Foresters Cottage Dalry
A 300 year old cottage, nestled in private woodlands and gardens, Foresters cottage forms part of the 250 acre Blair Estate, which is home to a small castle and country walks. The cottage offers peace and tranquillity, yet is perfectly placed on the national cycle route, is within walking distance to the local village and train station, and is a 30 minute drive to both Glasgow and Prestwick airports.
Driving Directions
When you get to Glasgow follow signs for Greenock/Glasgow Airport M8. Stay on M8 until you get to junction 28A signposted Irvine A737. This is immediately after Glasgow Airport turn off.
If you are coming direct from airport follow signs for Greenock until you see signs for A737 Irvine.
Take A737 Irvine through 3 roundabouts.
You will get to the 4th roundabout on the outskirts of Dalry. Turn left at the roundabout signposted Stewarton B707. Stay on that road for 1.1 miles (don’t take the left turn towards Stewarton). You will pass a right turn and the entrance to our house is a wee gap in the wall about 100 yards further on the right where the word SLOW is painted on the road. It is narrow and it's a steep descent, keep to the right as you come in the gate as you don't want to get stuck in the mud! And take it slowly as it is a steep drive. Loads of parking once you are here.
If you are coming from the other side stay on the A737 until you come to the roundabout mentioned above where you will turn right signposted Stewarton B707. Follow directions above from the roundabout.
Sat Nav instructions: postcode is KA24 4EW which will probably take you to Bathbank Cottage. If you were coming out of the drive for Bathbank Cottage you would turn right, go around the bend and our entrance is on the left.
This property has a river running through the extensive gardens, please be careful at the waters edge and do not allow children to play near the river bank.
There is an electric charging point next to the garage.
Please turn the heating down when vacating, the thermostat is on the dining room wall.
The keysafe is to the left of the main entrance door. Please use the lower of one and make sure you return the key when you leave.
You will enter via the porch where the washer dryer is located. The tall cupboard on the right contains the ironing board & iron as well as the hoover, mop, brushes etc. The lower cupboard on the left is where you will find the first aid kit.
As you come into the house the controller for the heating and hot water is on the wall on your left. To boost the heating for an hour, press the big advance button on the left and for hot water it’s the one on the right. If you leave the hot water set to auto you should have plenty of hot water for normal use but you will need to boost it if you have a deep bath. The thermostat for the heating is in the dining room. Please turn this down to 15 degrees when you leave.
The bathroom is on the right as you come through from the porch. To turn on the overhead shower turn the knob on the left towards the wall. To change to the handheld shower turn it towards you. The knob on the right controls the temperature. It may take a minute or two for the hot water to come through especially first thing in the morning. Please don’t put anything other than toilet paper and organic waste down the toilet as we have a septic tank.
The worktops in our kitchen are real wood so please be careful with them. Don’t put anything hot directly on the worktop and be careful with things that are wet. Please use the coasters for mugs and glasses and a pot stand or wooden board for any pots or pans. We have a double oven so the top one is the grill and secondary oven and the bottom one the main fan oven. The hob is an induction one. Hopefully you will be able to work out all the controls but if you have any problems the manuals for the oven and hob are in the cupboard above the oven. Help yourself to any of the items in the jars. If you finish anything we would ask you to replace it if you can.
The one thing that might catch you out is the hidden cutlery drawer which is underneath the hob inside the drawer that contains the plates and bowls.
Glasses are in the sideboard in the dining room. Normal glasses are on the left and wine glasses on the right. There are a few handy things in the sideboard drawers such as pens, tape and a wee toolkit.
The TV is a smart tv connected to the wifi. It has the usual apps such as BBC Iplayer, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Please sign into your own account to use these. We don’t have a TV signal due to our location and all the trees surrounding the property.
You can also use the wood burning stove. The stove is pretty simple. The right-hand dial (both dials located below the glass door) should be set at an almost closed (anti clockwise) to keep a regular heat and the left hand on about half way. Both should be turned up full go get the fire going (clockwise). The logs on the right of the woodshed are dry & ready to use.
There is a printer and scanner in the wee office at the end of the hall. It is connected to the wifi and will come up as Epson 3750. There is lots of spare paper and envelopes in the office. Please help yourself if you need them. There is also a spare router in the office which has a data sim. If you have any problems with the Sky wifi you can use this as a back-up. Just plug it in and give it a few minutes to connect. Back-up wifi TP Link (5G) password 71615790
We have 4 different bins so please put only the correct items in each bin. The blue bin is for paper & cardboard only. The purple one is for glass, tins, plastics, cartons etc. The brown bins are for organic waste. This means all garden and food waste (but not soil). Garden weeds and plants can go directly into the bin, but food waste should be inside green compostable bags (under the sink) which fit into a small bunker bin (Scots word for kitchen unit top bin) for easy use. Apart from the compostable food waste bags no bags in any of these bins please. These should go in the grey bin along with all non-recyclable waste. If you want to recycle your soft plastics like plastic bags then there is a recycling point in the Co-op in Dalry.
If you are staying for a while please put the bins out to the left of the gate at the roadside on a Monday. The blue, purple and grey bins are collected on a Tuesday on a rotating weekly schedule. There is a calendar on the noticeboard in the kitchen. The brown bins are collected every second week usually on a Tuesday but sometimes on a Wednesday.
