Casa Blanca in Surfside is a stand-alone home with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room and a private pool.



The Space:

The kitchen has tile counters and a bar that seats four, as well as a stove, full-size refrigerator, coffeemaker, blender and toaster. There’s also a round dining table and chairs.



One bedroom has a queen bed and one has two twin beds, all with wooden headboards attached to the wall. The unit sleeps a total of four. The salmon-colored living room has a couch and chair with lots of pillows, a wooden coffee table and a TV, as well as a living room unit with a bookshelf.



The private pool is surrounded by trees, gardens and flowers, and the house has an hacienda-style red tile roof.

Surfside is a popular expat town on the southern outskirts of Potrero that is known for its restaurants, bars and nightlife, as well as its chill vibe. Surfside is arguably the “restaurant capital” of the long corridor that follows the coastal highway between Huacas in the south and Las Catalinas in the north. If you want to visit just one good restaurant per day here, that might take you a couple of weeks.



This entire coast is one of the most popular destinations in Costa Rica, boasting virtually every adventure that’s popular in this country. You can go fishing, scuba diving, sailing, ziplining, cycling, horseback riding and more.



Not far from here is Las Baulas Marine National Park, a nesting site for sea turtles, and Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park, anchored by a live volcano and famous for its thermal activity.

Pet-Friendly Policy



We welcome your furry friends at our property! Before you book, each pet must be verified and approved based on breed and size (max 35 lbs), accompanied by a recent photo. A refundable pet fee of $200 per stay, along with an additional cleaning fee of $50 + 13% per pet, is required to ensure our home remains pristine for all guests. We allow up to two pets per reservation. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times in public areas within the property grounds. Certain properties and complexes may have specific rules and registration requirements. Pets need to be verified at least 24 hours prior to check-in. If guests arrive at check-in with unverified pets, access to the property will be denied.

Owners are responsible for their pets' behavior and any damages incurred. Pets should not be left unattended within the property. For any questions or further details about our pet policy, feel free to contact us!

The Neighborhood:

Surfside is a charming community on Playa Potrero where many expats live permanently (in particular Canadians and Italians), and where visitors can choose from a wide range of elegant vacation rentals, appetizing restaurants and lively bars.

Located between the towns of Potrero and Flamingo, Surfside is an eminently walkable village where the beach is never more than a few blocks away. Several tour offices offer a variety of adventures by land and sea, and real estate offices will be happy to show you your next home in paradise.

Attractions you won’t want to miss include the beachfront Sailing Center (restaurant, bar, pool and sailing packages); the popular Perlas restaurant (a high-end roadhouse/sports bar with big-screen TVs, live music, and great wings, burgers and pizzas); the Cervecería Independiente craft brewery between the two; and other local eateries including the Shack and the Beach House.

The lines are somewhat blurred between Potrero and Surfside — Potrero (“pasture”) was the original Costa Rican name of both, but Surfside became the popular name when a lot of foreigners began developing its southern outskirts. Most people would probably say that Potrero starts somewhere north of Perlas, and it’s Surfside to the south. In either place, you can’t go wrong.



Getting Around:

Our agents will be happy to assist you with renting a car, giving you the freedom to explore the area where you want, when you want. For short drives to nearby towns or beaches, golf carts are another popular mode of transportation. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around in town or beyond.



We can arrange transfers to and from the airport. Rental cars can also be delivered to your property at no additional cost, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenery as our private van drives you here from the airport.



Taxis are available but can be a bit hard to find. Many locals use buses to get around, though there are a limited number of routes and times of day when you can catch them. Private shuttles can be a great option for traveling to nearby destinations, and many tour companies offer transportation to and from the tour. Our information brochure will provide you with useful information on local transportation options and points of interest, as well as contact information for taxis and shuttles.



