Sadly, we are on our way home from beautiful glacier national park, and we really enjoyed our stay at this cabin in Essex, MT.
Cabin was extremely clean and well kept, owner had a very easy process for getting a key to get into the cabin, and we found it to be plenty big for our group of 6(4 adults, 1 teenager, and a 5 year old).
We stopped for groceries in Browning, which ended up being a bit of a mistake. We found that the cabin was WELL stocked with essentials. Spices, TP, paper towels, foil, ziplocks, towels, etc. There was even some unused jugs of bottled water and other food(although I'm guessing that some of that may have just been left from previous guests). It really seemed like a well kept home that we just happened to crash at for the week.
Beds were pretty comfortable, plenty of pillows and clean sheets, lots of extra blankets. Bathroom was great, large soaking bathtub and a nice shower head with great water pressure.
Living area was cozy, lots of movies and a nice TV. Wifi worked pretty well, but slowed down if more than 2 people were trying to watch YouTube or something. To be expected given the relative remote location though, we found the working wifi to be a bonus.
The back deck was really nice, even better than advertised. The grill worked great and was exceptionally clean, like, how was it so clean? If the owner has some tips I can use for my grill that'd be great, because I've never been able to keep my gas grill that clean.
We weren't able to use the firepit because of fire restrictions, but it looked very nice and big.
Kitchen was well stocked with utensils, dishes, cookware, we didn't have any trouble cooking for 6. And the water out of the tap was really good.
The only drawback was the road and train noise. The house sits close to highway 2 and the train tracks, but I knew that going in after looking at a map. Its hard to avoid that in this area though, if you look around most houses / lodges that are outside of the park are right on the highway and near the tracks, because there's just nowhere else for them to be!
Overall we really enjoyed this cabin and would recommend staying here, especially if you have trouble finding lodging in the park(like most people do).
It was about a 30 minute drive to west glacier and about 45 minutes to east glacier.
Closest gas station was in west glacier, but there is a neighbor a few hundred yards east on highway 2 that has an ice machine at the end of his driveway!
