Real Hawaii

If we could give this studio 7 stars, we would! Anything it lacked in conveniences, Danny made up for in hospitality. From the time we landed he was in touch with directions, suggestions, and assistance. He was the perfect amount of helpful and respectful of our time and space. Every place he recommended seeing was amazing and every restaurant he suggested absolutely delicious.The studio itself was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location was amazing. We were a short walk from a beautiful beach and loved being on the side of the island that kept us away from crowds and tourism. We felt like we got to see and enjoy “real Hawaii”. We would choose to stay here again and again. Thank you, Danny!

Great little spot

Dani was very nice and knowledgeable about local spots. We were looking for a place away from heavy tourist areas and this was perfect. Beautiful beaches and a state park nearby.

Aloha Spirit

A great location far from the tourist hordes, and a fabulous host made this feel like home. We loved the local feel and the family friendly beach (walking distance) which was mostly uncrowded in early April. Danny goes out of his way to be accommodating and helpful and we'll definitely stay here again when we make it back to Oahu.

great spot near beaches!

Had a wonderful stay here, great location near beaches with great snorkeling and swimming. Easy check-in and convenient setup of the room. We enjoyed wine in the evening on the deck and stored a few food items in the fridge outside the door. Would stay there again!

We had a ball staying at Danny’s place! He is awesome and we loved his neighbors and friends as well. It’s not a fancy place but has everything you need. The beaches are beautiful and the hospitality was great! Keep the faith our forever surfing brother😜😜😜

Nice, quiet spot among the local population

I had a very nice, quiet time. Danny was there to meet me even though I came in a bit late and was there to see me off early in the morning. A very pleasant stay with everything I needed. Nice for an older guy to find railings and a non-slip shower floor.

A good place to rest

This is a small, clean, easy accessible studio but really is just set up to be a place to shower & rest. There is no TV so if you're like me & want to watch something to wind down at the end of the day you'll have to use your own phone, iPad, laptop, etc. The host is very kind & friendly & lets you say hi to the dogs if you'd like (which who doesn't love dogs?!). The host let us borrow beach gear & offered surf lessons! My boyfriend took the lessons while I relaxed on the beach & we both enjoyed ourselves a lot! The location is rural, definitely not a tourist part of the island which was a nice change of pace during our stay on Oahu. Overall, it was exactly what we needed just to rest & I would recommend this place to anyone who was looking for something simple.

Mahalo, Makaha!

Danny’s place is clean, comfortable and chill. He is a good host who is communicative and really wants you to enjoy your visit. This attached unit has what you need for basic meal prep, sleeping and washing up. We loved the outdoor shower and evenings on the private deck after our days of exploring. Nice beach is a short walk and the neighborhood is safe. We wish we had extra time to experience more of the local culture. Happy New Year, Everyone.

Friendly host, guest room and bathroom separate to hosts house. Everything you need.

Daniel was a really kind host with a lovely home, not far from some fantastic beaches and lovely walks. He and his gorgeous dog, Reef, made us really welcome and we also had a great surfing lesson with him. Makaha feels more Hawaiian and a lot less touristy we’re so glad we went to the West and spent a couple of days here. We were a British mum and teenage daughter travelling together and having read mixed reviews on the area weren’t sure what to expect but Daniel was great and we felt really comfortable staying in his home. Thank you Daniel and Reef for a fantastic Hawaiian experience.

Felt Right at Home

We've used VRBO numerous times and this one ranks at the top. Wonderful experience with a great host. Danny treated us like family and his easy going laid back attitude even gave us the confidence to try surfing for the first time. Never thought we'd attempt it at our age but so happy and excited we gave it a shot. Great host and surf instructor. Would definitely stay with him again. Cheap stay with AC and bathroom

On residential property of owner, off of his garage area. Nice neighborhood, but general mahaka area has a lot of homeless people and it’s pretty run down. Owner is very social, and I’m not used to having social contact with Vrbo owners, or traveling alone, so that was kind of anxiety provoking. Otherwise I spent a vast amount of time with family on the island and came in late to the room/with good communication with the owner.