Other Things to Note:

Special Places of Costa Rica is committed to protecting our properties and complying with short-term rental regulations, which is why all guests are required to complete an independent verification with our trusted partner, TRUVI, before check-in. You will be contacted via email, text, or app notification with instructions to complete this process. As part of the verification, you will need to choose between paying a refundable security deposit (which includes a non-refundable 2% processing fee) or purchasing a non-refundable damage waiver, which protects you in case of accidental damage during your stay. We strongly recommend the damage waiver, as it provides peace of mind and avoids tying up funds with a deposit. Both the TRUVI verification and your selection of either the deposit or the damage waiver must be completed prior to your arrival. Potrero Pool House

House was well kept and clean. Furniture and appliances could stand to be upgraded. Overall a more than adequate accommodation to stay at while enjoying Potrero and surrounding areas

Easy, comfortable, clean

Quiet area, secure, close to beaches, stores and restaurants. The pool pump is rather loud, but I'm guessing with all the leaves falling in the water a pump wears quickly. Great bird watching in the mornings looking up into the trees.

Not What It Appears

I will start off with the positves. The town of Surfside is wonderful, great beach and lovely people. The house is perfect size for a couple. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful. The welcome basket was good with supplies for a short term stay. The towels and linens in the house are of good supply, you will not run out. Renting a golf cart is perfect if you only want to go to surrounding towns. Now for the negatives. The house smelled horrible. The mildew, mold in the house is horrendous. There was a dehumidifier which had to be emptied twice a day. The roof is rotting. The ceiling is beginning to crack and fall apart. Pieces were falling during our stay. The home was not prepared for our stay. The pool had not been serviced. The television did not work. Our person through Special Places, Glenda, was helpful but seemed to be very busy. The kitchen lacked in cookware. Worse part was my husband getting locked in the bathroom, fortunately, he was able to get out by picking the lock. It took several calls to fix the door and it was not fixed by the time we left. We were there for two weeks. This property has MANY problems. Special Places or the owners need to make repairs before they rent this place again. It is such ashame that this place has NOT received good quality care. The online service of SuperHog was NOT a pleasant experience for booking this property. We were not pleased with the property, SuperHog or Special Places. VRBO properties has gone downhill.

Thank you for your detailed review, Doug. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the wonderful town of Surfside, the peaceful neighborhood, and the size of the house being perfect for a couple. We’re also happy that the welcome basket, linens, and towels met your needs. It’s great to know that our golf carts were perfect for traveling around the area, making it easier to explore the surroundings. We sincerely apologize for the negative aspects of your stay. We do want to clarify certain things, the property is not the newest, we agree upon that. Hence, if you compare this property against all the other properties in the area, it is a third of the price. There is no mold, mildew, roof, or ceiling issue, what exists is humidity, hence the dehumidifier. There are no leaks or anything similar on the property. Regarding the maintenance issues that you refer to; the pool is being cleaned twice a week by a professional pool company, and was serviced the day before your arrival. The pool upon your arrival, had crystal clear water, though some leaves. Expected when a property is surrounded by trees and jungle. The television stopped working during your stay, and within 24 hours this was replaced by a new one. The bathroom door, as explained to you, was affected by expanding wood due to humidity, so it was scraping (so more difficult to open), and we couldn't do much about it. Regarding the lock, it was working well when you arrived, and nearing the end of your stay failed. Items break or stop working, this can happen to anybody, and at anybody's property, you reported it, and indicated to take care of it, after your stay. Regarding SuperHog, we want to clarify that while the booking process can be very informative, it’s an essential part of our effort to ensure the security and safety of our guests by verifying identities. This added layer of protection helps us maintain a safe environment for all, the guest, the manager and the owner. We understand that it can feel a bit formal, but we do it with the best intentions for our guests. Though we have it clearly outlined in our listing description, and contract, you didn't want to complete it initially, when you already reserved the property. We believe the frustration you had, originates more regarding that we enforced our security and reservation procedure, then the process of completing the process itself. We value your feedback and are committed to improving the property and our services for future guests. We hope you will consider staying with us again, and we trust we can provide a much better experience next time.
