The Lookout House at Huelo Point Lookout in Maui is the perfect home base for exploring the island. The location of the house off the Hana Highway makes it a great starting point for your Road to Hana adventure. The famous scenic drive to Hana is a must-do activity for visitors to Maui, with breathtaking views of waterfalls, rainforests, and beaches. By staying at The Lookout House, you can beat the crowds and fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the island.

After a long day of exploring, come back to the house and soak in the hot tub with a chilled glass of wine, and take in the spectacular starry night sky. The wraparound decks on both levels of the house boast ocean and mountain views from every room. You can enjoy your morning coffee with a view of the sunrise over the ocean or relax in the evening with a view of the sunset over the mountains.

The Lookout House provides a great balance of privacy and convenience. Located just 45 minutes from Kahului Airport and 15-20 minutes from restaurants and shopping, you can easily explore the nearby towns and restaurants while having a secluded oasis to come back to.

The house is also equipped with all the amenities you need to feel at home. You can prepare your meals in the fully equipped kitchen and enjoy them on the teak dining table or the outdoor treetop barbecue lanai. We adored this house and loved our stay in North Shore! The views were incredible, especially in the morning. The kitchen was well appointed and the beds were comfy, with great views from almost every corner of the house. It really made a difference for our drive time on the Road to Hana and Haleakala- we hope to return soon!

If youā€™re looking to get away and truly enjoy the beauty of Maui this is the place to be! My husband and i enjoyed morning runs, the quiet property and the most amazing sunrises. The kids enjoyed playing in the pool and relaxing in the hot tub. You can tell this property is very loved. We were welcomed with fresh eggs (which were amazing), fresh coffee beans, bread, lemonade and a nice chilled bottle of white wine. I never experienced a vrbo like this and it was truly special.I hope one day we can return with my mom and inlaws.Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with use!

First, a note about the host. The day before our stay we were scheduled to be in Kahului at a hotel. Unfortunately, this was the timing of a Tsunami warning. Our hotel and surrounding area were evacuated, meaning we would have to stay in a shelter or our rental car (with 3 children, not fun). We called Sharyn on the off chance that she might be able to help, as the property is well out of the Tsunami Zone. She called within 5 minutes and made arrangements for us to arrive early and provided recommendations about getting provisions. In my opinion, you canā€™t truly know how a host is going to be until something goes wrong. Take comfort that you are in fantastic hands on this property!! She saved our vacation!On to the spaceā€¦the layout of the house was perfect for everyone to have privacy when needed and together time when wanted. Cooking was easy and comfortable, the AC was helpful when the winds were too strong to keep the windows open. But the true gem was the property, landscaping, and ways to enjoy both with Lanai space. You could literally walk around and feel like you were in paradise! They maintain it beautifully with such interesting flora! The pool was the best I have ever swam inā€¦it was beautiful, comfortable temperature the entire time, just enough sun, and located inside lush plants that really gave that feeling of privacy. Great location for Road to Hana and North Shore towns and beaches! A true 10/10!!

This was by far our favorite stay on our vacation. the sunrises in the mornings over the coast was just amazing. I loved the breeze and the peace and really everything about the house. it was such a peaceful place to come back to after a day out exploring maui.

The lookout house was amazing! This side of the island is a complete different experience from the west side. The house is a great jumping off point for the road to Hana. The grounds are truely magical and the house is very comfortable. 5 Stars!

Our crew had an amazing time at the property. The house is great with lots of natural light. Our hosts were very thoughtful and decorated the house with tropical flowers and even left us some goodies for our arrival. The house has a rustic charm that feels warm and inviting. We spent a great deal of time with the a/c off and the doors open letting the breeze blow through. The location cannot be beat if you're considering driving the Road to Hana or exploring Haleakala, both of which were our primary objectives of this trip. The grounds of the property are stunning and feel like a well-maintained tropical paradise with an abundance of tropical plants and flowers throughout the landscape. The pool was also nice, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. The walkout to the cliff was spectacular and offered stunning views overlooking the ocean. I will also say the stars from the upper deck at night were a treat and we enjoyed sitting out there late staring up into the heavens. I cannot say enough positive things about our stay, the friendliness of our hosts, or the natural beauty surrounding the property. We would definitely recommend it to anyone really wanting to enjoy the lush tropical beauty of Maui while also enjoying a little personal space.

Peaceful setting, beautiful views!

We loved our stay at The Lookout House! The house was perfect for our family of five. We couldnā€™t get enough of the views from the deck and loved star gazing at night. Wonderful winter escape!

