Mara was a wonderful host that met us to show us our home away from home. Super clean and sparkly. Outdoor patio viewing the lake was beautiful and the moon light was glistening off the lake was a welcome treat.Close walkable market perfect for picnic, pizza with outdoor patio over cliff with a stellar 180 degree lake view is a must stop. The little beach accessible by stone stairs was a lovely little view point and worth the time to explore. Thanks Mara for a perfect visit!

Beginning of a 20 day trip to Italy.

Mara was an exceptional host. She met us at the rental, showed us the unit and gave us advice about the area. I would highly recommend Casa Mara.

Perfect family apartment in beautiful location

A lovely apartment by Lake Como. Lots of room, everything you need, including ceiling fans in every room to keep cool! We stayed with our young children and they loved the space too. Mara is a wonderful host, very friendly and helpful. Parking is convenient and right outside, a couple of options for mini markets and bars/restaurants within walking distance and slightly larger villages nearby with more options. We only stayed for a couple of days but would definitely return for longer.

Lovely spacious apartment

Just back from a wonderful four days in this lovely, spotlessly clean apartment. Great views from the balcony and good location. Our only regret was that our trip was so short, we will be back!

Lovely stay in Pognana Lario.

Spacious apartment with a lovely view of the lake. Loved Mara, what a gracious hostess. Recommend Peppo's - great family owned restaurant with a nice view of the lake. Travel the road between Como and Bellagio at your own risk.

as for the road, I would say that it is a characteristic of the area. we do it abitually every day, certainly for those used to the super roads, this can be scary but characteristic

Best place ever

No review could do justice to how amazing Casa di Mara is. Lake Como is heaven on Earth and Mara is the perfect host! The property is even better than the pictures and the view is more beautiful than you could believe. Mara was an absolute pleasure to work with as she went above and beyond what you expect from a VRBO host. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend anyone planning a trip to Europe to stay at Casa di Mara!

Lovely apartment, very clean and spacious.

Easy transfer by ferry, a short walk and many steps away and bus. You can get to any part of the lake easily from here. Mara very helpful. Everything we needed in the kitchen to cook. A couple of great local bars but not much else locally.

Casa Mara for the win!

My family has stayed in alot of vacation rentals over the years and this was the best one yet. Mara met us the minute we arrived and guided me into our parking spot. She is so friendly and informative. The home was spotlessly clean, large and had everything we needed. The views were so beautiful. Bellagio was a short 20 minute drive and from there the car ferry took us across to each side of the lake. Wish we had more time to stay. Thanks Mara! Pognana Lario Oasis

Mara was great, and went over and above making sure we got settled and enjoyed ourselves in the Lake Como area. Her home is about half way between Como and Bellagio. Bus and ferry stops are near by, as are a couple of restaurants and markets. Her place occupies the second floor above street level, and is spacious and well equipped. Perfect for couples and families alike. The sun deck is a good place to hang and watch the world go by. Thank you Mara for being such a wonderful hostess. Ciao!

Outstanding stay!

In the middle of a very quiet town on the edge of Lake Como lies a wonderful property - spacious, quaint, and very reasonably priced. If you’re looking for something not in the middle of the touristy part of the Lake Como region, this is the place for you. Mara is a wonderful host - friendly, communicative, and willing to ensure that you have a wonderful experience in her flat. While you can certainly get to the key destinations via boat (you’ll get your steps in) or bus, having a car (with a complimentary parking space!) was a plus - we were able to go to one of Mara’s favorite restaurants - itipitipici - every night, and had some of the best food that we’ve ever had. Looking very forward to returning in the future.

Walk up across from Clooney’s

It was very hot, humid and smoky during our 4 night stay. One nice bedroom for a couple. The second has no window and is designed for kids. Bathroom is very nice. Kitchen was very hot and had an odor. Location about half way between Bellagio and Como. Best to have a car or use the bus. Water boats too few and far between. The owner was very welcoming.

Wonderful stay with a perfect view

Mara welcomed us in a private parking spot (VERY important in this area) with a happy smile and a lot of helpful tips (turned out there is a special gniocchi festival on August 18th!) to a very specious and equipped apartment with a very big terrace overlooking the lake! All the beds were freshly made and the atmosphere in the house was wonderful. A short walk from the apartment (281 stairs, we counted!) you’ll reach a great spot to enter lake Como, with grass and a bench, where you will join the locals for a dive to the cold and refreshing water. The location is great - a short drive to Como and Bellagio , but staying away from the crowds. The only disadvantage was the proximity to the road but there was not a lot of traffic at night. We highly recommend this apartment and Mera as an hostess

vrbo stay in Bellagio

Mara was great!!! I was upset by the location at first. I placed Bellagio as my choice to stay and when I booked this I found out it was 30 miles away up the mountain. You had to rely on the bus and it was late many times and crowded. Some people waiting for the bus had to be turned away due to the crowds. I will be more in tune to the location next time. When I book Bellagio I expect it to be Bellagio. As I said Mara was a wonderful host and her apartment was very nice and spacious!!!!

