The village is characterised by its charming stone cottages, historic buildings, and welcoming community. There are many local highlights to the area including Calver Weir, an impressive stone weir on the River Derwent, offering scenic views and opportunities for leisurely walks and picnics with family and friends. Getting Around:
Getting around Calver and the Hope Valley area in the Peak District can be done fairly easily using a combination of buses, trains, and walking. However, public transport in this region is less frequent compared to urban areas, so it’s important to plan ahead.
Calver itself does not have its own train station. The nearest train stations are in Grindleford (about 2 miles away) or Hathersage (about 4 miles away). Located on the Hope Valley Line, Grindleford Station connects you to Sheffield (to the east) and Manchester (to the west). It's also a great starting point for hiking and exploring the Peak District. The Hope Valley Line is relatively frequent, with trains running every 30 minutes during peak times, but less frequently at weekends or evenings. The stations are well-situated for accessing local walking routes or for commuting to nearby cities.
There are several local bus routes serving the Hope Valley and Calver area, providing connections to nearby villages, towns, and cities. The 272 bus route runs daily, although runs less frequently on evenings and weekends. It connects Calver to Sheffield via Hathersage, Bamford, and Grindleford.
The 218 or 173 buses run between Calver, Baslow, and Bakewell, with a stop at Chatsworth House. These services operate regularly during weekdays, but be aware that evening services can be limited.
