We had a wonderful 10-day working vacation in Ouray. Great way to escape the Texas heat! The house is amazing and the views are truly spectacular. All of the rooms are a great size for everyone to have plenty of space and the beds are comfy. Truly lovely!
Unfortunately, there were a few amenities that I felt should have been provided for a $700+/night rental. Because we were staying for 10 days, we had planned to cook "at home" most of the time. The kitchen provisions were very limited. Many of the pots and pans had the Teflon scraped off (not safe!). There were 7 plates and bowls and as many sets of cutlery. There were plenty of water and juice glasses but no wine glasses. After I requested, we had one cookie sheet, a 9x12 Pyrex and a cutting board. Prior to that, there was nothing to bake in the oven with. One small mixing bowl not big enough to mix pancakes or cookies and only one liquid measuring cup. Only one small Tupperware container yet not enough bowls or plates to store leftover food with saran wrap because we needed those to eat. Had to use a pot for making a salad as there were no serving bowls/platters. The knives really need to be sharpened, and it would be great to have a serrated knife for cutting bread/sandwiches. Obviously, I planned to wash dishes, but to have to wash after every single meal seemed unrealistic yet that was the case.
Additionally, a very limited number of towels were provided for a party of 6. We were given 6 bath towels, 6 wash cloths and 3 hand towels. No towel for wrapping up wet hair or extra hand towels. I requested additional towels but was told the owner provides a washer and dryer and will not provide additional towels. The washer and dryer were fantastic and again I certainly was not opposed to washing, but a few extra towels did not seem like an unrealistic request for a 10-day stay.
Overall, it was a great place, and I honestly would stay there again in a heartbeat. I just felt like a little effort into creating a more hospitable stay with basic amenities would have really gone a long way. Yes, I could bring all of those things if I was driving but should I really have to when I'm spending $700/night?
