Host & Stay | The Old Bakehouse
Summary:
This former bakehouse enjoys a coastal location just a short walk from Whitby’s Blue Flag Beach. The perfect retreat for a family to relax and unwind, you’ll find fantastic views of Whitby Harbour, the 199 Steps and Whitby Abbey when staying at the Grade II listed Old Bakehouse. Located on the quiet Cliff Street in the centre of town, there are an abundance of bars, pubs, shops and restaurants nearby.
The Space:
An attractive, Grade II listed former bakehouse tucked away in the heart of the historic port of Whitby, The Old Bakehouse offers a homely and comfortable place to stay and is set over three floors.
The open plan living area on the ground floor is the ideal place to unwind with your loved ones. Furnished to perfectly suit this characterful property, you'll find a leather sofa, two armchairs and a wooden dining table. In the colder months, fire up the gas wood burner and turn on the TV for a cosy night in.
Also on the ground floor is a well-equipped kitchen. Presented as a galley style kitchen, you can make the most of an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine.
On the first floor, there is a double bedroom with an amazing view of Whitby Abbey and the harbour. With further single and twin bedrooms on the second floor, there is excellent flexibility to suit all needs when staying at The Old Bakehouse.
The bathroom can be found on the first floor. With a shower over the bath, WC and wash basin, this space is well equipped, and you’ll have the choice of whether you wish to enjoy a refreshing shower or a relaxing soak.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to The Old Bakehouse are accessed via a key safe box, and full details will be provided before check-in.
Pay and display parking is available nearby.
The Neighborhood:
The coastal town of Whitby has something special about it and has long been popular with visitors to Yorkshire’s Coast, owing to its delightful harbour which is surrounded by pretty houses, restaurants and fun things to do. All this splendour is overlooked by the historic Whitby Abbey.
The town is famous for its association with Bram Stoker‘s Dracula, English explorer Captain James Cook and the mysterious Whitby Jet. Visitors can stroll along the harbour walls, from where seals, dolphins and porpoises can be seen as little fishing boats chug by. The town’s maritime heritage is commemorated by statues of Captain Cook and William Scoresby, as well as the whalebone arch that sits at the top of the West Cliff.
Other significant features include the swing bridge, which crosses the River Esk and the harbour, which is sheltered by the grade II listed East and West piers.
West of town is West Cliff Beach, lined with colourful beach huts.
Getting Around:
Whitby rail station is located along Bagdale and towards Victoria Square. There are routes to Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Sunderland, Newcastle, Hexham and Carlisle via the scenic Esk Valley Line.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is also accessible from Whitby rail station. Go back in time and enjoy dramatic moorland all the way to the market town of Pickering.
Whitby has great bus routes to surrounding areas including villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast. You’ll find regular routes to Scarborough and Middlesbrough, along with occasional direct services to Pickering, Malton, York and Leeds.
The nearest airport is Teesside International, 45 miles away from Whitby.
