Clean and new, upscale studio at a tropical oasis. Close to beach and town!

We are very excited about our project, Isla Retreats, that was completed in May 2017. Our main goal for Isla Retreats is to provide an adults only, tranquil and unique Caribbean-Mexican experience. Guests can get away from the hustle-bustle of downtown and everyday life to relax and savor the lovely island. We designed the common area to create a peaceful ambience featuring a salt-water pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, tropical gardens and an exquisite palapa. We wanted to keep as much green-space as possible, so we designed the property with many tropical plants and coconut trees. There are many extraordinary hand-carved marble and onyx sculptures throughout the property as well.

Isla Retreats is located five minutes from downtown and Playa Norte, at the beginning of the safe and charming neighborhood, Salina Chica, just past the airport and the college, Bachilleres. Within walking distance, you will find a tennis and basketball court, many local stores, grocery stores and places to buy fresh juice, fruits and vegetables. It is easy to catch a taxi in front of the property to go downtown or to the beach. Parking is available for golf carts as well. Isla Retreats is private, yet close to downtown where you will find many shops, restaurants, bars and live music. If you want to stay in the neighborhood and not go to town, Isla Retreats is located within walking distance to many popular restaurants: Rosa Sirena's, Aurora, Mango Cafe, Caribbean Brisas, Kash Keken Chuc and Green Verde, to name a few. We are located three blocks from the main grocery store on the island, Chedruai, which includes a number of important food items, a bakery, a nice selection of wines and liquors.

Our saltwater pool is only for guests staying at Isla Retreats and Casa de Katy. To keep the grounds quiet, safe and private, we do not allow use of the pool by people who are not staying at Isla Retreats or Casa de Katy. You can enjoy the sounds of the waterfall while sitting by the pool or under the palapa. The palapa and pool area are perfect for coffee and fresh orange juice in the morning, and cocktails in the evenings - or anytime!

There are 6 villas at Isla Retreats. All are upscale, tastefully decorated, and fully furnished with everything you will need for your stay. All villas have smart TVs and WiFi Internet. We provide beach towels and bath towels, high quality linens, a hair dryer, and iron/ironing board for your use. There is an in-room safe to store your valuables and passports. Housekeeping (daily or as requested) is available at no extra charge (tips are appreciated!). There is on-site staff available to accommodate our guests in setting up golf cart rentals and other activities.

Villa #5 is located on the second floor, at the back of the complex, overlooking Salina Chica. There is a king size bed, a kitchen, that includes a refrigerator, 2-burner cooktop, oven, microwave, coffeepot and toaster. Enjoy beautiful sunsets and bird watching on the balcony looking over Salina Chica.

Isla Retreats was a perfect find for us. Everything was immaculate with modern amenities and a beautifully cared for property. This was a last minute booking and Katy was so communicative and helpful and quickly addressed a couple of our requests. The staff was friendly and great at servicing the room. The location is in the middle of the island so a quick and cheap cab ride anywhere, with plenty of walkable restaurants or they can set you up with a golf cart rental delivered to the hotel. So convenient. We also loved the resident cats who were friendly and lovable if you approach them. We will definitely be back.

Great get away

We really loved Isla retreat. It was very calming and peaceful. Katy left no stone unturned, she assisted in ferry rides, golf cart rental even food suggestions. I really appreciated her extended family who happened to be there, they were so kind and entertaining! The facility was immaculate we will be back.

Perfect stay

Everything was great. Quiet, peaceful. Salt water pool. The owner was great. Communication. Cleanliness. Comfort. Price. No complaints at all. Even the cat kept a watch on our golf cart lol.

Beautiful, relaxing and super clean

Absolutely loved this property from beginning to end! Katy's communication from the beginning was wonderful. She was very informative about what to expect. She booked our golf cart and had it on site and ready for us upon arrival then booked our taxi to take us to ferry on the day of departure. While staying, Katy was very responsive to any questions. The location and property were wonderful. We loved the fact that it is a small property with beautiful landscaping and very clean. All the staff were so friendly. Room was spacious and very clean. We would definitely stay again!

Absolutely stunning property

This is mine and my husbands 7th visit to the island over the last 2-3 years. My only regret is not having found this beautiful property sooner! It was absolutely everything we wanted and needed. The pool is clean and peaceful. The location is great. It’s about 5-10 mins by golf cart to north beach an about 10-15 to the south end. Honestly the perfect location. Katy was incredibly helpful and very responsive. We can’t wait to come back. We stayed 4 nights, but it’s so comfortable, we wanted to stay a few more nights! We are already looking forward to our next visit.

This Upscale Resort Is Immaculate

The attention to detail and the thoughtful gestures made our experience truly unforgettable. First and foremost, the communication with the Katy was exceptional. She were prompt, friendly, and incredibly helpful. Katy has put a great deal of effort into maintaining a pristine environment. It felt as though we were the first and only guests to ever set foot in the resort. The attention to cleanliness and hygiene provided us with peace of mind and allowed us to fully enjoy our stay. Furthermore, the thoughtful touches and amenities provided by the Katy truly made us feel welcome. From the bottle of wine left for us to enjoy to the abundance of towels and toiletries available, we felt like every detail had been carefully considered. If you want to enjoy the island without the rowdiness and drunken behavior of other tourists this is the place to be. The sweet kitties that stay outside did it for me. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice to stay. We will definitely be back! Book your stay at Isla Retreats, you will love it!

