Overall, I rate Roberts House five stars because the process felt incredibly personal—while it might not be five stars for everyone, it truly felt like home for a week. The VRBO owner chat was prompt and accurate, and the on-site contact went above and beyond to bridge the gap between island and mainland, which gave me the confidence to try this “Elevated Rustic” island adventure.We wanted a secluded beachfront house, and we got it. The sunsets here are unparalleled—I’ve seen no match on this earth—and the sense of safety is reassuring (I even feel safer here than at Publix on 5 sushi Wednesdays). At night, the sound of the waves is like a soothing lullaby, and it’s fun to wave at the cruise ships as they pass by.The house offers everything needed for a comfortable stay: air-conditioned bedrooms, fans in the living room, beach towels, a few beach chairs, snorkeling gear, and even a paddle board (life vest required!). We visited in March, so expect some mosquitoes, small lizards, flies, and ants. Bring insect repellent and some fly/mosquito spray if you’re bothered by these little visitors.Food on the island is expensive, so pack enough supplies and then visit the local grocery store—not just to save money, but to enjoy cooking with fresh ingredients. You can dine indoors or outdoors, and four excellent restaurants are within walking distance.Exploring the island is easy on foot, and taxi rides are a flat 10 per person one way.
