This is a beautiful home within the perfect walking distance to Leland. The house perfectly accommodated our party of eight adult women (however, I recommend carpooling as the driveway is on the smaller side). I would not recommend this house for families with young children, as there is virtually no outdoor space to play.
With that said, the management of this house is not worth the asking price. If I had seen the owner's rules prior to booking, I would not have booked. They need a complete rewrite. I respect rules. This is your home, and I am merely a guest. However, the rules were condescending and included far too much personal commentary. Multiple times, they referenced losing my security deposit, including full paragraphs in all-caps. They even let me know there are "spies" in the neighborhood, on guard to report my behavior. This made for an extremely paranoid and uncomfortable stay on behalf of our entire party, with the blinds closed for the duration of our stay.
Additionally, the home was not cleaned properly prior to our arrival. Undoubtedly, we left the home cleaner than when we arrived because of the items we had to clean just to feel comfortable. Some examples include:
1. Dirty kitchen sponges
2. Dirty refrigerator & freezer
3. Ratty dish towels
4. Dirty dishes in dishwasher
5. Black, coarse hair in silverware drawer
6. Leaking Damprid bag in Master Closet
7. Disgusting bathroom fans
8. Outdoor patio that hadn't been swept/cleaned in quite some time
Furthermore, the owner's rules state that each bathroom will be stocked with two rolls of toilet paper, and the kitchen will be stocked with one roll of paper towel. Upon arrival, only 1.5 rolls of toilet paper were provided for all three bathrooms, and no paper towel was provided. When I called the owner, i was polity, acting confused instead of upset. I am an adult woman, and the owner had the audacity to ask me if I was sure, and if I had checked the cabinets. After a conversation that was far too long for a simple issue, the owner was gracious enough to provide access to his locked owner's cabinet for paper products. I did appreciate this level of blind trust.
It was my impression that the property owners live out of state, and there is very little oversight of the on-site management. Perhaps that is why there were so many unacceptable slips. However, when I return to Leland, I will select a different home.