8 days in paradise

We stayed here for 8 days ! My husband has back issues and he was worried about the bed . But it was great ! It has AC , a Keurig, a ceiling fan and a nice patio for your use . You park in the garage which is a nice perk . Danny was great ! Every restaurant he suggested was excellent ! We had a surf lesson with Danny and we were up on the board in no time. It is right down the road from a whale watching spot , surfing & snorkeling area . It really felt like paradise ! We came home to 10” of snow and we miss it already ! Thank you Danny !

Great studio, location and host!

We are a couple who stayed at Danny's place for 6 nights and we would stay there again! We much appreciated the tranquility, safety, and beautiful uncrowded beaches of the neighborhood. The air-conditioned studio gives access to an outdoor terrace where we enjoyed sunny breakfasts and stargazing with Reef and Midnight, the owner's very friendly pets. We also really appreciated the closed garage space for our car rental. Most of all, Danny was very welcoming and responsive: he gave us access to beach gear (chairs, towels) and provided many local tips for restaurants (Coquito's, The Beach House by 604) and island activities. On top of all this, he is an awesome surf instructor and in no time we were up on the boards enjoying the waves in Pokai Bay! The souvenir video, filmed by a drone, was an amazing highlight of our trip. Thank you Danny for being such a great host!

Feel Like A Local

The listing didn't show the exterior of the property. The unit is actually behind Daniels garage. It is a nice size room with a full bath and a deck in the back. At first we were surprised that there was no AC but realized that most private homes in Hawaii really do not have A/C. Night time came and the night got chilly so with the fan on, we had a good night sleep. It was Daniel's warm hospitality with his dog Reef that made all the difference. It was nice to stay with the people who actually live in the island. Definitely a surfers paradise.

Nice studio in quiet neighborhood with GREAT host!

Danny is an amazing host - great communication and recommendations of things to do in the area since he is local. He even saw us off at 5:00am! The bed is comfy, a/c works, clean and the place is a good place to sleep. If you are looking for a place to hang out at the property keep in mind it’s a studio. Great beaches in the area - a swimming beach in walking distance (probably about 3 blocks?). There are some just a short drive that are not busy. The whole area is much quieter than Honolulu/Waikiki. Beach house restaurant great food and hangout on patio by ocean. The counter/kitchenette is in the room. The fridge and a counter type area with stools you could eat on is in the garage. We didn’t use the small patio in the back as we hung out at the beach house restaurant patio until we were ready to hit the hay. Sufficient Quiet room in a quiet neighborhood. Only saw 2 bugs (one of which was dead) during our 3 night stay which I’d say is common for ground floor in the tropics.

Needs a thorough clean, pests present

Most important: From the beginning my partner was killing roaches and I feel terrible because I was dismissive, saying it's like FL, there are roaches that come and go. I didn't look until later and they were German roaches. German roaches are the only kind I would not want to bring home, they are infestation pests unlike other roaches. The last two nights we also saw a mouse. We kept our food closed and on the counter. The mouse seems to be living in the dresser structure. Danny was notified and provided a mouse trap. Danny and his girlfriend were very nice but were nonchalant about the things we noticed, roaches, mouse, things not drying in the bathroom. Communication: Danny texted me the day of check in. He is very communicative and friendly. Location: Quiet, beautiful rocky shore with tide pools behind the neighborhood, walking distance to sandy beach. We liked being away from the major tourist areas. There are many homeless camps nearby. Plan accordingly when exploring the island. Amenities: This room potentially has a ton of amenities! But you will probably need to ask about them. We requested shampoo/conditioner. Washer/dryer is located in Danny's home. Entrance to the room is inside his garage. The room: This room needs updated photos. My partner is very tidy and noted the grout color, bathroom smelled musty, lizard poop on the blinds. He sanitized everything prior to us using it. Danny/his gf were made aware of all of the above during our stay.
