Amazing location

Very close to the Old Port area in a nice, walkable neighborhood. Stair access to the property could potentially be a challenge for some guests.

We loved our stay here! Super cozy - The living room is more spacious than in the photos, and we loved the heated bathroom floor. We didn't cook much but the kitchen was functional for some basic cooking. Great location on a cute street, and definitely walkable to town if the weather isn't too cold or rainy.

Great location

This spot is in a great location. Close to the park and easy walking distance to downtown. We took advantage of the two included bikes to get around. Super quiet neighborhood, easy parking on the street just outside the unit. Everything we needed was onsite. The owners were gracious hosts and very responsive. We would stay here again.

Great location and view

We wanted a water view plus be relatively close to stores & restaurants. This place 100% met our expectations. And a pleasant surprise? The heated tile bathroom floor! Should we ever wish to visit and stay in Portland in the future, this is the place we’ll book!

Gave us everything we needed for our stay in Portland. Bus stop a block away, walk to downtown in 15 minutes. Lots of restaurants downtown. There was a park at the end of the street that we would walk down to in the afternoons and watch the boats going in and out of the harbor. Can’t wait to go back.

Eastern Prom Stay

We had a wonderful time in the cozy 3rd floor apartment. Some views from dining table, bedroom, and bathroom! Convenient location for all we wanted to do and were able to park on the street easily. Wonderful sunrises and sunsets from the park steps away. Next time we'll use the bikes!

Loved it!

Adorable, charming, with everything you need to cook. High-speed Internet was great. Loved the location. I found communicating with Vacasa to be sub par, they often took several days to respond to questions. The owners themselves were delightful.

Very nice views of the Bay!

This was a lovely property with beautiful views of the bay. There were two floors of stairs that were required to get into the unit so this is something that you should consider if you have mobility issues. Otherwise, the property was clean and a very good location. The property is also managed by a third party rental company and they were very responsive to questions but do require you to create an account on their website to interact with them. That would be my only major complaint. They were very responsive though.

Best stay in Portland

My wife and I have stayed in Portland several times over the years and have always been happy with our accommodations, usually hotels, but this place is hands down our favorite. John and his wife are very welcoming and a wealth of local information. The pictures online don't even do the rooms justice-the woodwork is beautiful, there are tasteful touches everywhere, it is bright and open-feeling with nice views of the bay from the dining area, bedroom and even the bathroom. The air conditioning worked well on the hot days. The bed is firm and comfortable. The Eastern Promenade neighborhood is great. There are interesting, high quality restaurants a few blocks down the street, a good coffee shop and good breakfast options. If you like to run or bike, the waterfront trails and quiet neighborhoods are perfect. Downtown is a short walk. Highly recommend, we'll be staying here again.

Beautiful property, wonderful location, great hosts!

John's and Betty's beautiful, spacious apartment is lovely. Perfect for a couple (one bedroom) or a young family -- large, well-equipped kitchen with wonderful, big window, large living room, ample bedroom and nice bathroom. The location is terrific. It is directly across the street from Casco Bay (which you can see easily from the apartment if you peek around the neighbor's house), a great park where there are summer concerts, a long and beautiful walking/biking path right along the bay. The area was residential and quiet but had easy access to terrific, local restaurants and is just a mile from downtown for more shops, restaurants and activities. Two cautions: this is a steep third-floor walk-up, so if you have any trouble with stairs, this is not for you. (John was lovely about carrying my things up and down the stairs!) And, even with the room a.c., it got a little stuffy, during my stay in July. So if you're sensitive to heat and are going in the summer, it might be a problem. I loved my stay there and would recommend it VERY highly.

