Welcome to Hono Kai A7, an oceanfront ground-floor, 1-bedroom 1-bath condo where you will be immersed in tropical views and soothed by the sound of the waves. Unit A7 can accommodate up to 4 guests. The master bedroom features a king-size bed in the bedroom and a queen-size sofa sleeper sofa in the main living area. The bedroom is separated from the main living area with lovely Hawaiian-style plantation shutters. The updated bathroom, located next to the front door, offers a large walk-in shower.

The fully equipped kitchen is updated and features custom cabinets, lighting, and updated appliances. This home stays cool with a split wall-mounted A/C unit in the living room and wonderful ocean breezes on windy days.

Hono Kai is a beachfront property where you can enjoy a 6-mile stretch of beach with views of Haleakala and Kaho'olawe, an oceanfront pool, and BQQ areas. Additionally, there is a coin-operated laundry facility for your convenience. Hono Kai is located at Ma'alaea Bay near many attractions, shops, and restaurants. Walk to the Aquarium, enjoy exciting activities from the nearby harbor, play miniature golf and more at Maui Golf & Sports Park, or shop at the Maui Harbor Shops. Ma'alaea is located in central Maui, bringing you closer to either side of the island. There are no resort or parking fees.

The unit we stayed in was excellent…a well equipped kitchen and nicely decorated, however,…the grounds and exterior common area were a huge disappointment. We have been coming to Maalaea Bay Area for 45 years…we hadn’t been back for about 8 years, and how it has declined! There is very little outdoor space, we were fortunate to be beach front, but pictures are very misleading as to how much erosion has taken place…I would request recent photos before booking. This has been a beautiful place, and we were very sorry to see the condition it is in…

Beautiful Stay

Aloha, Thank you for hosting us. It was very beautiful cozy beach facing home. Loved waking up to the sound of waves and birds. So quiet and pleasant and the house is right in between the south & east beaches. House is very well maintained and enjoyed how every corner was used to the fullest. The kitchen was completely user friendly and very well equipped. We definitely would visit again! Mahalo!

Maui stay

We stayed here in early April, and didn't have any issues with people gathering in front of our place or loud kids in the pool. Beach access is pretty easy and we loved morning walks with the sunrise. When we were there the place was pretty quiet and the beach felt very private/not crowded at all. Cons: -The AC wasn't the strongest and would turn off every 4 hrs. -We did see a few cockroaches around the complex

Excellent value for steps from the water

We stayed on A level and had a sliding door right onto a small grass lawn with lounge chairs. Wave noise was so loud we had to close the windows at night!! That’s how close we were to the water. Centrally located. This property is on the dry side so if you are looking for tropical smells and showers try the other side of the island.

Originally had a different hotel. Was overbooked. But perfect stay apologized and put me into another unit that is very nice. Beach front. Relaxing on the porch And I got to see the whales jump 3 times. That was pretty neat to see. Over all it was great.

Problems

Toilet clogged and overflowed, air conditioner was inadequate, pool freezing. Nice ocean view and beach. Very small unit, right next to pool. Relatively well stocked kitchen.

Great view

The beach is right on the patio so that was great. Like other reviews have mentioned, this is the only condo with easy access so most people lounge close to your patio. There was broken glass in the condo when we checked in and was communicated by email and msg but we just got automated response. The shower needs a door. A small vacuum would have helped us clean up better.

Great Location, Good Condo, but confirm the AC setup is ok first

The condo was very clean and nice. For some reason the owner had the ac unit restricted so we could not control the temp or fan speed. Prop Mgmt company was great and brought in a portable ac unit once they saw the setup. Common area out back door is close and small so you'll have people from the pool, lounge chairs, grilling, etc. in the backyard/ocean view area out your door. Still a great location so just an fyi so you can decide if that's an issue for you. Easy beach access at the park next door.

