Lovely location and great property management

The management company is great and the location of the home is fantastic. You can easily walk to markets, restaurants, vineyards, etc. It’s a very quick ride (20-30 minutes) to both Verona and Lake Garda. Having a car in this location is necessary as there isn’t a ton to do in the actual town and you won’t want to miss out on the surrounding areas. The house itself has major potential but it’s in need of work. A number of the showers had issues and couldn’t be used during our stay. The furnishings are basic (IKEA sofa and average, at best, beds). We love to cook when we are in Italy and we were disappointed that there was no outdoor grill and that the kitchen was stocked with very basic ikea items. The coffee maker didn’t even work properly. I’d highly recommend bringing bug spray for the summer months. The flies overtook the kitchen (they can get in through old windows and doors). The home also no longer offers bikes (they were on the listing when we booked), so we had to rent them. I’d highly recommend renting them if possible.

More than we imagined!

The history and beauty of this property is something to write home about. We entered through the gate with awe - is this really where we get to stay!! Lodo is truly a man of peace and his authentic joy for hospitality and the preservation of this home comes through in all he does. The bedrooms are significantly large and our group enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and playing music under the trees outside with the vineyards in view! Ask Lodo to see the church on the property! It’s the oldest in the city - right there on site. Highly recommend!

Birthday weekend

We had a fabulous long weekend at Villa san Bonifacio to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. The house is fantastic and we were 23 for two of the nights and there was plenty of room and the house is well heated and very comfortable and no shortage of hot water too! We were very well looked after by Lodovico (who was there to greet us when we arrived) with food catered by the wonderful Joyce and her team. Lodovico was incredibly helpful, even recommending a fabulous nearby winery where we bought our wine after an excellent wine tasting. Would not hesitate to recommend staying here and we try much hope and expect to return!

Fairytale stay, this property is magical!

I don’t know where to start. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Lodovico and the lovely Joyce. We booked out both properties, the GateKeepers House and the main property. There were 23 of us all together over the two properties. We stayed for 6 days and had our wedding at the villa on the 4th day. It was beyond a dream, I can’t express via just a simple review online how beautiful this property is. The beautiful bedrooms, dining room, lounge room, garden, pool... I could go on. We all collectively felt that everyday we were living in a dream land. Like we were royalty and had stepped back in time to another era. Lodovico and Joyce greeted us on the first day and were so kind and welcoming and told us about the town, they even suggested a great restaurant just up the road for dinner for everyone on the first night. My husband and I have said numerous times since we left the villa that we will be going back there again with our families and make it a yearly place we all come together at. There is so much to explore in the house and the grounds that you will never find yourself bored. Everything is divine. Thanks again to our wonderful hosts Lodovico and Joyce. You made our trip amazing and we feel like our wedding and stay with you will be talked about for a life time! Love from the whole group of us here in Australia ♥️ Megan and Chris

STELLAR VILLA IN A GREAT LOCATION

We had been planning a family/friends holiday trip to Italy for several years. We booked this incredible villa for two weeks and had an absolute blast. The owner, Lodovico, is exceptional. Joyce, who looks after the house and guests, is wonderful as well. She helped us out with planning trips, local hints, etc. Thank you all for a great vacation. The little village of San Pietro in Cariano is about a twenty minute drive from Verona. We had a rental car for about half the time. Cabs are about 40 euro each way. There is a bus that drops you in Verona which costs a couple of euro. That is about a ten minute walk from the front gate. Tickets can be purchased at the tabacchi by the bus stop. The kitchen in the villa is great for cooking. We cooked often. If you do happen to be there for the New Year, all of the wineries (which surround the property) and the village itself set of a sizable fireworks display. Tours to Garda are reasonable and you can get to the northern tip of the lake in a little over an hour. Worth it. Bologna is about an hour and a half driving. Vans with a driver can be rented to drive you to Florence for the day. Milan and Venice are trips that can be done in a day. These are a few examples of things we did while there. There is a lot more that we didn't get to do. We had people coming and going but 16-18 seemed to fill the place up pretty well. The pictures really don't do this Medieval villa justice, it's something that needs to be experienced. Ping-pong and board games and parties at the house were some of the best memories of the trip. Enjoy and book well in advance - it seems to fill up.

