This was our first trip to Maui. After an 8 hour long plane ride and another hour of waiting for our rental car and starving the whole time, we had a fabulous lunch at Kimo's and then drove to our "home" for 10 days. When we walked in, we were thrilled! The condo looked just as pictured! The view is absolutely amazing! We had picked up some supplies at Costco- I had read this was a great place to stop. I advise against it. We came out with limited items because there were only 2 of us and the quantities were too large. We did purchase some beverages, some fruit, some whole bean coffee, and 2 mens authentic Hawaiian shirts. We also came out grouchy and totally stressed because it was so crazy in there! It was too much after the trip!
We quickly discovered the following morning that we were missing a coffee grinder. Luckily, we were supplied basic items which also included a starter bag of ground coffee. We ran to the grocery store across the street and were happy to discover as someone else had said in their review that they had everything we needed and prices were reasonable. They also carry a full liquor selection at reasonable prices. The only thing we couldn't find, to our disappointment, was a coffee grinder. My husband suggested emailing Mr. Coffey, the condo owner, because we were also unable to locate the cooler listed under the amenities. Mr. Coffey promptly replied, and that same day, someone had delivered the two missing items to our unit.
I will agree with the most recent negative review that the bathroom is rather dark. This is only at night though due to the lighting. During the day, the window let in enough light. The dishwasher worked fine, the problem was missing rollers on the bottom rack. Lift it up and close the door. Minimal irritations compared to other places we have stayed. The bed "squeaked" when we sat at the foot of it to get into our luggage. Not while sleeping. It was very comfortable. Most, importantly, the unit was very clean. We would rent again.
One activity we strongly advise doing is visiting Haleakula for the sunrise. We had spoken to a transplanted resident who advised us to leave the condo early and arrive while it was dark out so that we could experience the transition from darkness to light completely. We left the condo at 2:30 am and it took us 2 hours to get to the summit. It was worth every minute of lost sleep! All I can say is breathtaking!
