Lovely location, but a few things to know before booking. Valle d'Itria is stunning and the trullo itself is a real treat to stay in. Pool is lovely with a good deep end, geckos on the walls at night are a nice touch, and the host (nice chap, grows veg for guests) was responsive. About 8 mins from Castellana Grotte, 25-30 mins to Alberobello, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, and an hour to Matera (loved it).If you plan to cook rather than eat out, be aware: kitchens are poorly equipped, outdoor hob ignition doesn't work (need a lighter), and the only pans we found under the sink were filthy/abused by past guests (host removed one, left two). Indoor hob in the extended apartment has no socket and seemingly no gas, unusable.Property needs some TLC: fridge door off its hinges, other cupboards scrape and need lifting, wall sockets coming loose (fine with kids, but noted), gate remote broken (use key instead), cracked door glass, and a messy area round the back with bits dumped out of sight. Seating area looks great in photos but is tiny and dusty in reality with weeds aplenty.Access lanes are single-track with stone walls either side, fine for an SUV but quiet and narrow. It's genuinely remote, don't expect to walk to a restaurant; Castellana Grotte itself was a bit disappointing for food.Still recommend it for a self-catering, drive-everywhere rural retreat. Not for those wanting a walkable Italian town experience.