Amazing villa

We stayed at Villa San Bonifacio for a week at the beginning of July. We rented the villa for ourselves and 14 members of our family for our wedding on Lake Garda. Lodovico and Joyce were nothing but helpful since our first communication through to when we left. Nothing was too much trouble and even helped us with our wedding arrangements and even on our wedding day when we required some last minute travel arrangements. They were always on hand to help or to answer any questions we had. The villa itself was more than we could have hoped for and worked perfectly for our family which ranged from a 6 month old baby to grandparents. The rooms were beautifully decorated and well maintained with all modern amenities. The grounds were breathtaking and were enjoyed by all, from the swimming pool, badminton net and table tennis to the communal seating areas. The villa was ideally located for us to explore Lake Garda in our rental car and close to amenities with a convenience store and pizzeria on the doorstep. One evening we went to a local restaurant, Locanda Dal Nane, walking distance away from the villa, the food was excellent and the staff were very passionate and knowledgeable. Everyone was sad to leave and we will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you again to Lodovico and Joyce for all their help and making our wedding and holiday with our family all we had hoped for and more. We cannot recommend Villa San Bonifacio enough. Zoe and Neil

Absolutely wonderful!

Our extended family of 19, ranging in age from almost 2 to, well, let's just say "grandparents," had an amazing week at Villa San Bonifacio in Valpolicella. I chose this place because it had enough rooms for all of us. Only after arriving did we realize what a gem we had found. Several excellent wineries are in easy walking distance and the grounds are delightful and perfectly suited for familes, with ping pong, badminton, swings, and a pool in season. Our more ambitious family members relished runs through the surrounding countryside. Inside, we enjoyed the piano, foosball and a big table for jigsaw puzzles. Inside and out were numerous comfortable seats, couches and lounges to relax and enjoy each other's company. We had fun cooking our meals and sharing them in the large dining room, but there is also an exquisite restaurant just behind the church, up the road. A well stocked grocery store is within reasonable walking distance. Lodovico and the property manager, Joyce, spoke excellent English and were very helpful in many ways. We truly had a family reunion to remember.

This was the perfect home for a weekend family reunion

This beautifully restored 16th century villa offered us the perfect hub for a long weekend in the Valpolicella area. Ideally located to explore Verona, lake Garda, the mountains and the vineyards. More importantly a house and garden to dream of with plenty of space for a large family, extraordinary bed rooms with private bath rooms, as well as large and long tables inside and outside in support of home cooking, pasta making and Italian family style dining with lots of pasta, prosciutto, cheese, fresh bread, and obviously local wines. our entire family gave this place a big thumbs up. Wunderbare Villa in einer superschönen Gegend

Wir waren im Juli 2017 mit 13 Personen für eine Woche in der Villa Serenella. Empfang und Einweisung durch den Inhaber, Signore Lodovico di San Bonifacio, war professionell und umfassend. Die Villa ist umfassend ausgestattet, die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und vor allem sehr groß. Überall im Haus gibt es Klimaanlagen und WiFi-Empfang. Die Küche ist umfassend ausgestattet, so dass insgesamt keine Wünsche offen bleiben. Der Pool im Garten ist wie die gesamte Anlage sehr sauber und gepflegt. Die Vor-Ort-Betreuung durch Joyce und ihren Schwiegervater, der übrigens jeden Tag den Pool reinigt und den Müll entsorgt, ist super. Wir können die Villa uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

Perfect 10 Days in San Pietro in Cariano

We enjoyed every moment of our 10 day stay at Villa San Bonifacio in Serenella. It is a large space with generous bedroom suites, updated bathrooms, and a wonderful garden space, inside the envelope of an historic estate. Our family enjoyed day trips into Verona, Lake Garda, and to the waterfalls of Molina. We visited the Brunelli Winery nearby, walked to restaurants in the neighborhood, and visited the church up the street. We couldn't have been happier! We hope to return!

Everything was just perfect

Fantastische Erholung

Ein wunderschönes, großes, altes Haus mit liebevoll restaurierten Zimmern und jede Menge Platz im hauseigenen, sehr gepflegten Park und eigenem Pool. Dazu ein unglaublich aufmerksamer Besitzer, der alles versucht, seinen Gästen den Aufenthalt besonders angenehm zu gestalten. Das Haus liegt sehr ruhig, aber dennoch nicht weit abseits des Ortszentrums in dem man alle Dinge des täglichen Bedarfs kaufen und Essen gehen kann. Direkt Vis a vis zum Grundstückseingang ist außerdem ein Tante-Emma-Laden, in dem man sich noch mit Kleinigkeiten versorgen kann. Außerdem bot uns der Besitzer die Möglichkeit einen Koch eigens ins Haus kommen zu lassen, der ein wunderbar schmeckendes Dinner kreierte und das zu einem absolut annehmbaren Preis. Alle Gäste waren vom Aufenthalt begeistert. Definitiv eine Empfehlung. One more time, thanks a lot to Ludovico. We enjoyed the staying very much.

An Entirely Fabulous Experience!