We appreciate the 5-star review and are thankful for the guest's stay which coincided with several 90-100 degree days. Regarding her two cautions: The day she notified us of her concern regarding sensitivity to heat we purchased an air conditioner for the kitchen, the recipient of late afternoon sun, removing the oscillating fan which was there to circulate sea breezes from kitchen windows, and cool air entering from the A.C. in the adjacent living room. The new A. C. did cool the temperature in the kitchen though, as things would have it, the next guest requested return of the fan preferring that, and sea breezes, to the new kitchen air conditioner. In any event, thanks to our reviewer, our clientele now have the choice of sea breezes (which are often, though not always, on the Maine coast), plus an oscillating fan, or two air conditioners, to attain the guest's comfort level at the hottest time of the year. The two flight stairway has been used by our guests for over 15 years and never referred to as "steep". In fact, it is of standard design. Following the departure of the reviewer we were pleased to host a person who had a knee replacement this winrter or spring but experienced no apparent difficulty in carrying the couples' luggage to and from the apartment. But should one have trouble with climbing or descending the ordinary stairway in one's own home caution is fair comment.We do look forward to the pleasure of our reviewer's company another time. Problems with bedroom lighting could not be corrected over the phone about an hour after check in. Property manager spend considerable time with us and did all she could but she said not to expect anyone before the next day to help correct the problem. I called the number noted on the apartment door to speck to the owner, who might be more familiar with the problem. No answer. Left message. No reply before we left 4 days later. After two days we discover the lighting problem with the two tiny, vintage, decorative lamps in the bedroom. The problem could have been solved by someone familiar with the bedroom in a matter of minutes. This resulted in an unpleasant experience in the bedroom for two nights although we did achieve unpleasant, unsatisfactory lighting by moving a standing lamp with a wobbly shade in from the living room, leaving it not quite as pleasant. Reviews of the apartment raved over the help provided by the owner. We could have used some of that. Other minor inconveniences are not worth mentioning. The location was great and we enjoyed the city.... But a little assistance from the owner would have been very helpful and appreciated.

The property is in walking distance to many wonderful restaurants. The location was convenient and clean. Sadly, we did not have a good experience at this location. There was noise from a party through paper thin walls from one of the tenants that lives on the property. There are rules for anyone staying at this location to include must be 25 to book and strictly no parties. Unfortunately we were unable to sleep due to loud parties from tenants taking place in the next room. Party did not end until the middle of the night. Owner unresponsive through many attempts to contact him through VBRO. We were told to call the police if we needed help with the noise and that they can’t control the action of the tenants. The owner has corrected many things in his listing to accurately portray amenities to include bikes are now not available during fall and winter. A new light was installed on the third floor now. It was pitch black in the hallway and the stairs are wood and steep. There is no longer a listing for a deck that was a fire escape. I asked for a compensation for this stay which I was afforded. I don’t like writing these types of reviews but if the owner was a little more supportive we could have worked together to resolve these issues. He was more concerned about his ratings and perfect score on VRBO and he told me he didn’t know we were coming because the parent company did not tell him. Great views and sweet apartment but far from a peaceful stay.

We want to clarify a few points for future guests. This is an apartment within a shared home, and while house rules are in place, occasional noise from neighboring occupants can occur and is unfortunately beyond our direct control. During your stay, the owner was on site, met with you multiple times, and addressed the situation by speaking with the neighboring tenants and requesting that they quiet down. We understand how frustrating this was and regret that it affected your ability to rest. The fire escape referenced is not intended for guest use and is not listed as a deck. There is a front porch with seating available for guests. The bikes are offered seasonally and are stored in the basement, as noted in the listing. Had you wished to use them, the owner would have been happy to bring them up for you. Several listing updates were also completed to ensure amenities and features are accurately represented. We also want to note that you were provided a generous refund in acknowledgment of the inconvenience you experienced. While we regret that your stay was not as peaceful as hoped, we appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to address concerns. Guest comfort is important to us, and we are sorry this visit did not meet expectations.

Comfy, Quaint, and Quirky

The property is just as described. The queen bed is medium firm, the house is from the 1800s, and every room has an interesting angle or cubbyhole. Great location with tight but assigned off-street parking. Very quiet neighborhood just steps from a beautiful park. Drawer storage is somewhat limited, and the amount of provided supplies was somewhat less than we've fund in other VRBOs. We found no broom or mop in the apartment, for example, and the fridge was empty of even routine condiments. Minimal explanatory documentation in the binder, and John's welcome briefing was sparse. The stairs leading up to the third floor can be challenging with tricky turns. Excellent TV, book selection, and WIFI. A/C and ceiling fans were adequate but we wished for some cross ventilation and didn't find a window screen we could have used until the last day. Mystery wall switches abound. We always leave a VRBO better than we found it, and contributed a new kitchen knife and a desperately need knife sharpener to this one. In retrospect, this review sounds a bit negative, but is meant only to be helpful. All in all, this is a very nice place to stay.

