Executive Oceanfront Retreat

Come and live on the beach - expansive views from all rooms - three stories of glass overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Glass elevator. Beautifully furnished (contemporary) with original artwork on 6 levels - Master level with loft overlooking ocean. 2 Queen rooms o 2nd level with private bathrooms. Great dormitory room on 1st level with walk out to the beach. We have a sun deck at the ocean (the gazebo left us last year in a storm)

Large dormitory style room with bunk bed, queen, twin and trundle opens directly to covered patio, elevated beach walk and outdoor hot and cold shower. Beach chairs and umbrellas with lots of outdoor furniture. New deck and walkway has been installed

We have done extensive work over the winter. All previous problems have been addressed and we are ready to go. Come to your almost private beach and during season complete with lifeguard. Come have fun at the beach!

House is in a great location but very run down. Virtually nothing was provided either, it’s a do it yourself deal for everything…no linens, towels, bathing supplies and only a starting roll of toilet paper.

This property should not be charging what they do. We have rented oceanfront properties every season and this is by far the worst experience we have had.

The building jas some issues with many of the higher end amenities not working. The location and views are incredible. Only one of the doors to the back deck opened smoothly. The middle door fell on my son he was able to hold it up till assistance arrived, a younger child may have been in trouble.

The Good:Check in was seamless. Easy to get in to the property and there’s an elevator that came very handy as my wife broke her foot the week prior to our stay.The property is in prime location. The beach is the backyard, which the kids love. Meals and snacks between beach fun was a huge plus. We woke up every morning for runs on the beach, sunrise pictures and etc. There’s plenty of space for three little ones to run around and have plenty of fun before starting school.The bad:The house needs some updating. As soon as you walk in you notice the power of photography and photoshop… the images make the property look a whole lot more luxurious than it is. The living room furnitures are falling apart. One of the twin bedrooms in the basement is unstable and my 5 year old fell while sleeping.The UGLY:The only reason I’m giving this a 2 is because it gets 1 point for location and 1 point for space. Otherwise, I would give it a zero. The property is marketed as an executive luxurious waterfront property… it is 600k shy of update to be qualified as such. For the amount of money one pays per night, I would expect better mattresses on the beds. One gets a better mattress at holiday inn. The comforter and pillow that is provided at cheap 10 items from Walmart (this is not an exaggeration). The master bathroom on the 4th floor has a hole. It rained every night that we were there and yep you guessed it, water was all over the floor. And there was mold and more

Don't Make The Same Mistake!

We were very disappointed! They had a gas leak which never got fixed so we had no hot water & couldn't use the stove/oven. We had to use a 2 burner countertop burner which took along time to make a meal for 9 people. Had to boil water to fill tubs for a 1 1/2 year old & 2 young girls which took along time also. The adults took cold showers. We were offered to shower at her place on the day of the Wedding/which took place at the Condo. I really just want to put this behind us but somehow you need to make this right. I have never spent this much money on Vacation & it ended up being an awful experience. Also air-conditioners couldn't keep all of the Condo cool enough.

VA beach getaway

The location and views is 1000% you will go crazy with the stairs in the house. But there is an elevator so checking in with bags is easy. Everything is good shape. But if you have a critical eye like me you will find issues. Hopefully they revolve them soon.

Horrible Safety Hazard and Roach infestation

The location is great but the house is in serious need of repair and maintenance. Rust everywhere, dry rot in most of the windows a partially collapsed ceiling- which had half of it barely hanging and ready to fall. To complete the nightmare we killed more than six large roaches in two days. We left after the second night and got a hotel Asking for a refund but the owner is dragging her feet. VRBO needs to step in and get my money back. This is not an executive retreat. It’s a nightmare. Help VRBO!!! If I don’t get my money back I will report her and the service to the city as a health hazard.

Retro Relaxation

It was so quiet and so relaxing. I enjoyed the views and especially the ocean during the full moon! I believe if more investments are made many more will book this 90s vibe vacation home. This is definitely a vintage treasure and should be maintained but not toy changed. Lori is very communicative and I felt safe the entire time. Thank you for the stay.