Staying at La Serenella is like going back in time, in the best possible sense. The villa is gorgeous, and the gatehouse, while the rooms are a bit more modern, is very beautiful as well. The rooms were clean and well-appointed. We asked to have a local chef come and prepare dinner for us one night in order to take advantage of the beautiful formal dining room, and the person that was recommended to us provided a fantastic meal for a very reasonable price. Our host was enormously gracious. The town is charming, and the accessibility to both relaxing days at the lake and touring nearby towns and cities was wonderful. I couldn't possibly recommend a stay at La Serenella more highly.

beautifull time in the villa

we arrived to the villa in the evening (14 people) after a long and tiring journey and lodovico that greeted us pleasantly helped us getting arranged with food in the supermarket and even helped us order pizza.. the house and the rooms were so well charactered and exciting. the garden beautiful and calm. lodovico was kind and helpful all through our 1 week stay and even our children still remember and miss him.. the surroundings of the villa were just perfect, jogging between the wine fields in the mornings and drinking the local wine in the evenings. the kitchen is well equipped and there is a washing machine we could use. the sanitary needed a little bit of repair in one of the bathrooms but other than that it was a perfect vacation.

Amazing villa and an incredible stay

We has the most amazing stay at Villa Serenella. The villa is beautiful with a wonderful unique character. We stayed here for a week for our wedding on Lake Garda, and held the reception at Villa Serenella. We were so well taken care of, Joyce was amazing, nothing was ever too much trouble from organising transport to the wedding for our guests to arranging a hog roast for the evening. The owner Lodovico was also fantastic, even going as far as setting up the BBQ at 2am! I can't put into words how wonderful and helpful they both were and how truly special they made the entire stay. We will definitely be visiting Villa Serenella again in the future. The setting and the property were just incredible, every room was completely unique, the gardens were beautiful and it created the perfect setting for our wedding. Everything about the stay was perfect and we can't wait to go back! Again a big thanks to both Joyce and Lodovico Amanda and Paul (the Marchants!)

Traumurlaub

Wir möchten dem sehr sympathischen, fürsorglichen Vermieter Lodovico dafür danken, dass wir 10 wunderschöne Tage in seiner Villa verbringen durften. Wir fühlten uns in dem geräumigen Haus sehr wohl und haben die besondere Atmosphäre sehr genossen. Auch der große, hauseigene Park mit Pool hat dazu beigetragen, dass wir den Urlaub mit unseren 5 Kindern entspannt genießen konnten. Lieber Lodovico, vielen Dank für die außergewöhnlich schönen Urlaubstage! Bis zum nächsten Jahr....

Great place to enjoy great holidays

From the first contact with the owner until the arrival back at home the customer service was perfect (using Mail and phone). The owner was there when we arrived to show us everything and gave us his phone number in case of any problems (which we didn't have...). He really was very helpful, friendly and reliable. The description on the homepage matched exactly the reality. The great park offers lots of opportunities to relax, the villa is really venerably and offers all you need. We've ben there with 3 families (13 Persons) and had more than enough place for everybody in the historic rooms. Most of the time we spent outside under the big sunshade or in the pool nearby. The kitchen is fully equiped, you find everything you need, including a dish washer. Everything was nice and clean. The location is near to Verona (about 20 Minutes) and Lake Garda. In Verona you should visit a performance in the arena, it's a great event! We recommend this place for groups, who want to recreate in an wonderful undisturbed area. Tanks very much to Lodovico! A convention has been stipulated by the owner with a local catering organization providing lunches or dinners on request at convenient prices. Additional maid service is available upon request. Five mountain bikes are at free disposal for guests.

HISTORY OF THE Villa Conte di San Bonifacio:
Planned and built in the 15th Century by Architect Andrea Palladio and originally named Villa Acquistapace, or the Villa's illustrious former owners include the Floriani family, who left their testament on a beautiful acquaforte dated 1744, that depicts the Villa with the description 'view of the Floriani brothers' Palace in S.Pietro in Cariano in Valpolicella'. On the death of Pietro Floriani Sbatacchia in 1871, the Villa was inherited by Francesco Ferrari and remained in the Ferrari family throughout the 19th Century. Today the Villa is known as La Serenella and has its main entrance in S.Guiseppe Square.Today the property owners are the Aristocratic Family of Conti di San Bonifacio.
ACCESS TO THE VILLA :
The access to the villa is through the main entrance with a magnificent gate, that resembles those in The Arche Scaligere in Verona; on the left you can spot the little villetta of the guardian in liberty style, and on the right the Chapel entitled to S.Giuseppe, the shovel on the altar inside the chapel represents a sacred family with S.Francesco d'Assisi. The beautiful internal sealing was all painted, probably in the 17th century, with four scenes of angelic concerts. You get to the palace walking through an amazing pathway surrounded by ancient trees like Italian traditional garden, signed by many classic statues.
