Other things to note
I often get asked why it's called the Sandy Anchor. There is a picture inside the condo that tells the story, but I figured I should share it here as well.
My father was born in the Netherlands, just a few miles inland from Europe’s largest port of Rotterdam. The Dutch are known around the world as a seafaring people, but not my father. In fact, the ship bringing his family to America when he was just five collided with another and had to return to port.
My family has lived in St. Augustine for almost 40 years. A few years ago, we rented a pontoon boat for a day on the Intercostal Waterway. As we stopped for lunch, my father tossed the anchor towards the marsh. As it sank out of sight, my brother calmly asked, “Shouldn’t that be tied to the boat?” And thus the legend of the Sandy Anchor began.
Enjoy your stay!
