We (3 experienced adult travellers) used the villa for a week in July 2018. The villa was everything it was advertised to be: clean, modern, spacious (both indoors and outdoors) and functional. It could not be faulted. It was very quiet although we went off-season. Wonderful views and beautiful flowers and trees. The large outdoor space provides great spots to relax in the shade with sumptuous vistas. Inside, the Air-Con was invaluable as temperatures didn’t drop below 26. Note there is no air-con in the 2nd bedroom, just a ceiling fan. The owner was very attentive throughout the entire rental process and prompt in answering any queries. For example, the wifi code we were given was incorrect but that was soon resolved.
Two issues from the villa contract to emphasise: a) the apartment is very difficult to find, Sat Nav and detailed Google maps were of little use. We found the village, parked our car and walked around until we spotted it. If you’re arriving late you’ll struggle to find it in the dark without assistance. The owner does provide a guide (for a fee) to take you from the airport to the accommodation. Also note the very steep and narrow road to the villa and its parking space. b) small children will need to be supervised closely, there are slippy stone stairs, low walls over big drops and the deep swimming pool is unguarded. If you are eating by the pool of an evening, watch out for insect bites if you are susceptible.
The villa is in a great location to explore large parts of Crete. However, the roads and signs are generally poor so you will need your wits about you. Note that Heraklion is 70 min away and Chania 90min away IF you follow the speed limits. There are good beaches just east of Rethymno about 15 min away by car. Petrol stations are everywhere. Rethymno itself is a large and bustling town and well worth a visit. Around the villa itself there are several good tavernas and supermarkets, for example Pigi which is a 5min car drive, once you know the route. We tended to eat at these local tavernas as the food was good and inexpensive as it was wherever we went (£5 would usually get you a good meal).
In conclusion, we would have absolutely no qualms in renting the villa for a future holiday.
