Nice stay - just 2 items the management company might consider

We enjoyed our stay very much. It was close to where my granddaughter and her partner live so the proximity was very helpful. The unit was clean and well stocked and had plenty of room to easily accommodate my son, my adult grandson and me, as well as visitors who dropped by during our stay. All communication with the owner and the management company was clear and helpful including the guides. There were only two concerns we experienced during our stay. One was that the back door locked upon being closed from the outside and required an access code to re-enter. We requested the access code for the back door from the management company and were told that they preferred us to enter via the front door. The problem was that if you go out the back door to the patio, you can’t get back in because the gate to leave the backyard (in order to re-enter through the front door) is locked. We were glad that someone had stayed in the house and was able to open the door from the inside, which prevented us from being locked out the first time we went outside. Whenever we accessed the backyard after that we were required to leave the door ajar in order to re-enter. The other concern is that the thermostat was locked at 68 degrees. This may have been OK had the temperatures outside stayed relatively warm but with the cooler temperatures accompanying the snow the house was quite chilly. In fact I wore 3 layers of clothing during our 5 day stay.

Not what I expected

The property seemed a lot better online. Every bed was uncomfortable and hard to sleep on. The queen was squeeky and not the greatest. The king felt like it was sinking in all night long. Not enjoyable at all for a vacation rental. The sofa bed was extremely hard to put in and out. We went to go grab the mattress cushion in the closet and found a HUGE roach on it. After that, I was ready to leave. The neighbors have a rooster that would nonstop go off throughout the day and early morning. Parking wasn't the greatest but we just parked on the street and it was fine. We barely understood how to use the thermostat and I called to see if we could get some help but no answer. It was set to a heat setting... It's 90 degrees outside. The bathroom wasn't the cleanest either. Honestly, not worth it. The instructions before leaving were even more head-scratching. Asking us to do this and that, even after paying a cleaning fee? Did not make sense to us.

Sketchy Neighborhood

The one good thing about the Matador B is that the pictures do look like the house in real life. The interior wasn't bad. My complaint about the inside was the dust level, especially in the closets. There were clouds of dust on the closet floors which makes you wonder how clean the house really is. My main gripe about this place is the neighborhood. I was very hesitant to even stay there as was worried about our personal safety and our vehicle. There were no parking spaces for us on Saturday. There were 3 cars already parked in the driveway from unit A. There are cars parked all along the street. I emailed management and was advised to park on the grass. I contemplated just getting a hotel and forfeiting the money already spent. I would never stay here again.

Hidden Treasure Stay in Austin

Conveniently located about 15 minutes or less from everything my group and I wanted to do in the city. Property is clean and identical to photos. We enjoyed our house as much as we enjoyed our trip as a whole! Ames and Camille were timely and accommodating when replying to messages.

Good value

This location is not much to look at from the outside but has a very nice, clean, comfortable and well designed interior. The neighborhood itself is transitional but close to the South Congress area of shops and restaurants and fairly close to downtown. It’s a good value.

Cute design and space however, not the best option. 1) check in and out are solely for the owner; you can check in anytime they see fit AFTER 3pm (which is not what says when you are booking) but must be out at exactly 11am or they threaten to immediately charge you another night. They also email to see if you will leave early so then can “clean” 2) this location has a strong and rank body odor smell that they acknowledge with “sorry, we don’t smell it” and don’t offer to fix 3) couch is stained and a strong contributor to the rank body odor smell; had to use a sheet to use 4) kitchen floor had such a large sticky spot it nearly took my sock off which takes me back to statement 1 “clean”??? 5) dirty washcloth hanging on hook in bathroom for our arrival 6) no cleaners for our use, due to above mentioned we went and got cleaners and cleaned at our expense and time 7) listed as with washer and dryer; very misleading as it is not within the unit but attainable with lock box key under kitchen sink and to the left of their other unit (A) in a locked garage. Really? When questioned this piece told it was in House Manual. No manual in listing and online listing does not mention that either 8) they do provide a coffee pot but no coffee; fine just be clear in your listing - another trip to the store 9) secondary bedroom mattress sits on top a plastic base which makes any movement very loud and comes with a crusty stain on the comforter offered 10) heavy police presence at night just a door away 11) booked through AirBNB and as they advised all communication for our safety should be used through it but owners seemed confused that we were following that; codes didn’t match to access this unit had to reach out again 12) finally, stresses how much cleaning they do and this is the most distressing. The bed sheets were changed & trash was taken out (which you have to do or they charge you for their time to clean) but that’s it. I believe we are due cleaning refund
