The apartment is well situated in the typical traditional neighborhood of Alfama, the oldest quarter of Lisbon, and probably the most authentic. Of Arab origin, its name means “fountains”. Alfama, is Lisbon’s most emblematic quarter and one of the most rewarding for walkers and photographers, thanks to its medieval alleys and outstanding views.
Because its foundation is dense bedrock, it survived the 1755 earthquake, and a walk through this old-fashioned residential neighborhood is now a step back in time. It is a village within a city still made up of narrow streets, tiny squares, churches, and whitewashed houses with tile panels and wrought-iron balconies adorned with pots of flowers, drying laundry, and caged birds.
It was settled by the Romans and Visigoths (it was also an important Jewish quarter in the 15th century), but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (Alfama means springs or bath, a reference to the hot springs found in the area). They were also responsible for its web of streets created as a defense system, while at the same time enabling their homes to remain cool in the summer. This neighbourhood has influenced poets and novelists, and although Bairro Alto is the city’s traditional Fado quarter, it is Alfama that has always been the inspiration for Fado songs, and is becoming just as popular with Fado Houses.

The guests will have access to the entire apartment. The bedroom, Living room, Kitchen and Bathroom, are available for your stay. We will prepare everything to make you feel like home. It has everything you may need for your stay, such as, free wifi, cable TV, microwave, fridge, freezer, toaster, espresso coffee machine, dish washer, etc. Bed linen and towels, are also provided.

Close to the beautiful apartment, you will have access to all the transports such as subway (7min from the apartment), ferry to the other side of the River (15min), Tram 28 (5min) etc...

- During the month of JUNE, Lisbon celebrates with street parties in Alfama (particularly the 12,13, 14 June). These last until 2am from thursdays to sundays and the streets are filled with stalls selling Grilled Sardines, Sangria, Wine & Beer.

If you like a good street party where you can feel the traditional atmosphere of this important celebrations, this is really the best place to be. If you are looking for a quite holiday this is not the place to stay during this period.

- Check-in between 21h00 and 23h00 has a fee of 20€. Between 23h00 and 01h00 the fee is 30€.

- During the month of June, Lisbon hosts popular festivals. There will be many events with music, dancing and food in the streets. The festival will be especially popular in our neighborhood between the 8th and 20th of June.