We loved our time at the lookout house! It is so remote, quiet, and peaceful. We loved not having any road noise in the background and just the sounds birds, cows (yes, cows!) and the distant ocean. There were rainbows and whale spouts to spot almost every day. And it truly does jumpstart your Hana drive. We hardly met any crowds or traffic. Wish we didn't have to return to a polar vortex, but it was nice while it lasted!

Peaceful family relaxation

This house was all that was promised and more. We loved the chance to relax and be on the road to Hana. We woke up to the best sunrise around with tropical birds singing to us. The pool and hot tub were the kids favorite. We could not have asked for a more peaceful place to enjoy Maui.

Hide away in the hills.

This is a perfect spot for a family. You could get all your food in town and enjoy youre whole stay at this place. The staff was extremely nice and good with communication. The host went above and beyond and were more than accommodating to our stay. I would say if youre looking for a place with a pool and amazing views this is it. Dont miss this one. 10/10 for a reason!

What a wonderful place to stay in Hawaii. We stayed for 3 nights to get a jump start on the Road to Hana but this would be perfect to do any and everything on Maui. Such a beautiful spot, home was very well appointed and very secluded.

Huelo lookout house

Our stay was amazing! The views were great, hosts were always available if needed, and very welcoming. Itā€™s a great jump start to the road to Hana. Plenty of space for a large family, really great get away from hustle and bustle of town. We piggy backed this off of time at Kaā€™anapali and it was great to get both experiences in for a fabulous balanced trip ā¤ļø. Hawaii is truly one of a kind!

A spectacular property, best for adults

This property is just amazing. It is part of a "compound"style that is best for couples and not large families and its a more quiet, peaceful, serene location and while it has a pool its not heated and it more of a relaxing than boisterous place. Cannot recommend it enough for relaxation, beauty and the most beautiful part of the island, The owners are amazing as well

House did not disappoint! Beautiful location and views, great vicinity for the road to Hana and volcano summit, and comfortable stay. Due to water shortages on the island the water ran out but the hosts did everything possible to resolve it quickly for us.

Nothing short of spectacular

I cannot speak highly enough about Sharyn, Jeff, and their stunning property. When you think Hawaii, THIS home and its location are precisely what you picture. The added touches left (chocolates, fresh coffee beans, snacks, games, etc) made my family feel so at home and welcome. Sharyn was communicative and very helpful for giving tips on fun places to go and if you read the welcome book left you'll also find some of the best places to eat! If you want to see the natural beauty and non-tourist areas of the island then don't hesitate: this is the place for you!

Family Time in Paradise

Wow! What an incredibly beautiful property! The lush natural landscape and the colorful decor of the spacious home truly represent the highest sense of a tropical paradise. Our family of 8 appreciated how clean the home was on our arrival and we made great use of the well equipped kitchen during our stay. The strong WIFI connection made a few work hours painless and the consistent hot water was a pleasant surprise, considering our relatively large group. The owners were friendly and accommodating and ultimately Huelo Point Lookout was a wonderful location for our family to spend valued time together!

Jeff is a retired dentist - now he specializes in counseling and is expanding his hypnosis practice into Subconscious Training. (Previously he used these skills in working with phobic patients in dentistry - but these skills have much wider applications and he's having fun expanding them). Sharyn is an actress, writer, speech therapist, permaculturalist & interior decorator. At the moment, she's enjoying theatre improv, comedy sketch writing, and is working on her next one-woman show (for post-Covid times, of course). We have one young son, Kai Nalu, aged 23. And also an older son, Adrian, who lives in England with his lovely German wife, Antje and their 2 totally cute kids. We're too young to have grandchildren! aaaggghh!!! But what a treat!

Huelo Pt Lookout is an off the beaten path, wild and wonderful part of Haiku. Who could resist? We have a constant trade wind, so we never 'bake' like the west side ... and here the landscape is lush, so it's easy to do our organic gardening. We wanted a Maui dream escape, but also wanted some conveniences, and these we have aplenty! A perfect combination.

Privacy. relaxation and, these days, SAFETY & SECLUSION are things that are priceless. So many people find they rediscover those things, when they stay with us. Romance too, of course. All our spaces are specifically and lovingly created for maximum privacy, so you feel that you're our ONLY guests! This is the natural part of Maui - not 'manicured' or 'manufactured' to be part of a Hollywood image. Here, you discover the 'real' Maui - exotic ... waterfalls ... bamboo forests ... soaring ocean cliffs ... nesting seabirds ... wild ocean ... what we dream of, when we say 'Hawaii'. Here, you'll feel 'remote', but still enjoy the conveniences of having access to 3 small towns (Pa'ia, Makawao and Haiku) for easy grocery pickup, P.O., delightful boutiques & fun restaurants.