A well-presented, spotlessly clean, modernised property.

As per the title, the accommodation was excellent. Roomy, well-equipped and immaculate, with lovely views over lake Como from the balcony and also from the kitchen/diner. The apartment fronts directly onto the road that runs through the village, and it can be quite busy at times - especially if there are events being held nearby (firework displays and the like). However, we were too busy exploring the area to be concerned by traffic noise and by the time we'd returned to our base the flow of traffic had subsided to normal levels. Mara is a wonderfully enthusiastic and helpful hostess and the people are especially friendly in the town, where there is a small supermarket 10 minutes' walk from the apartment. Although we only used this as a three-day stopover on our journey home we'd certainly return in the future, should the opportunity arise, for a more extended stay at this excellent property in a beautiful part of Italy.

Casa Mars

Wonderful week stay at Casa Mara. Mara’s son Andrea was waiting for us even though we were late as we had missed a train. He felt sorry for us as we were so frazzled that he drove us to La Meridiana for a wonderful dinner. The apartment was soooooo spacious, the kitchen well equipped and we had Salts, peppers coffee sugars olive oils and balsamic to start the week. The very large patio was perfect for wine and cheeses. We had just debarked from a two week cruise so we really appreciated the washer and washer soaps and clothes rack/dryer on patioThe apartment was right near the bus stop and so easy to buy bus tickets either at Bar Sonia or on bus. Took buses to Como , Bellagio and then the fast ferries to Varenna and Mennagio. A short walk to right we went to small grocery that had most items needed. and Bar Sonia .I will mention you need to bring your own bar soaps and shampoos Only misstep was we had the Lake tour boat let us off at Pognana Lario ferry stop and then had to walk up hundreds of Steps to get up to street level! Do not do that!!! It was a fabulous stay at a lovely apartment overlooking the lake . Cannot recommend it enough!

thank you for the kind words and for the super detailed review. my son thanks. as for the stairway from the boat to the house, as you may have noticed the villages on this side of the lake are perched above the main road. it is our characteristic that sets them apart. (no we need to go to the gym)

Gem of a Home With Amazing Views!

You might look at the low price and think maybe it's not such a good place - nothing could be further from the truth! This apartment is terrific; spacious and very nice. The views of beautiful Lake Como are just as you see in the photos. The master bedroom is filled with well cared for antique furniture. Bathroom is big and everything is clean as a whistle. We loved sitting on the terrace and just taking it all in. There were only two of us, however, there is plenty of room for a family to spread out and not be on top of one another. There are even games for the kids. Mara has thought of everything and is so friendly and helpful. She greeted us with great enthusiasm and we felt right at home immediately. And when I left behind my brand new raincoat, she let me know and shipped it to our home. That's the kind of personal, friendly service we hope for in a home stay, and Mara delivers. We loved walking to the small market nearby, and were able to purchase everything we needed to cook in the amazingly well-equipped kitchen. I wish we had that stove at our house. Having free parking right in front is a huge plus in the area, and you definitely do need a car. We look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Lake Como

The host Mara was amazingly kind and willing to help in any way possible. We arrived much later than planned due to flight delays, and Mara contacted us several times to make sure that we were ok and made us feel welcome without no sign of irritation even if she was waiting for us the whole afternoon. Once we arrived she showed us our parking place which is included with the apartment and even offered to help us with our luggages. The apartment is spotlessly clean and spacious and much better that the pictures on the booking sites. There is everything needed to cook a god meal and enjoy it on the terrace overlooking lake Como. She gave us a lot of information and tips on the surroundings and things to see / do in the lake area. The area is great as a base to discover the lake area or to just spend the days relaxing and going to the nearby beach(5 min). There are buses and boats serving the area but we had a car which is even better as it is more flexible. There are a couple of restaurants on either side of the apartment and there is even a local supermarket that has everything. It is of course much cheaper to stop by at Lidl or Aldi in Como city and do the shopping there. Overall a great host, clean, spacious and well equipped apartment with a parking place and an amazing view over the lake and we will definitely recommend it, would love to come back again.

Un séjour au top

Mara est une hôte au top : très bonne communication et une grande disponibilité. Un grand merci à Mara!! Le logement est encore mieux que sur les photos, la vue époustouflante. Bon équipement pour cuisiner. Nous étions 5 et on a eu assez de place. Je recommande vivement et nous retenons cette adresse pour notre séjour annuel au lac de Côme.

Mara ist eine tolle Gastgeberin: Freundlich, unkompliziert, hilfsbereit und nicht aufdringlich. Die Wohnung ist sehr groß, sauber, gemütlich und der Blick von der Terrasse ist spektakulär. Man kann gut mit dem Boot oder mit dem Bus nach Como und Bellagio fahren. Der Weg zur Badestelle ist stufenreich, aber gut machbar. Unten am See war es nie besonders voll. Also, alles super.