Bon Appetit has written of Portland, Maine's food scene since at least 2009 when it designated our city "America's Foodiest Small Town 2009" and named Portland "2018 Restaurant City of the Year" noting it had written about our city's food scene"... more than any city except New York." Consequently, we encourage our guests (who have repeatedly thanked us) to take advantage of our fine local eateries, three of which are within a 5-10 minute walk. So, other than normal condiments which go with our breakfast coffees and teas,and a few items such as olive oil, vinegars & spices, we have not stocked the refrigerator with perishable condiments. Our stairway has two turns enroute to the 3rd floor but is not dissimilar to those of other 3-4 unit Victorian buildings. I had forgotten to return the broom to its closet at the entrance to the apartment where two" Swiffer Sweeper" wet mops are located. The several wall switches all have their purpose related to the overhead fans, lights, a/c, TV, etc. as recommended by our electrician during remodeling and, thanks to the reviewers comment, I will make special effort to explain each switch to future guests. Our informational binder includes many phamphlets , tour descriptions and maps on the information table. We make a point of greeting each guest upon arrival, giving directions, describing local sites and viewing the apartment. We live on the property and are available throughout vacationers visits. We always appreciate our guests comments and will increase our effort at providing our guests the 5 star experience they expect.

Great location, charming house

My husband and I recently stayed here for 3 nights. First of all, John is so nice to deal with. He met us outside at arrival. I immediately felt like we were friends. He helped with luggage and gave us a great summary of things nearby, then walked us upstairs and showed us around. The place is large and you will be comfortable here. It's very clean and obvious that John cares about his home and the people who rent from him. We parked our car and never moved it for 3 1/2 days. Ask him about his complimentary bikes and helmets. You will be able to ride everywhere you want to go. Save yourself the expense of renting bikes and stay here. He also provides free laundry room and had detergent for our use (again, another money savings to you) Portland was great, this was our first visit to the City. We also took John's bikes on the Casco Ferry to Peaks Island and spent 3 or 4 hours touring the island and relaxing. Don't miss this trip! The large bathroom here appeared to be newly remodeled. There is a huge glass walk in shower and he provides great toiletries. There were no negatives about staying here, but, to give an honest review, I have a few minor suggestions, Maybe, a window shade on the living room window (the one you see from the bedroom (we had to keep the bedroom door open at night to get the cold air from the living room A/C, and because of this, the morning sun woke us up earlier than we would have like on vacation. Thank you ,Texas Travelers, for your kind 5 star review. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Camden & Bar Harbor as much as you did that in Portland. On receiving your review we traveled to Freeport's Cuddledown and replaced the pillows, something which had been on our "to do" list. We were well aware of the bright early morning sun rising out of the Atlantic and into the bedroom but had overlooked the indirect light coming in from Morning Street on the south side. Small and quaint

Small but quaint place, perfectly suited for two. No laundry on property, which I’d assumed but isn’t listed so should have known better. There are narrow stairs up to the apartment but once there, the view from the small fire escape/landing is beautiful- especially at sunrise. Great location and street parking was always easy to find (in the off season at least!)

Great location

We loved the location in this quaint historic neighborhood. Loved that it was quiet, on the water and a beautiful park, yet walking distance to a Fantastic local restaurant and bar. A cozy third floor apartment overlooking the water with old historic charm. We loved staying here. Thank you.

Charming, sunny 1-BR apartment on eastern prom

A third-floor walk-up won't be perfect for everyone, but it provides some lovely views of Casco Bay beyond the house on the corner. I'd definitely stay here again if it is available when I need it.

Sunny and charming

Sunny top floor apartment with a view of Casco Bay. Very clean. Made a comfortable home for our 4 day stay. Less than a mile walk from the Old Port or Washington Ave and only steps away from the Eastern Promenade and trail in a lovely residential neighborhood. We brought our bikes but the hosts have provided 2 bikes - and helmets- you can use. We plan to return.

Wish we could have stayed the week.

My wife and I stayed here after spending a few days in Old Port. We didn't have a car during most of our time in Portland as we were visiting for the week and didn't need one based on our research everything was within a short walk. This apartment is close to the hotspots (20 minute walk to old port area) while being just apart so it's still fairly quiet., The house is located on Morning street steps away from a park and with incredible views of Casco Bay. Regularly there are food trucks about a 10 minute walk away, and as we were visiting in Oct the weather was nearly perfect with streets of fallen leaves and changing colors. Some unexpected perks of this lodging were: A a gas fireplace easily controlled by thermostat, and heated floors in the bathroom. Plus nice glimpses of the ocean from several windows. The only downside is the bed is a bit firm for our comfort but we'd definitely return if it works out in our schedule.