Great little gem of a place.

What a wonderful oasis this place is. The suite was beautiful, super clean and extremely well equipped. The little saltwater pool was perfect. The small garden area fit perfectly. But the best thing was Katy, the awesome host. She was extremely friendly and super helpful with any questions of the area. She pointed us to all the best eateries and places to check out. She had a golf cart ready for us on arrival and looked after its return afterwards. We highly recommend Isla Retreats for you next stay in Isla Mujeres.

The grounds at Isla Retreats are beautiful! The villas are very tastefully done and thoughtfully furnished. We had everything we needed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Katy is a fabulous host! We appreciated meeting her and seeing all she has done to create a beautiful environment.

Everything you didn't know you wanted

A beautiful oasis with privacy. The property is a tropical treasure and everyone on staff are very kind and inviting. The small private deck overlooking the Canal was a nice surprise and we enjoyed watching birds with our coffee in the morning and our wine in the evening.

was a great place to stay for a couple in their 50s first time for isla. The initial impresson from the street was not impressive, but.. just fabulous the minute we got in the small complex. the deck on unit 5 that gave a wonderful private lagoon view was awesome. Katy and dave were terrific hosts!! the heated pool was perfect. overall a wonderful say for a great wwek in Isla!!

Beautiful property and villas. Perfect for individuals or groups. We were part of a group of 10. We stayed in #5. Maids were impeccable. Restaurants are within walking distance or take a cheap taxi ride downtown to other wonderful restaurants. Katy is a wealth of knowledge on the island. We rented a golf cart for 2 days to explore the island, which Katy lined up for us as well. We can't wait to go back!

Beautiful, peaceful and perfectly situated

This was the second time we stayed here- in the exact same villa. The villa itself is well-appointed and has a beautiful view of the lagoon on the patio. Nature is abundant and we enjoyed taking in the sunsets from our room. Overall, the setting is a peaceful and perfectly maintained retreat. The host (Katy)is amazing and very attentive to everything. This year, avoiding the crowds downtown during the holiday season, we spent many warm days relaxing by the pool reading and talking with the other guests. Our family joined us this year and spent a relaxing time in two other adjoining villas on the property. It was a perfect family vacation.Note that the retreat is located in a quiet part of the island. In the mornings we would buy fresh tacos, eggs and fresh squeezed juice down the street and cook our own breakfasts. The villa is a short walk to excellent neighborhood restaurants. Its close enough to walk to down town - but its a short golf cart ride as well. This year, Katy arranged our cart ahead of time for us! In summary: Absolutely perfect for a long and relaxing getaway! We hope to return to the exact same villa next year!

Lovely, quiet and perfectly located.

Isla Retreats is exactly as advertised - quiet, modern, and very comfortable. It was nice to be away from the bustle of downtown while still only a 50 peso taxi ride away. This is a great location from which to enjoy all that the island has to offer. There are restaurants, grocery stores and bars within walking distance but the secure premises of Isla Retreats offers serenity. The lovely pool was great to come back to after a day touring the island or at the beach. We stayed in Villa 5 and it was perfect for a couple - the bed was very comfortable, the kitchen was fully outfitted and the rooftop patio was a wonderful place to watch the sun set. Katy was very accommodating and the staff were lovely. Highly recommend!

Beautiful, peaceful, safe, home away from home!

We had a great time at Isla Retreats, it’s safe, clean and beautiful. From the moment we arrived Katy made us feel at home! I wold definitely reccomend this place to anyone coming to the island. Each Villa has a beautiful outdoor space for relaxing, very private and comfortable.

Beautiful property! Perfect location!! Best vacation ever!!

We booked Isla Retreats, and villa #5 based on the amenities for the cost or "bang for the buck" as we like to say, and it absolutely did NOT disappoint!! This is place is AMAZING! From the moment we walked in, we knew we had made the right decision. Everything was pristine, from the beautiful pool and palapa area, to the sculptures and landscaping. It truly was, a little slice of heaven. What we didn't know when we arrived, was how great of a host Katy was!! She would always stop whatever she was doing, and make sure even the smallest of our needs were met! She has also lived on Isla for many years, and always had the best recommendations for meals, activities, etc... In summary, with over 20 trips to the Cancun area, we've decided this one was our favorite! We will be back soon, and won't look anywhere else but Isla Retreats!!

Isla Retreats is owned and operated by father and daughter team, Dave and Katy Hochmayr. We bought the property in 2006, but did not begin construction until February of 2016. We began coming to Isla Mujeres in 1989 and it soon became our second home. We love the unique family and cultural ambiance on the island that creates a very comfortable and relaxing place to live and vacation.

We purchased the property where Isla Retreats is located as an empty lot in 2006 and began building in February of 2016. We are very excited to have finally finished the project in May of 2017. The design and vision of Isla Retreats came from Dave - he creatively thought of the most unique details that make this property so exceptional.