Perfect low key spot

This was a great low key location if your looking to avoid all the busy and loud tourist traps, but close enough you can visit them. The condo was nice, looked to be recently modernized and clean. The property has a small pool, the sandy beach start right in front and goes all the way to Kihei. Each morning and evening we say watching the ocean and sky (and light from Kihei. I did a little snorkeling right in front when calm, the kids did some body boarding when there was waves. Saw turtles out front often. For my family we were walking distance to the harbor for a snorkeling trip and a dinner cruise. Also Luxe Latte was an awesome little coffee shop we visited daily. This was the first place we stayed (3 in this trip), but I wish it was the last location as it was so calm and would have been a great way to slow down and enjoy Maui before heading home

It was a beautiful oceanfront condo. Condos were cramped. "Common area" was literally directly in front of our condo. People put their tents and lounge chairs and sun bathed blocking our view. It was unbelievable. Severable parties happened at night although everyone was quiet by 9. I felt badly for others because it was literally the only place they coukd gather. The pool also was also right out in front only a few feet away. The upside was you could walk right onto the beach to get away. That part was beautiful. Turtles and whales could be seen from yoir beach and you could swim in the ocean and snorkel nearby.

Good value

Pros: Steps from the sea wall for great whale watching from the small lanai. Friendly community of guests mingle at the convenient grilling area. Located near the aquarium and several restaurants, or an easy drive to Kehei. Comfortable bed with lots of pillows (but we could have used an extra blanket or comforter). Beach chairs, cooler and beach towels appreciated . Kitchen seemed well stocked, but we didn’t cook so can’t really comment on the cookware or appliances. Unit was clean. Cons: As others have noted, the unit is near the small pool and area where guests lounge. We could hear loud conversations from sunbathers and kids screaming in the pool. Beach not easily accessible for everyone. The tv/cable was a bit challenging. Overall, this was a good value and we would recommend if you’re looking for a place away from the crowds.

Perfect position

Maalaea is a small harbour and self catering apartments centre. It’s well away from the crowds and commercial centres. Our unit the best positioned as on ground floor with the ocean edge no more than 10 paces in front. Unobstructed view of the water and a nice sheltered patio to gaze out to watch for whales breaching. Take binoculars with you. Not much choice in local restaurants. Need a car to get around. Main centres for shops 15-25 mins drive away depending on which direction. But Maalaea is central positioned for exploring in all directions so great base for exploring Maui. Is a 3 storey building and only 4 X 3 apartments look seawards. Definitely want this view. Access to the beach is direct in front and then can walk for several miles if you wish. Almost all the other condo blocks do not have direct access to the beach as the sea comes right up to a rocky wall. These visitors would have to walk a long way up the road to access the beach. From our unit you are on the beach in under a minute!

Nice place

My husband, 3 year old and I stayed here for 9 nights. Great little place, very clean. It was so nice being in a ground unit and having the ability to walk right out to the pool and beach. It was also wonderful to listen to the waves crashing on shore while falling asleep at night. It is a bit small in the area where people lay out and relax on the loungers. One day we had a bunch of people right in front of our patio sunning themselves which was a little weird but not a huge deal. The only thing we weren't impressed by was the beach. Don't get me wrong it is nice for sure, but the waves were a bit much for our toddler to be able to run out into the water and play and there were very large rocks not too far out. My husband went and bought water shoes after cutting himself on a rock. But we did see quite a few turtles! We ended up spending quite a few days driving to other more mellow beaches with no waves for our toddler but if it would have been just us, it wouldn't have been an issue. Overall, a great condo and great central location especially if you want to get in the car and explore around the entire island.

Convenient and relaxing

Had a great stay! Loved the proximity to the beach, the pool and that view. Really impressed with the kitchen. Filled up with all appliances and cookies gadgets. Plus we used the cooler and the beach chairs as we explored the island. Would love to come back!

Clean and Comfortable Condo

The condo was great and very clean. It had adequate supplies for our nearly 2 week stay. The grounds and pool were kept very clean. As Sr. Citizens, we found the surf a little too rough for us. So we used the pool more often. We had a wonderful stay on this property.

Great property & location

Everything was great with the beach only 30 feet from our door. Only not so good thing was the very rude noisy fellow tenants that decided to party noisily on the lawn outside our unit.

Everything we wanted

We loved staying at this property. We arrived early before checkin and the mgmt company was very responsive in communicating between us and the cleaning person so we could enter the unit a little ahead of schedule. Amenities were as described w/ a full kitchen and beach supplies. With the pool and beach so close by, there was nothing left to desire. My only tip is rental car is a must at this location as Hono Kai is at the very end of the street in Maalaea and we found it difficult to use public transport/Uber doesn’t service the area/Lyfts are overbooked. I would be so happy to return. Miss the beach already.
