Hakuna Matata - Orchid Beach - Fraser Island

Hakuna Matata means " No worries mate" and it is a magnificently fully serviced house situated at Orchid Beach on Fraser Island, which is family friendly that is open plan living area and features 4 bedrooms, 2 toilets.

Also we supply the gas for the house and more importantly for the BBQ at NO extra charge. Sheets only supplied - NO PILLOWS, DOONAS AND OR BLANKETS will be supplied- due to COVID19

We have four bedrooms at Hakuna Matata, 2 have queen beds, and the other 2 have three single beds in each, a total of 8 beds.

The house has two toilets, the kitchen, dinning and lounge room is one large room (open plan) as not to exclude guests while other are cooking delicious food in the fully functioning kitchen.

Outside there is a huge insulated undercover BBQ area with a table that will easily seat 12 -14 guests ( custom made by me) and a 6 burner BBQ for the budding chefs in all of us.

Did i mention there is a fire ring outside for those cooler nights or just for the romantic evenings sitting around a fire watching the flames dance.

As you can tell I am very passionate about this wonderful place as i have built it with my own two hands for my family and friends to enjoy and to us people we have not yet met or stayed with us are friends we just have not yet met.

You will feel right at home from the first time you step though the door. You, your family and friends will fondly remember the wonderful experience Fraser Island has given you with the assistance of Hakuna Matata

Property Address is 35 Marloo Avenue, Orchid Beach

The house is situated at 35 Marloo Avenue Orchid Beach.

ALL beds have innerspring mattresses, two bedrooms have queens size beds and the other two have two sets of single bunks in each room.

A large table that accommodates 12 seats inside and an out door table undercover that would easily seat 12-14 people as well.

The tariff stated is for 8 people, additional charges per night for extra person over 8 are applied

Sheets only - NO PILLOWS, DOONAS AND OR BLANKETS will be supplied- due to COVID19. Gas for the BBQ is supplied with this property, just another way of assisting you have a easy, safe and enjoyable holiday

Location Map

Hakuna Matata is now powered 24/7 by solar / battery power and as such there is NO power points available for plugging in electrical appliances brought from home. This includes but is not limited to sleep apnea machines - please make other arrangements to power such devices.

Check out time is 9am.

Also, our change over day is Sunday's, I trust that is acceptable.

Check in was easy and house was nice.Only negative feed back was there was leaves and dirt in some of the rooms upon arrival and the gas ran out and we had to change the gas bottles ourselves.However it was overall a great experience and the owner was very lovely and helpful.

Fishing Trip

Our second year running at this property. Perfect for us to base ourselves from to go fishing each day. Plenty of room to socialise and cook dinner.each day.

Anzac Day Experience

Was a wonderful 5 day stay, the house had everything we needed, was clean and comfortable. Only downside was the time you could use the washing machine. We spent most of the day out exploring, so if you could do a load of washing around 7.30 am it would of been a great with so many people in the house. Will be returning

Dads fishing trip

We stayed here for a dads fishing trip. It is perfect for a social week of fishing and sitting around the fire. The property was as described, even better. We were all really happy with the week.

Great property.

Large home with plenty of space. Great kitchen. Loved the huge dining table. Awesome bedroom configuration. Lounges weren't very comfortable but the mattresses were, which I think is more important. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Orchid Beach Family Holiday April 2024

Hakuna Matata is well positioned and easily accessible. All the amenities required for the perfect family holiday on Fraser Island. Large kitchen and dining area to accommodate the whole family, large outdoor area to enjoy an afternoon drink and watch the kids as they play on the large grassed area in the safe fenced area of Orchid Beach. Short drive to Waddy Point to watch the perfect sunrises and sunsets. We will definitely be back!

Owner and caretaker very lovely people. Care taker checked in a couple of time to ensure everything good even followed up after leaving. Others in family had issue with their accommodation at one stage and was more than happy to help them out. Thank you for the experience

Great location !

This was in a great location. House was big enough for our 3 families. Owner was great when we had to call him as we ran out of gas and had it sorted quickly. The house is basic, bathrooms are old and tired. Shower head needs replacing as it’s rusty. Shower curtains needs replacing as there were mould spots The beds were comfortable. Kitchen was functional and had everything we needed ( except for a sharp knife ) We loved the big indoor dining table and outdoor table as all of us could eat together Large fish cleaning station was great and big BBQ so we could cook all the meat at once All in all was a nice holiday

Basic accomodation but well appointed

Two families shared this property of which we fit well. Plenty of table seating inside and outside to cater 11 people. Kitchen is well appointed. This is a basic property but future guests should be prepared if staying in summer the shed home is unbearably hot so please take battery fans as sleep is impossible. Communication with owner was good. 3 lights were not working. Light bulbs were delivered for one outside light which we would have had to pull apart to replace but not the lights we needed more.. Maintenance required which would have helped our stay included - mown lawns, grass was overgrown attracting mosquitos, -fire pit was overflowing with tree branches to the point we didn’t realise it was a fire pit - undercover clothes line would have been very helpful in rain -the lounges are old and have had broken bases so are replaced with uncomfortable wooden boards to sit on - not sufficient washing detergent or toilet paper supplied for the week - no towel rails in the bathroom Overall a basic comfortable property for say a men’s fishing trip . It’s not suited to a hot summer stay without taking battery fans etc but was clean inside.

We stayed as part of a fishing group for a week - perfect spot, especially if you are looking to fish Orchid and Wathumba.House was clean, accomodating for large group for dining and entertaining both indoors and outdoors.

Comfy little Orchid beach home stay

Very reasonable accommodation, clean and tidy. Requires you to be concious around water and power usage due to having tank water and solar power only. It didn't really effect us but be sure to take a battery fan during warm weather. Location made it a little difficult to travel around the island but that was more to do with tides. We had 7 people in our crew and found it comfortable and value for money, we would probably stay a little further south next time or plan to move around the island to assist with seeing all the sites. But if you are looking to just relax and spend sometime in the one place, it would be perfect. The host Christopher replied to all our emails prior to arrival and was accommodating to our change or plans during the time leading up to the stay. Thank you Christopher, we all had a great time

Another great stay

Our 3rd time at Hakuna Matata and seems to just get better every time. We love the large open living area and kitchen (with new stove this visit) and can't wait to come back
