Thank goodness we rented this property while on Lubbers. We happened to visit during the earliest tropical storm on record, and as such, the power was out for much of our stay on the islands. I'm not sure the listing even speaks to this much, but having a home with a HUGE generator is a big plus anywhere in the Abacos - because the electrical situation is sketchy on all the keys. It was so great to keep the house fully air-conditioned and operate normally (yes we used TVs, cooked in, played games) without worrying about power. My friends had rented a house down the street on Lubbers, and with no generator, spent all the time with us at Gone Bananas.
Other amazing things - The pictures of the property don't do it justice. When I booked the property, I thought it was a "nice cottage". Well, it's not. It's actually a beautifully crafted villa. Dimmed and recessed lighting, beautiful furniture, an amazing kitchen, great outdoor deck with ceiling fans and perfect furniture to hang out, lots of games, movies, super comfortable beds, etc. Gas grill a great plus. Filtered water and ice maker- huge plus!
Private dock - I also don't think that the listing mentions this, but they have a private dock at the marina. We didn't use it because we kept the boat off our friends dock, but the marina would have been nice - no worrying about wind direction and how securely your docked when tucked away in the small harbour.
Best owners - honestly I've always been a little leary when I hear that the owners "live nearby". I guess I really like my privacy, so that's why I've never been a bed-n-breakfast type girl. Patti and David live on Lubbers. And they are amazing. I probably would have never met them had I not needed their help - they aren't intrusive in the least bit. But when the weather was super sketchy and my husband and I needed to take our small rental boat over to Marsh Harbour to pick up our friends, I was concerned. I contacted David just to get his thoughts about the weather - since I'm from Phoenix (boat owner) but not used to 3 ft seas. Anyway, David was so great - he actually took us over to get our friends in his nice big boat (with dry cabin). Then they filled us on stuff we'd never know - like where we were guaranteed to catch grouper/snapper (we did and the kids loved it), and where to swim. And where the fisherman lives to see sharks. Having a golf cart is also a SUPER FUN. Everything was amazing!
