Dear Mary, Thank you for your feedback. Although your stay wasn’t what you had hoped, all feedback is valuable to owners like us who rely on others to keep the house in tip top shape. I am very distressed that your experience is so outside the norm of what other renters share with us. It caused me a very sleepless night. I’ve struggled with writing a response here, as I welcome feedback, use it as a way to improve renter experience and do not wish to appear defensive or dismissive of your experience. For example, the musty smell/pocketknife and socks are concerning since the house has been rented a lot lately and we haven’t been down ourselves since early September. I wondered how the cleaning lady and property manager’s weekly check in could miss such obvious things and then worried the house isn’t being maintained. After some research, we realized we had a worker in the house that week, and apparently he did the work the day after the cleaning lady had cleaned. We were told that: the pocketknife was his, he passed through the crawl space access panel in the green bedroom and that the foundation work we have been getting done disrupts soil and can create a musty smell for a few days afterwards. The dirty socks in the bedroom made no sense, because even if they were hidden in the room with the access panel, and dislodged by the handyman, they should have been found sooner by cleaning woman or picked up by the handyman. I have addressed with workman and cleaning lady. At the risk of sounding defensive, I feel I need to correct a few of your other points as they are inaccurate. We have Direct TV with many channels. We also provide a ROKU for people who want to stream their TV. Since we do not provide Hulu, I suspect previous renter did not log off their Hulu account when leaving, so you were connected to ROKU not the TV. If you had contacted me while you were staying at the house, we could have talked you through this or had someone pop over and walk you through it. Because there is Direct TV, a VCR/DVD player and Roku, all operated with separate remotes, the TV operation can be tricky. As a corrective measure, I am currently reprinting TV operating instructions and placing another copy in basket with remotes so this won’t happen again. The fireplace was serviced when we had a new heating system installed in September. I reached out to the renters before and renter after you, and they used the fireplace without issue. I can’t understand why it didn’t work for you. I double checked and both the pre-arrival message and attached check-in instructions I sent you via VRBO have the correct location of the new WiFi modem in them. The password is included with the check-in details. I can only guess the old info was left in the house or renters guidebook. If so, I will address that this week. I appreciate you and your friends giving our house a try, and hope these issues didn’t detract too much from your wonderful girls weekend in beautiful Cannon Beach. Best, Lisa
