with stacked machines. The first bedroom has a flatscreen TV and shares a bathroom with a tub and shower combo with the second bedroom that features a flatscreen TV. The third bedroom is an oceanfront room with a flatscreen TV. The second level features a tall ceiling and two stories of floor-to-ceiling windows. The well-furnished living room has a large flatscreen TV with a stereo and a DVD player. The tiled kitchen has a breakfast bar and a nearby dining area. An overflow room has access to a half bath. The large, third-story, main bedroom has a cathedral ceiling, a flatscreen TV, and a DVD player, plus a bath with a shower featuring a captivating stained glass marlin. Recess has always been your favorite time, now make it your special vacation place.

Things to know:
You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check-in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.


Please note: Guests have access to the Club Hatteras Pool Facility. Additional details around this facility will be shared in your check-in email and during the check-in process. The club is typically open Mid-May to Mid-October, depending on weather.

The setting of this home is phenomenal! Right on the ocean, near the ferry terminal and museums. The views from the great room and deck were mesmerizing. Easy beach access, well stocked kitchen, plenty of board games, great supply of linens and paper products. We really hope to have the opportunity to stay here again.

A few days away

This house was exactly what we needed for several days away. Beautiful view of the beach, sunrise and sunset. Easy access to the beach. Well equipped kitchen and games. Will book again.

Great family time at the beach

Our family had a wonderful and relaxing time at Recess. Plenty of room, love the bedroom configuration, and outside deck. Especially liked the easy and level walking path to the beach. Risky Business is a great fish store just a couple of minutes away. Overall, great vacation with the children and grandchildren. Hope to come again next year.

Great location. A/C went out in upper level…

This house is in a perfect location for beach access and has everything you need for a great stay. The air conditioning in the upper level went out the last two days of our stay and was blowing heat instead of cool air. We shut it off and slept with the fan but it was very hot and rest of rooms were full in the house. Tried to contact Vacasa about compensation but they only returned one call with a message, then I was unable to reach them or get a return call. For the cost to rent this unit for nearly a week, it would seem fair to get compensated for failed A/C in the summer…

Beautiful home with an even better View!

Despite the fact we were held up for two days, (due to Rt12 flooding), The five days we had were amazing. The house was in great shape and the view of the ocean was perfect. The location allowed to walk out and fish the days we were not able to drive on. This was a great rental. Looking forward to renting it again next year! Thank you for letting us rent your property. Breathtaking views

If you are looking for a house with a view you cannot possibly get any better than this! We would definitely stay here again. As a matter of fact we’ve already checked the calendar but have found that the house is completely booked through October of this year and from April to October next year. The ONLY negative comment I could make is that the bed in the master bedroom was not comfortable.

First off, the view is AMAZING! But, the owner needs to replace (or remove) the blinds in the living area, since most are broken. Also, Hatteras completely shuts down in the winter, meaning NO restaurants were open, which is unfortunate. Although the plan to rent this house again, it won’t be during the winter.

Great stay!

We came down to Hatteras from Maine for a family wedding. 2 families stayed in this house and it was very comfortable! Great location close to beach and quick drive to store/etc. the listing said a propane grill was provided- it was not present when we arrived. But within an hour a loaner grill was delivered along with extra towels we requested. It was a quick and favorable response! My only complaints are the late check in having smalll children and several bedrooms were missing blinds. We made it work, but that should probably be addressed soon!

Relaxing, quiet beach house!

We really enjoyed the house and location. But the house is very musty, could've been cleaner and Vacasa is very difficult to deal with. The door codes they give do NOT work. Took quite a while in cold windy conditions to get into the home. But once in, it was everything we'd expect from a beach house. Very easy access to the beach. Would've been helpful to have a few pantry essentials like salt, pepper and number 4 coffee filters. Be sure to stop at the Food Lion in Avon on your way in and get anything you think you might need. Kitchen was well stocked with cookware and dishes. Cafe Pamlico is the best place to eat out.

Horrible: Bring water, blankets, and a flashlight

I’ll preface this with the fact that our stay was the perfect storm of problems and one of the main issues was too many governing bodies – Vrbo, Vacasa, the local rental managers, and the owners. The house is generally livable, but its age and need of repair made our stay utterly awful. Since I can’t get Vrbo or Vacasa to respond, I’ll put this here. The owners can do what they like with this info. Only my husband and I stayed in this eight-person house. Knowing that the weather might be bad, we opted for a place on the water so that we could at least have a view. This turned out to be a bad decision since gale force winds, flooding roads, and COVID essentially confined us to the house. I’ll briefly outline the issues we had: 1) The owner controlled the thermostat, so we froze the first night. 2) There was no water pressure (literally no water came out of many sinks) for three of the four days we were there. We could barely flush toilets, often couldn't wash our hands, take showers, or do dishes, much less fill a glass to drink or cook. After calling many times, it took me threatening to leave (the afternoon before we checked out) for them to get a plumber there and blow the sand out of the line. To be fair, the rental managers did send someone the day before to get the thermostat working and confirm there was no water, but we went another full day without anyone checking in as promised. 3) The power went out the last night for the whole neighborhood. When you’re dealing with three flights of stairs in pitch dark on an island, it’s scary and there were no flashlights or anything for use to use until they came on. 4) The property in general was livable, but the shingles on the roof were loose and slammed against the roof all night, the deck was unfinished and the tarp hit against the house all night. When we could finally shower on the last day, the shower downstairs didn't drain etc. etc. I also assume the house’s ability to sway in the wind is planned, but the master on the third floor swayed like a boat and popped constantly all night. When you’re from earth-quake country this is unnerving. 5) When the wind finally calmed down the last afternoon, we were surrounded by construction on both sides – saws and hammering the whole time. the long chains of calling Vacasa, to call the rental manager, to call the owners, was ridiculous. Also, not responding to a major plumbing issue or providing any solutions (another rental, refund) was ridiculous.
