New Vrbo data shows surge in early demand for ski destinations

Vrbo reveals destinations with vacation homes still available for families hitting the slopes

AUSTIN, Texas – Oct. 13, 2021 – Though snowflakes have yet to fall in most of the continental U.S., families are ready to hit the slopes. New data from Vrbo® shows that vacation homes in ski destinations are getting scooped up earlier than ever this year.

The vacation home rental platform has seen an over 40% increase in demand for Vrbo homes in ski destinations compared to 2019 [1].

“Come fall, families are typically focused on booking cabins for leaf peeping or a last-minute beach escape, but this year, they’re planning ahead when it comes to ski vacations,” said Melanie Fish, Vrbo’s travel expert. "This is in line with the early booking trend we’ve been seeing all year as more families look to experience the space, convenience and comforts vacation homes have to offer.”

Despite the early surge in demand, it is not too late for families to find the ski chalet, cabin or condo that is right for them. Vrbo curated a series of Trip Boards to help inspire skiers and snowboarders of all types to find and book the perfect stay for their next snow-filled getaway:

Ski destinations for those who want to skip the crowds: Ski paradises like Breckenridge and Vail, Colorado are popular destinations every year. For families looking for more space on the slopes, these locales may be less crowded – and have more vacation home options. More than 65% of Vrbo vacation homes are still available to book for prime ski season in these destinations [2]:

  • Winter Park, Colorado

  • Mammoth Lakes, California

  • Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania

  • Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Tricked-out ski homes for the “après ski” crowd: Not everyone on a ski trip actually…skis. For those looking for accommodations that do more than just serve as a place to fuel up between runs, these Vrbo vacation homes come with hot tubs, pool tables, and fireplaces to satisfy those who would rather cozy up by the fire than venture out in the cold.

Ski-in, Ski-out homes for those who want to glide right onto the slopes: Some adventure-seekers want to eat, sleep and breathe snow during their entire trip. These ski-in, ski-out properties offer a convenient way to make the most of every sunlit hour on the mountain.
