I've stayed at Castillo del Rey twice: once with a group of six and once with a smaller group. Both consisted of divers and we found the villa perfect for our needs.
The villa looks exactly like the photos. It's huge; there's plenty of room for even a large group to spread out. Chairs, sofas, tables, and stools are everywhere, making it easy to hang out or work on laptops by the kitchen, dining room, or two living rooms.
The kitchen is huge and well-stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and silverware. We had every appliance we needed and then some. The refrigerator and microwave were new this year and everything is in working order.
Two purified water dispensers are provided - one in the kitchen and one in the master bedroom - as well as five-gallon water bottles. The villa has a new DSL modem and you can get get a wi-fi signal throughout the house, though it's not terribly strong upstairs. Air conditioning is good and controlled individually in each bedroom and as a single zone in the common area. At least two of the bedrooms had new split units this year. We always tried to turn the A/C off when we left for the day, given the cost of energy on the island. Getting hot water from some fixtures requires a fairly significant wait while the water runs. I wound up taking quick, cooler showers just because it isn't that important to me after a hot day.
The gardens and pool are beautiful. It's rare to have such a large pool all to yourself - and it's full depth, not just a wading pool.
The housekeeping staff deserves recognition. Our usual housekeeper, Esperanza, is cheerful and goes above and beyond keeping the villa clean, and the groundskeepers make sure the outside area tidy. Please make sure to leave a tip to show your appreciation for their hard work. Victor and the management staff are extremely communicative and will quickly answer any questions you have. After settling in, I texted Victor several times - for keys, extra water, and wi-fi questions - and he was always quick to answer.
The best part of the villa, IMO, is the location. There aren't a whole lot of villas, especially large ones, right in the central part of town. It may not be for everyone, but it was for us. Nothing like waking up to the roosters and being just a few blocks from the plaza, our dive shop, stores, and restaurants, and with friendly neighbors. Of course you're not on the ocean, but that wasn't on our priority lost.
In short, a super villa in a great location.
