Eat
With so much choice you will be spoilt for choice: why not head over to the Gumstool Inn, a country pub that guarantees a warm welcome and a superb feast. From scrumptious beer-battered cod to traditional Sunday roasts.
The Potting Shed is a beautifully charming pub in the village of Crudwell just a few miles from the castle, Its menu showcases the best local produce and with roaring log fires in the winter and a spacious beer garden in the summer, you can easily lose a few wonderful hours here.
Heading over to Cirencester we recommend The Bell, Sapperton This multi-award-winning pub sits between Cirencester and Stroud and is the perfect place for discerning foodies, and wine lovers (there's an actual "wine wall" in the bar!), real ale enthusiasts to visit. You can even rock up on your horse if you like as there is some dedicated parking for your steed.
The Royal Oak, Tetbury - With its upcycled furnishings, vintage jukebox and Art Deco piano, The Royal Oak is a lively and charming dog-friendly pub in this historic Cotswolds town. The food is honest and hearty with a dedicated vegan menu.
Getting Around:
A short drive, just 90 minutes from London, it's the perfect country retreat. Direct trains run frequently from Paddington to Kemble (just 11 miles from the Castle with frequent taxis)
I would recommend using a car to get around but there is public transport, with buses running to Cirencester and surrounding Cotswold villages.
