Casa Leopoldo by Boutique | Luxe Ligurian Villa
Summary:
This late 18th-century country manor, located between Portofino and Cinque Terre, has been masterfully restored by architect Monika Unger, blending original stone walls and wooden beams with mid-century Scandinavian and Italian furnishings. It comfortably hosts up to 10 guests across its three stories, and offers panoramic views of the mountains and Mediterranean, as well as lush terraced gardens, orchards, and a pool.
The Space:
This restored country house integrates mid-century modern Scandinavian and Italian furniture from architect Monika Unger’s well-known gallery, Be Modern. It features over 3,000 square feet of interconnected living spaces, including a living room with a double-sided fireplace and an open-plan kitchen/dining area leading to the terrace and swimming pool.
The second floor offers three double bedrooms, a sitting room, and two bathrooms, while the attic has two additional bedrooms and a bathroom. Each room offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
There is an additional guest house, Casa Matylda, a lovely restored stone house on three floors with two en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen and a sitting room. Each floor opens to the garden. Casa Matylda is offered exclusively as an addition to Casa Leopoldo for a minimum of three days at an additional charge and cannot be booked on its own. There is no air-conditioning, but fans are provided.
Guest Access:
Guests have exclusive access to the entire villa, gardens, orchard, and pool area. There is a private terrace ideal for outdoor dining and relaxation, with paths that connect directly to the nearby village of Castiglione Chiavarese.
The Neighborhood:
The villa is located in the Ligurian village of Castiglione Chiavarese, a picturesque town reachable by a short walk along a scenic pedestrian path. Visitors will find a few essential shops, a local bar, a well-known butcher, and a pharmacy. The villa’s location is perfect for exploring the Italian Riviera, with Cinque Terre, Portofino, and Lucca all within an hour’s drive. Nearby seaside towns such as Moneglia and Sestri Levante offer charming coastal attractions, while Genoa and La Spezia are also easily accessible by car or train.
Getting Around:
The villa is well-connected for those exploring the region by car or public transport. Genoa’s airport (Genova Cristoforo Colombo) is 50 km away, and Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport is 110 km away. The surrounding villages and coastal towns can be accessed by train or car, providing easy access to both the countryside and coastline.
Other Things to Note:
The villa’s steep, pedestrian-only access path adds to its charm but may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.
An additional guest house with two en-suite bedrooms is available in addition to Casa Leopoldo for a minimum of three days at an additional charge. It cannot be booked on its own.
Please note that guests are required to complete a check-in form and sign disclaimer agreement after booking. Details will be provided upon reservation.
