When we bought the house, it was in large part because we thought it was such a great location, and because it was one of the few homes on Lewes Beach with a big back yard, plus the front porch, where we too like to sit back and people watch, or chat with vacationers staying nearby. We hope you'll be returning next year - keep in mind our Frequent Vacationer discount for repeat renters! Just ask before making the reservation and we will adjust your quote. Guest demanded a full refund AFTER her family had stayed at the house all week without a peep from them. Again, had stayed at house all week - not a word from them. This review was in retaliation for VRBO telling them nothing had happened that would warrant any sort of refund. Guest may have had underlaying issues which impacted their behavior and care of home.

We like how you mention the Dairy Queen, one of our favorite late-night go-to spots, particularly in the hot summer months (and only 2 blocks!). Thank you for the very nice review. Your group was great and we hope to see you again!

We're so glad you and your family had a fun week at The Hula House, enjoying the amenities, comfort and convenience to things important for a beach vacation - namely, the beach and ice cream! The majority of beach rental homes in Lewes are located on either Cedar or Savannah, providing easy access to the water and into town. For folks who want the convenience that our house allows, but may be sensitive to the sounds of a normal outgoing tourist community, we provide sound machines, including the option to fall asleep to the sounds of waves! You are right about the house's age - it was built in 1907! The house has had a pretty complete remodel in 2017 - new windows and doors, new paint/shutters, new heating system, new window A/C units, new deck/fence/driveway./outdoor shower, new beds and mattresses, new fridge/range, new flooring and fixtures in both bathrooms. As to your mention of our decor --- much of the art in our home authentically represents the attire that Hawaiian men and women wore before the American missionaries visited in the early 1800s and - uncomfortable with a culture that did not align with their own - attempted to change part of the native Hawaiians by directing them as to how they felt another culture "should" dress. Dancing topless for both men and women was natural —the men wore loincloths and the women wore skirts made of bark cloth. Beyond that, our house is decorated in a fun, retro style, with 1950s hula and bathing beauty pin-up art strategically placed throughout. Pin-up of the 1950s is pretty lightweight stuff, and it likely it would take a pretty savvy "toddler" to give anything a second glance, although maybe an immature young teen might snicker :). All is in good taste, and widely appreciated as part of what makes our home so unique compared to others with more of a "vanilla" flavor. If you decide to visit again next summer, please remind us of your stay this year, so that you can take advantage of our repeat renter discount!