I would not recommend this House to anyone, Ant. Infested, and and owner was not honest about it

I would not recommend anyone to stay at this house. It is totally infested with ants and I also seen roaches on fourth floor bedroom and office area where so bad. When I woke up the morning. My bed was fulll of tiny ants and I had bites all over me contacted the owner. Yes, she did respond quickly. She brought us over ant traps and hung them on our door. I ended up contacting her again about the leaks, and the upstairs bathroom floor was wet. Then again about the ants all over our food in the kitchen. She told me in my message she wasn’t aware of the ants being that bad. I looked back at the reviews like I should have in the beginning and it mentioned it several times so she lied. She also told me the ants don’t bite they do. I looked it up to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind But I wasn’t. I try to be nice and patient but I itched the whole three full days we were there. Some of my family left Thursday evening because they couldn’t take it anymore. We checked in Monday and left at 7 AM Friday morning. I contact her and ask her for some of my money back for the inconvenience, Being miserable because of the bite & food loss. She told me that if we left Thursday night, she would reimburse us one day. Easier said than done. I have two older parents and my aunt was an oxygen. I have screenshots of our messages. I have photos of my bites. I have videos of the ants and everything that I’m talking about. She told me she was done talking to me and to deal with it through Vrbo.

Amazing place in its day!!

Beautiful views, lots of room, interesting architecture and lovely setting. Unfortunately, it needs a lot of TLC due to leaks, and simply being quite old. It doesn’t appear it’s used a lot. Ants were prevalent, especially in the master bath and others.. A few cockroaches were in the closets also. Might need fumigation. Even though those were the issues, my friends, and I enjoyed our stay, regardless of the crummy weather. fumigation.

Beyond Disgusting

We received the key code and went to check into the home. The location is great. Upon entry a smell of moisture and mold hits you. As we walked through the home the leaking roof and mold was apparent. The home has mold and mildew around every window, door and the HVAC vents. All of the ceramic tile areas have broken and loose ceramic tiles- a hazardous condition at a home on the beach where you don’t wear shoes. Sharp edges will cut feet. The decking is old and dangerous. We had respiratory reactions to the mold in the short time we were in the property. vRBO asked us to photograph all of the fallen Sheetrock, rotten door and windows, broken tiles. After weeks of subjecting ourselves to the VRBO lack of responding, we did a fraud charge back through our credit card company. It was the only way we could get justice. I have photos of the mold and awful state of condition.

Great View, with a big caveat.

This house is in an amazing location and has a great view of the ocean through huge three-story windows looking out over the dunes. It has great bones and was once probably the shining jewel of Croatan Beach.  Sadly, the property has fallen into a state of disrepair. The first thing that greets you when you walk in the door is the distinct smell of mold and mildew. That’s because the house has leaks. This has led to water stains and peeling paint throughout the house, and the ceiling has fallen down in places.  While the beach is beautiful, your path to reach it is slightly perilous. The deck is falling apart, so don’t lean on any railings lest they topple over, and watch out for boards that are rotting out.  If you just want the view and the proximity to the beach, this house is excellent! If you want the beach and a nice well kept home (much less “executive retreat”) you should probably keep looking.

Ants, Cockroaches, and Mold!!

I highly discourage anyone staying at this house. We arrived to ants on the kitchen table, floors and in the dishwasher. At night we saw 2 inch cockroaches along the floorboards. Great views to the ocean, just don't lean on any part of the deck because it's not attached and falling apart. A family member almost fell off the deck while looking over the dunes. All the showers and bathrooms had mold on the ceilings and hairs in the tub. We love Virginia Beach but not this house

Good

The cleaning was not good. We had to mop the kitchen floor so we would not stick to it. No hot water up in the master bedroom. Hot tub was not filled could not use, also seen exposed wiring that look to be live. The condition of the deck was horrible was afraid my grandchildren would get hurt on it. The ants were horrible in the whole house. Was shocked that we only received one key to the house.

