Just outside the center of Cornucopia, Chickadee Cove is a handcrafted log cabin wrapped in quiet Northwoods forest. Knotty pine walls, a custom wood kitchen, and a covered porch with rocking chairs set the scene for an easy, unplugged stay. The bedroom sleeps two adults; a living-room pull-out adds room for up to two kids. Full bath and all the comforts for a relaxed South Shore getaway. Pet-friendly and close to Lake Superior and Corny’s harbor. Ideal for couples or families with children.
We’re Bark Point Ventures, a local team based right here on the South Shore. We’re happy to greet you in person at check-in, or keep things low-key and contactless — your call. Either way, the moment you book you’ll get a digital guidebook link with directions, check-in details, and our favorite local picks, and a printed guidebook is waiting for you at the cabin too.
Chickadee Cove sits in a wooded lot a short walk from the restaurants & shops of Cornucopia, Wisconsin’s northernmost village and one of the most low-key, charming little harbor towns on Lake Superior’s South Shore. Wander into “Corny” for the public beach, marina, art galleries, and a small, friendly downtown — most of it an easy walk or short drive from the cabin. From here it’s a quick hop to Meyers Beach and the launch point for the Lake Superior sea caves at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore — paddle to them by kayak in summer, or walk out to them on the ice in a hard winter freeze. Herbster and our Wags & Wine dog-friendly wine shop are a short drive south; the postcard town of Bayfield and the Apostle Islands ferry dock are about 30–40 minutes east. This stretch of Bayfield County is built for slowing down — quiet beaches, agate hunting, hiking, fishing, fall color, and some of the darkest skies in the Midwest for stargazing or catching the Northern Lights.
You’ll have the full cabin to yourself — living area, bedroom, bath, kitchen, and the covered porch. Free parking is right on site.
Chickadee Cove is a genuine log cabin, built and finished by hand, sitting on a quiet wooded lot at the edge of Cornucopia — the small Lake Superior harbor town locals call “Corny.” It’s single-level, simply laid out, and warm in every sense: honey-toned knotty pine on every wall, a metal roof overhead, and a long covered porch out front made for rocking chairs and morning coffee.
The living area Step inside to an open, wood-lined living room with a comfortable sofa, an armchair, a smart TV, and French doors that bring in the forest light. It’s an easy room to settle into after a day on the water or the trail — board games are on hand for a low-key night in.
The kitchen A real, full kitchen with custom hickory cabinetry, a butcher-block island, stove and oven, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster, plus cookware, dishes, and wine glasses — everything you need to cook a proper meal rather than rough it.
The bedroom One light-filled bedroom with a comfortable bed for two adults, a nightstand, and forest views through the window, plus a lock on the door for privacy.
Sleeping arrangements Chickadee Cove sleeps up to four: two adults in the bedroom, plus up to two children on the living room’s pull-out sofa. Please note the pull-out is sized and designed for kids — it’s not a comfortable or appropriately sized option for adult guests.
The bathroom. A full bath with tub/shower combo, hot water, hair dryer, fresh towels, and shower gel provided. And just outside the bathroom is a washer/dryer, perfect for longer stays.
Outside A covered front porch with seating looks out over the trees — a quiet spot to read, work, or just listen to the birds the cabin is named for. The single-level layout and gravel drive make arrival easy with luggage or gear.
The essentials Central air conditioning and heat, free on-site parking, a private entrance, board games, and basic toiletries and cleaning supplies are all provided. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, a fire extinguisher, and a first-aid kit are on hand. Pet-friendly. Bringing the dog? Chickadee Cove welcomes dogs —we welcome up to two canine guests.
A car is the best way to explore the South Shore, though Cornucopia’s small downtown is close enough to walk or bike to from the cabin. The Meyers Beach sea caves are roughly 5 minutes away, Bayfield about 20 minutes, and Duluth/Superior and the regional airport around 1.5 hours west.
