Fun cosy cottage on the south side of the beautiful Ngunguru River

You'll be staying in an easy living 2 bedroom cottage on a large bush block set high on a ridgetop with 360 degrees views of the surrounding bush, the Ngunguru River and Ngunguru township. There's a 2.5km driveway down to the Ngunguru River where you'll have access to our private jetty (booking required). A beautiful wetland, stunning bush walks, high hill look outs, picnic stop along the way. Please let us know what activities your interested in so we can accommodate as jetty require booking.. Please see our house rules for bookings. If you're wanting to book within 24hrs of check in pls call us before booking. We are located half way between Whangarei CBD & Tutukaka so you're in a perfect location to explore the local area, the Ngunguru river, and the stunning Tutukaka coast and beaches. Nearest supermarket is at Tikipunga. It's a very quiet rural location that feels secluded but is very convenient. We have been hosting for 3 years so please see our reviews.

Functional and with a beautiful view. Could benefit from some maintenance and a deep clean. The dog smell is omnipresent. Might not bother you when you bring your own pets.

Art and ocean

The house is very comfortable with 2 good sized bedrooms and big living/dining areas. There are some beautiful pieces of art and an excellent book collection. The view is amazing and the property has some hidden gems. We were here for 3 nights and loved every minute. Host is great!

Stunning views and all you need

Had a delightful stay at this place. It is a little off the beaten track so to speak, so for exploring there’s a little bit more to do but the surrounding area is breathtaking, the house is ideal for a small family of couple, everything you need. Such a great couple of nights here.

Was such a tranquil private place The views are just beautiful Steve provided everything we could want. It was our home away from home. It was warm and so inviting Thank you steve we will most certainly come back

Nice and quiet, and away from neighbours so it felt like a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoyable, and would gladly stay again. The view and sunny surround was absolutely amazing, as was the stroll down to the jetty. The house does provide all necessary cooking and living amenities to make the stay comfortable. However a coffee table would be really useful as there is no where to put your drink while watching tv. Absolutely fantastic that the property is pet friendly which is why we booked but it probably needs to be aired out before guests arrive as there was a really strong dog smell when we arrived. After airing the house during our 2 day stay the smell was gone by the time we left, and we also had a small dog as well. There is, understandably, a security camera watching the entrance. Although it provides security it should probably be mentioned in the listing for awareness.

Amazing views

What a beautiful place to wake up! This is a perfect place to be off the grid and enjoy the outdoors. Cozy cabin with everything you need and Steve was very helpful and welcoming! Our two teens loved all the outdoor space.

A peaceful and happy retreat

The property has wonderful views in all directions and lovely grounds. It is comfortable and well maintained with all the necessary facilities for a good stay.

Overall good stayed

The location is great with amazing view. Short drive to Tutukaka and Ngruguru township. The house is functional with all the amenities and great wifi speed. The toilet and bathroom have smells that needs to be look at.

Perfect bach!

Everything about the bach was perfect. It's clean, spacious; has stunning view; beds were comfy, etc., It's close to everything. Short drives to Whangarei and beaches. We absolutely had the best time and Steve made sure of that. Thank you very much Steve and hopefully we can go back soon :)

Dissappointed

We are very keen on fishing and booked this accommodation as it included a private jetty, which we expected would have unlimited access for us to enjoy our fishing whenever we chose too. This however is not the case it is restricted access controlled by the host, in that you must text him, every time prior to using the jetty to get permission due to what he deems as health & safety issues!! I would of thought having paid in advance for the week, any health & safety issues would have been addressed prior to guests arrival. I spoke to the host on the Monday and asked whether we could take a look at the jetty to which he replied no, but if it didn't rain overnight it would be fine the next day to go down. We attempted to do this, however when we got to his house which you have to pass to get to the jetty he came out and became quite animated raising his arms in the air, rolling his eyes and shrugging his shoulders (because we hadn't texted even though I had spoken to him the day before) which my wife and I considered rude. The excuse of health & safety issues regarding the jetty is ironic given health & safety issues with the actual accommodation don't seem to matter e.g broken light switch, masking tape around the wiring on the lights in the lounge and dining area, chipped crockery, split in chopping board and raised pieces of decking Restricted access to the jetty should be made clear in the booking information, if we had known this we would not have booked this holiday

Really third world! Shower was dirty and shower mat dirty. Spare blankets were smelly and not clean. Minimum of cutlery and crockery made meals a hassle for our group. Only two hand towels. No hooks to hang towels in the bathroom. Only one reading light per double bed - tough luck for the unlucky partner. There is nowhere in the spare room to hang anything, nor even a bench to place bags or clothes on. Owner extremely rude to one guest for not texting him before going down to the jetty. Totally unacceptable! The advert states that there was access to the jetty but there seemed to be a problem about us going there.

A hidden gem

This place is quiet, clean, and really well set out, comfortable. magnificent views, the best comfortable beds, and pillows, tank water is a plus . The host is available, and check in and out was a breeze. Many thanks Steve, hope we can return 1 day.

Tranquil getaway

We loved staying here. It is so peaceful. We felt refreshed and rejuvenated after our stay. A great place to unwind. The views are beautiful and the sunrise and sunsets were spectacular.

The property was great with all the facilities to cook food and wash and dry clothes. Very quiet with outstanding views as the property is located up high on a mountain. The road conditions to the property from the main town were ok with about 20 minutes of steady driving and only a small bit of gravel road for about 6 minutes driving slow. If you need groceries get them before driving out. Make sure you notify the manager if driving to the river and wharf on the property. The road to the wharf is gravel and quite steep and takes between 5 to 10 minutes slowly in dry conditions. The path down to the wharf is very steep