Girls' Weekend

The location is amazing. The house has a lot of deferred maintenance. The walkway to the beach was very dangerous. Loose or missing railings... sagging boards that were so loose we were scared to put weight on them. Stairs that when you stepped on them shifted under your weight. Also two of the bathrooms had not been cleaned prior to our arrival (toothpaste in sinks and hairs everywhere). We had a great time, the elevator made it easy to bring in our luggage, etc., just wish the accommodations had been in better condition.

Misleading images

The only positive thing about this house was the view of the ocean and the nice neighborhood! The previous review problems are all still there. The gaping hole in the ceiling exposing insulation, pipes & wires; the very unsafe deck with uneven boards and wobbly railings; all the sliding doors have an issue whether they don't lock at all or can't even be opened. Water was dripping in at the living room glass door, significantly, during a rain which also lead to a leak in the third floor ceiling leaving a huge puddle on the ceramic tile floor that caused a huge safety issue. There's also a huge crack in a window that looks like at any moment it'll come crashing down. The master suite shower is quite dangerous to climb into without safety handles to grab onto. All the tables in the living area are glass tops with sharp edges....so families with small children beware. The very first day a cockroach was discovered in the kitchen which left the rest of the family weary of wanting to eat in. The kitchen is also missing a base cabinet and another is duct taped together. Still there are missing light bulbs, exposed light fixtures and switches that don't seem to operate anything. The downstairs "dormitory room" has a horrible, horrible odor and is not fit to sleep in especially if someone has a respiratory situation. The unfinished, plywood walk-in closets are very odd. Not sure what's going on with this property, but it'll rent due to it's location....and that's a shame!

Lack of toilet paper

Loved the location of this house!! Just be aware that even though it lists that it comes with paper towel and toilet paper - ONLY one roll of toilet paper is given per bathroom and one roll of paper towel in the kitchen. That's all. If you want more, you must provide them yourself.

NOT as it appears

THOUGHT we were getting luxury home for our family vacation. Built in 1991, it WAS an incredible house but is in desperate need of repairs. VRBO complaints from 2021 unresolved! Landlord’s replies indicate these are resolved but “repairs” are slipshod at best - kitchen cabinet doors loosely duct-taped on, no door for slide-out kitchen garbage cans, light fixtures w/bare bulbs, screens ripped & falling apart, old mattresses & pillows (mattress covers supposedly sprayed with Lysol?) no hot water in basement shower, garbage under beds, dirty socks, trash, & animal feces strewn around patio & exterior. Decking is falling apart, zip-tied together, & DANGEROUS! Basement dorm room sliding glass door almost impossible to open - it bucks like a bronco. Landlord actually told me to go out the front door and come around to use patio and/or for beach access (previous complaints about this 3 years ago). More unresolved complaints: jacuzzi inoperable, bathroom floor tiles missing, ceiling damaged & bare insulation showing, sliding glass doors in queen bedrooms broken & will not open (one handle is hanging by a thread.) Landlord: “don’t use those sliding glass doors,” so some of the balconies are unavailable. Incredible view - water steps away. 3-story windows in Liv room (but WINDOW AC unit badly fitted w/plywood - daylight shows through cracks & temperature control is poor - it gets very hot). With a little effort and a few small repairs, this could be an amazing place!

Long weekend getaway

The location is amazing. The house is very spacious, a little worn but met our expectations. The beach is great, saw some dolphins. Suggest to bring a Bluetooth speaker for tunes.

Awesome beach getaway

This house is an awesome place to get away and relax. There are some issues with the house itself, such as part of the ceiling missing and exposed insulation, but nothing that interfered with the security or comfort of the home. The host did advertise a jacuzzi tub, but the jacuzzi function did not work. Outdoor hot tub was also out of service. Apart from those issues, we had a pleasant stay. The neighborhood is nice, and is close to many great restaurants and attractions.

We love Virginia Beach- centrally located in the mid-atlantic. Croatan beach is almost private with no street parking, but we still have lifeguard service in season. Really walkable neighborhood, almost surrounded completely by water. We live here too!
